2-3pm - Social Health Startup Bootcamp: Investing in Health
Friday, March 13th, 2015 | Hilton Austin Downtown, Salon A - http://schedule.sxsw.com/2015/events/event_IAP42958
Following on the success of the last three Social Health Startup Bootcamps at SXSW, 2015 will mark the 4th consecutive year of the event that provides education, inspiration, and funding advice for (social) health tech startups.
Speakers:
Shwen Gwee (Founder, Social Health Startup Bootcamp & PharmFresh.TV)
Polina Hanin (Academy Director, Startup Health)
Brendan Gallagher (EVP, Experience Strategy & Innovation at Digitas Health LifeBrands)
Topics to be covered include:
Why NOW is the perfect time to think about the healthcare sector as a viable opportunity to launch a tech startup
What are investors interested in seeing with new digital health startups
Where the future of digital health and health tech is going
Exclusive data on investment trends and insights, including: The most active areas of investment in digital health in 2014, Who’s investing, What trends are emerging, and What it all means for digital health startups.
Background: Investments in digital health startups have grown from almost US$1B with 139 deals in 2010 to over almost US$3B with 578 deals in 2013. As more investors begin to view health tech as a viable opportunity for funding and investment – especially as digital health becomes more mainstream through wearables and organic mobile platforms like Apple's Health Kit, Google Fit and Samsung's Digital Health Initiative -- it should come as no surprise that 2014 turned out to be another record-breaking year, with investments totaling over $4.1B, which is more than 2011-2013 combined.

3.30-4.30pm - Barracuda Bowl: A Social Health Startup PitchFest
Friday, March 13th, 2015  |  Hilton Austin Downtown, Salon A - http://schedule.sxsw.com/2015/events/event_IAP42977
Welcome To The Barracuda Bowl!
Following the success of 2013's Founder's Stories, the format of this session has evolved into more of a "shark tank" style pitchfest for social health startups.
Startup Founders:
1EQ - Juan Pablo Segura
Curatio - Lynda Brown
NuPlanit - Alaina Hanlon
Judges:
Lynne Chou - Partner, KPCB (Kleiner, Perkins, Caufield and Byers)
Nina Kjellson - General Partner, InterWest Partners
Casper de Clercq - Partner, Norwest Venture Partners
Ambar Bhattacharyya - VP, Bessemer Venture Partners (BVP)
Format:
The "Barracuda Bowl" puts the spotlight on the founders of three social health startups, who will each have five minutes to pitch their startup to an esteemed panel of "barracudas" – veteran investors, entrepreneurs, and judges.
After providing an overview of their business, the startup founders will be immersed into the Barracuda Bowl where the panel of judges will interrogate them and poke holes in their business plans.
After all three founders have had their fifteen minutes in the bowl, they will together assemble on stage and the audience will have an opportunity to be the barracudas and unleash their questions on them.
At the end of the session, the barracuda panel will decide which founder won the battle of the barracuda bowl and which ones got chewed to pieces.
