summary after a hex gone bad the winchester boys are left with a very emotional—very naked companion.

the rumble of baby’s engine filled the night, steady and familiar, the perfect soundtrack to victory. the witch was dead, their hex bags tossed into the trunk with the rest of the junk, and sam was already flipping through his laptop in the passenger seat, half-looking for their next case. dean had one hand on the wheel, the other fiddling with the radio, flipping between static and old rock. just another night on the road.

then, it happened.

a plume of thick, purplish smoke erupted from the backseat, billowing out of the worn leather duffle bag they’d tossed back there hours ago.

“the hell—?” dean’s hand snapped back to the wheel, slamming the brakes. baby lurched forward.

that was when you hit the back of the front seat with a hard thud, your face bouncing off the worn leather like a ragdoll. you yelped, sharp and pained, the cry giving way to a trembling, wide-eyed sob as you grabbed your nose, blood already dripping down your lip.

“what the fuck?!” dean had his gun out before the car fully stopped, twisting around in the driver’s seat, muzzle pointed dead at you. “who the hell are you?!”

you barely registered the gun, tears blurring your vision, bloodied hands shaking as you tried to cover yourself, the cold air against your bare skin only making everything worse. a cross necklace — old, familiar, tarnished — hung against your chest, the only thing covering you.

“dean, she’s naked—put the gun down!” sam was already half out of his seat, reaching into the back with both hands in that classic let’s not freak anyone out gesture. “hey, hey, it’s okay — who are you? are you hurt?”

you hiccupped, sobbing too hard to form real words. the world was overwhelming — air too thick, sounds too sharp, every nerve raw and exposed in this new body. the only comfort was the two faces staring back at you, and even they weren’t safe. not yet.

dean didn’t lower the gun. “where the hell did she come from? she just—poof! smokes in like a goddamn genie, in my car.”

“i—i—” you hiccupped again, curling up to shield your chest, tears rolling down your cheeks. “don’t—don’t shoot me—please—”

“then start talking,” dean snapped.

your hands fumbled blindly into the duffle bag beside you, fingers brushing against something small, something you somehow knew. you yanked it out — the hex bag, frayed string still knotted tight around the cloth pouch.

“this,” you choked out, holding it up like a shield. “it—it did something—”

dean’s eyes narrowed, flicking from the bag to you and back again. “hex bag. great.” his voice was all razor edges. “that still doesn’t tell me who you are.”

you opened your mouth, but the words stuck, throat too tight with fear and the overwhelming press of being. you hadn’t always been like this — fragile and soft and cold. you’d been safe once, small and metal, worn smooth from dean’s grip, warm from holy water and whiskey.

sam’s voice softened. “hey, hey — it’s okay. what’s your name?”

you hiccupped, shaking your head so fast it made you dizzy. “i—i don’t know—i was—” you cut yourself off, words tumbling out too fast, panic driving your mouth. “there was a hunt, the nest in tucson — and the wendigo in oregon, and the time you spilled beer all over me in ohio — and the car crash in montana and—”

both brothers froze.

dean’s eyes narrowed. “what?”

you were shaking too hard to stop. “you always leave me in the duffle bag but sometimes you forget and i end up under the seat and i can hear everything — i heard you fight about the siren case in new orleans — i heard you—”

“okay, okay,” sam cut in, voice tight with confusion. “how do you know all that?”

you just kept going, like a dam had cracked, tears running down your face along with the blood. “you lost me once, in michigan, left me in that shitty diner booth — the waitress found me, she smelled like bacon grease and you had to go back for me—”

dean’s gun finally dipped.

“wait,” sam’s gaze flicked down, landing on the necklace around your throat — a familiar, tarnished silver rosary. the one dean had looped around the cap of their holy water flask years ago, just for emergencies. “dean—look.”

dean stared at the rosary, brow furrowing. his hand tightened around the gun before his expression twisted into something halfway between confusion and disbelief. “no. no way.”

sam’s voice was soft, like saying it too loud would make it ridiculous. “that’s… the flask.”

your breath hitched, and for the first time, you stilled — like you hadn’t even realized until now.

dean’s hand dragged down his face. “so you’re telling me… the witch didn’t just hex our gear. she turned my flask into a crying, naked, bleeding chick.”

you hiccupped again, shoulders shaking. “i’m sorry.”

dean’s mouth opened again — probably for some snarky remark — but the words didn’t come. not when you looked so fragile, so wrong sitting there, curled up in the backseat of his car, trembling and helpless and crying because you’d been yanked out of everything you knew and dropped into a world where skin felt too tight and air was too cold.

sam, always the first to react, shrugged off his jacket and handed it to you, his voice low and calm. “here. it’s okay. let’s just… get you warm, alright?”

you clutched the jacket like a lifeline, wrapping it around your body even as you shook, blood still dripping from your nose.

dean exhaled slowly, scrubbing a hand through his hair. “this is officially the weirdest goddamn thing that’s ever happened to us.”

sam gave him a look. “and that’s saying something.”

dean glanced back at you, still wide-eyed and trembling, fingers clenched in sam’s jacket like it was the only thing keeping you together. his jaw ticked again.

“well,” dean muttered, reaching under his seat to grab the emergency first-aid kit, “guess we better figure out how to fix you — and get you some damn clothes.”

you clung to the jacket, fingers curling into the fabric like it was the only thing holding you together. the silence in the car felt heavy, thick with too many questions and not enough answers.

sam shifted in his seat, typing something into his laptop, already diving headfirst into research mode. but even he kept glancing back at you, brows knitted together in quiet concern.

you weren’t sure what came next. if you belonged here. if you belonged anywhere.

all you knew was the car, the hunts, them— a life you’d only ever seen from the bottom of a bag or the warmth of a hand. and now, you were here. exposed. human. whatever that meant.
