Nobody understands the bond between a girl and the mediocre book she read when she was 13 years old.

NO PLACE LEFT TO HIDE - MEGAN LALLY.
Thank you to netgalley and publisher for the arc read!
GENRES: young adult, mystery, thriller TW: death, gaslighting, violence, blood, drinking IF YOU LIKED: a good girls guide to murder, one of us is lying.
3.5 STARS
Brooke Goodwin - perfectly rich, perfectly pretty, perfectly perfect. Only miss golden girl is hiding one very big secret and someone wants the truth out, no matter the cost.
WHAT I LIKED:
The writing flowed and wasn't clunky. It wasn't overly flowery or purple, which made it easier to see the plot play out in my head. It also made me a fan of Megan Lally and will be keeping an eye out for her future work.
It was incredibly fast paced. I could NOT stop reading, especially once it got into it. The chapters weren't crazy long so nothing felt like it dragged. Everything had it's purpose and moved the plot forward.
WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE:
There was no….nothing likeable about the characters. some of the side characters felt a little flat and one dimensional. I think maybe if the book had been longer and not focused on one day/night then we might have had a chance to focus more on the characters themselves. There wasn't much to Brooke other than having crappy parents, goal focused and an overachiever, super snobby. The snobby parts didn't bother me, though! I don't need my female characters to be 100% perfect so if she had been overly nice it would have killed the vibe. My biggest complaint is the dead ex frenemy in this. There was nothing more to her than being the mean girl whose life turned to crap. And we're supposed to feel upset about her being dead? Another case of 'this needed to be fleshed out'.
So many unanswered questions. The ending just…felt like it happened. To be fair, I am still thinking about it, so Megan got me there lmao
CONCLUSION:
Despite what I didn't like, I DID enjoy this. I'll probably try to read it again to see if there are things I missed to see if the ending makes more sense. If you like a fast paced mystery/thriller, this is worth a read!
