Being aroace is so funny because sometimes I'll go to sleep thinking to myself "do I lack something fundamental to the full human experience" and then I wake up the next day and realize it is not that serious

Four of Pollinators. Art by Kevin Jay Stanton, from BOTANICA: Full Bloom.
Common Fig & Fig Wasp Upright: Difficult situations may require creative solutions. Reversed: Consider if a sacrifice is worthwhile, as it may not be necessary in the first place. What barrier is ahead of you? Is there a different way to approach overcoming it?

idk it really bothers me when people make fun of women and try to justify it by saying White Women or Straight Women or Cis Women or whatever because 85% of the time theyre not criticizing white supremacy or heterosexuality or anything to do with harmful gender stereotypes, they're just making fun of women who Happen to belong to a specific group & are trying to justify their misogyny (intentionally or not) by slapping CISHET onto it

the way fandoms are desperate to make all aroace characters romance and sex favorable but then dont do anything remotely similar to any other identity is astounding. hmm i wonder why
PLEASE dont derail this about shipping characters of other identities please let this one post be about an aroace struggle

For me, it feels nice to get to the end of a story when I get to my destination. These podcasts are all short/have short seasons, each season is a contained story, I hope something will interest you :)
Hey there, Mr. Moon @heytheremrmoon - I just listened to this over the last 2 days, great for traveling :) it's a story about multiple people traveling through space in tiny pods, after they basically evacuated from Earth in search of a liveable planet. The pods are tiny, each contains 1 or 2 people, and they've been traveling for about a year. Each person has to deal with the new reality, what's going to happen when they land, and what they left behind. Some of them deal with it by creating art, some by telling stories, some by playing games. Very interesting, asks a lot of good questions, has great characters (and I really enjoyed how their stories overlap). There is 1 season for now, more to come - it is already telling a very satisfying story, 10/10.
Red Valley @redvalleypod - short seasons, very good chance you'll finish more than one on the plane. Sci-fi about cryogenic research, evil corporations and 2 guys who maybe stepped into something they shouldn't have. There is also a turtle. It is also, importantly, so much fun! It's surprising, sometimes emotional, and very funny more often than you'd expect. Each season or mini-season tells a different story - about secondary characters, or 50 years into the future. All of them are genuinely a treat, it's a great show.
Dark Ages - would you like to visit Rivercliffe Museum of Mostly Natural Histories? Don't worry, no one else wants to either. A workplace comedy in a fantasy world, including demons, some of whom are very good at contracts. Funny and short, just one season.
Academicasuarus Podcast - trials and tribulations of academia, and journal publishing in particular. There are some very strange submissions to the journal and general strange happenings. I listened to it 2 years ago and remember it mostly as a comedy, but I see it's tagged as drama so I might be misremembering - either way, it definitely was a fun listen.
Fawx & Stallion @224bbaker is a story of amateur detectives who'd like to be as great as their neighbor Sherlock Holmes. Alas, they are not. Their chance comes at last when Holmes and Watson leave town for a while - now they get a client! There is only this small mater of figuring out what they should actually do next... There are 2 seasons so far, enough entertainment for a long flight. This show has: very funny dialogue, great acting, very satisfying resolutions to the mysteries, great relationships between characters. 10/10, second season finished few weeks ago, I need to relisten from the start.
Last but not least, Wooden Overcoats @woodenovercoats is a very British comedy about twins and their funeral home, and the other, fancier funeral home that opens next door. It takes place on a tiny fictional island on the English Channel and it's narrated by a mouse. Makes you laugh out loud, might make you cry as well, possibly my favorite podcast ever.
What podcast/audio book should I listen to on the plane? Give me your suggestions!

I think being autistic has made me realize how extremely hostile the environments we have designed are. And I don't mean "this environment is uniquely hostile to me because I am autistic" I mean that even normies are just existing in brutal, stagnant spaces, they have just internalized them as normal. We could have it all, we could live in such a beautiful and fascinating world, designed by humans and for humans who actually enjoy life and it's complexity and wonder. but even now it's like, seen as kinda hippy-dippy bullshit to have "excessive" indoor plants in a workspace or something

Ten days left to apply or audition for my "touring rock band that solves monster-related problems" musical audio drama, and friends, if you're holding back because you don't think you have a chance, let me tell you:
so far, the most-applied-to crew job only has seven applicants
actually, the most-auditioned-for acting role also has only seven applicants right now
nobody has applied yet to be music director
nobody has auditioned yet for Beth or Flynn
Like, am I personally feeling extremely nervous about getting enough people for this project? Absolutely! Would I continue to utterly treasure any signal boosting, particularly when it comes to trying to find an African American actor/singer to play Beth? Of course! But your odds personally for getting in are at this point quite good. Take the leap!
Job listings are here.
Audition info is here. One thing I forgot to say is that Circe, Sadie, Charlie, and Flynn don't need to have American accents.
Good luck/break a leg!
-Jess

hate when people think the only archetype possible for a male sidekick to a female protagonist is a soft boi and/or himbo. like the implication there is that the only reason a man would ever defer to a woman’s authority is if he was a bumbling idiot. love male supporting characters who are smart and strong and confident and can step up when necessary but still kind and humble enough to let someone else take the lead most of the time

"tbh we might have clowned on [aros & aces] a lil too harshly" bigotry. the term you're looking for is bigotry. denying communities their vocabulary and ability to safely exist because you think you're the personal arbiter of which identities are "valid" is bigotry. minimizing and infantilizing and harassing entire groups of people based on their orientation is bigotry. aphobia isn't some forgettable phase of being cringe as a teenager, it's bigotry that inflicted long term damage to these communities.
