I do think I need some new vocabulary for whatever the fuck is happening here because it's not queerbaiting it just *is* meant to be read as queer but like. we know how this movie ends. I really do doubt we're getting canon Gelphie (not just in the sense of them being endgame - I don't even think there will be a confession or a kiss or what have you). but the trailer IS Gelphie like Fiyero who?? he's an #Ally but it's all about Glinda and Elphie's relationship and that relationship is portrayed extremely queerly so we are walking a weird thin line here

Another Simple Favor Spoilers & Discourse Below the Cut

idk im seeing split opinions on another simple favor. i personally dont think we could have asked for a better sequel. it was DELICIOUS. but some of the negative opinions ive seen are based around the idea that emily and Stephanie ended as platonic friends, nothing more… and i have to firmly disagree with that.

i think that this movie made it incredibly clear what Emily and Stephanie are to each other.

i think the entirety of this movie was the slow reveal that emily TRULY IS attracted to and LOVES Stephanie and that its not just a front for manipulation. its also the slow reveal of Stephanie REALIZING that, and confidently embracing it. i ALSO ALSO think its the slow reveal that the list of people emily cares about is longer than Sean says it is. Dante IS on that list, just not how we expected. Stephanie is too. but with little hearts around her name. Smooch might also be on that list. but not Sean. he never was. because Emily. isnt. attracted. to men. (or at least thats how i interperate it. at least withwhat theyve shown us. the way emily gags at the mention of Sean and the fact that the only other lover we know of hers is a woman? the way the other male love interest isnt one at all, and shes just acting as a beard? which suggests that she does not value physical affection and will use THAT as a manipulation tool? but who is she emotionally most open to?? the thing she is TERRIFIED OF?! THATS right. stephanie.)

just because they ended apart from each other does not mean that they ended platonically, at least not to me. shes fucking raising Emily’s kid. and the only reason they cant be together is because Emily faked her own death. to me, it would not make sense for them to start scissoring and run away together immediately.

if they did, what tension would they have to build the third movie (that they are clearly trying to set up) on?

TL;DR they are absolutely in lesbians with each other and the movie makes absolutely zero claims to dispute that.

if you asked me about another simple favor, i'd say I liked it

but if you asked me on a deeper level I think there is something that both stephanie and emily absolutely and deeply revere about the life the other leads---there is something in emily that loves how sure stephanie is about the simplicity and straightforwardness of being a small-town, stay-at-home, crime solving mom; there's something in Stephanie that remains enthralled (not "obsessed" by her own words) with emily's glamor and shine.

that's just the surface and still, that manifests in the most unhinged, unresolved sexual tension to ever grace our screens
