It didnât seem at all strange to Sirius to have been gifted the gifts by a mystery person, although perhaps he should have been more cautious. But the gifts came with excitement, and Sirius couldnât ignore just how excited heâd been at the prospect of such a challenge. âThey donât bite, you know. Theyâre just keys.â He took the keys back from Sybill and tucked them into his pocket with a shrug. âBut X marks the spot,â he echoed, bouncing slightly where he stood, excitement bubbling up inside of him. âBubble head charm, yes! Thatâs brilliant!â A bright smile stretched over his face. âI canât believe I hadnât thought of that, yet. Merlin, this is exciting!â
.
They werenât really supposed to go in the black lake, but Sybill was not so much of a blind rule follower as people might assume. She followed them most of hte time solely because it was more convinient, and most things werenât worth the risk. But a treasure map leading to the bottom of the lake, and a strange set of keys? Well, that was a mystery beggining to be solved. âIs this all you got? Keys and a map? No note or anything else?â

âYeah, a hero,â Dahey tried to believe that but heâd found himself here from running his mouth and not backing down. And maybe, just slightly, releasing some of that pent of anger that just lived in him whilst within the walls of the school (especially in his own dorm). While he didnât think he was completely at fault here, he had a hand in it. He held back the comment about how he didnât believe sheâd lie for him, if only to spare himself the speech that would, no doubt, follow.Â
âSuppose itâd be foolish of me to turn the offer down, thank you.â There was something about living with the pain, the consequence that must be too muggle. Or, more likely for Dahey, he was just too stubborn to take care of it with magic. Right now he was wallowing anyway, not looking to fix it but fully suffer in this moment. Looking up, he assessed the situation a little more. âWhy are you helping me?âÂ
.
Lying was easy, actually. Sybill did it all the time. She wasnât so black and white thinking as to be of the opinion that all lies were bad. Most of it she did for her own benifit afterall, and it wasnât hurting anyone to keep certain truths to herself. But perhaps she shouldnât of offered it up so quickly- a good liar probably wasnât a good girlfriend.
She rifled through her bag for the little potion vial- she got headaches a lot on account of being tired and tended to keep them on her- though just as her hand wrapped around it, Dahey asked a question that made her sigh.  âYou know why.â Sybill said, looking back up at him as she held out the potion.

Holding hands with Sybill would never get old, not ever. She had the prettiest girl in the school holding her hand and kissing her, talking about waking up together. Everything felt fuzzy in the best way as though sheâd just had the most wonderful high. PJ never wanted it to end.
âSure. Do you want to hang out in my Common Room? I have some new books that you might like.â
â
.
If people were going to gossip, honestly, perhaps it was better this than anything else they might have to say about Sybill. She wasnât particularly bothered if people found out, it was just the idea fo drawing attention to herself that she didnât like, and she didnât need the extra pressure the public eye caused.
Even so, as they headed back into the castle she didnât let go of Doraâs hand. âYeah.â She nodded, âyou guys have a better fireplace than the ravenclaws anyway. Divination books?â

Great. Just what the situation needed. If it didnât hurt, Dahey would have rolled his eyes. Though he was likely supposed to pretend to be nice, make friends, or whatever. For PJ, at least, but couldnât he fake kindness at dinner? Or in class? Did it have to be sitting here nursing wounds and his ego?Â
âAnd if he didnât?â Dahey countered easily but his shoulders slumped in apology. He didnât mean it, he was just on edge still. Pulling the ice down, he looked up at Sybill with a soft stare and as much kindness as he could muster in the moment. âI donât know, I canât get much sympathy without evidence,â he said with a dry laugh, followed by a wince. âAnd surely feeling like my nose was pushed through to the back of my head is worth the attention Iâll get.âÂ
.
Sybill saw his trepidation when he spotted her. Maybe she shouldâve just kept her nose in her book and kept walking but she didnât want things to be awkward forever between them, even if they never got to be best of friends or anything. She blinked, a little surprised by his harsh response. Dahey wasnât the violent type- or at least, he had never seemed that way to her. Fights tended to make people tense though. âAh, that is true. People love a hero. I could always pretend to have been a witness to your triumph and tell everyone how wonderful you were, that might garner you some attention.â She shrugged, âor I could give you a potion for the headache and leave the bruise as it is.âÂ

âYou shouldnât wish away youâre life Sybilâ Alice pointed out, a worried look on her face for a moment. Part of her understood why one would want to be out of school, but she also didnât want hereslf, or her friends, wishing their life way. Life was short as it was, they didnât need to wish it over before it had really truly believed. âI do agree with that. Itâs why I love coming up here so muchâŚ.â She murmured with a big smile. She loved coming up to the Astronomy tower, and just being on her own for a little. âPshâŚ.. Itâs not only thatâŚ.â She mused, a little grin on her face. âIâm not your friend just because you help with my homeworkâ
.
âNot all of it.â Sybill amended with a shrug, âjust the part where Iâm still at school.â She was bombarded daily with the fluctuations of the future, and she was certain that after some time on her own where she wasnât in an environment where the day to day decisions of those around her changed everything that would calm down some, and she might finally get enough sleep to be a normal person. Though she did love learning.  âMm, itâs nice to feel like everyone is far away for a while.â As far away as they could get anyway, close to the clouds. âNo? Well, thatâs nice to hear.

Sybill and Dahey were not friends. Which was not a bad thing in and of itself, there were plenty of people Sybill was not friends with. But who was Daheyâs friend? Pandora. Now that may complicate things just a little, because the last thing Sybill wanted was some outside influence telling her that Sybill was too strange and sulky to be a good girlfriend. Her last encounter with Dahey had been a little icy, to say the least. The two didnât exactly click, which frankly made it even more weird that someone like Pandora was good friends with him.Â
Regardless of how well they did or did not get along though she wouldnât have denied him- or really anyone- help if she saw them alone in a hallway with an ice patch clutched to their face. Sybill shifted the book she was reading under her arm, brows pulling down in concern. âJust tell me he deserved it. I know a healing charm that might work better than a bag of ice, if you want.âÂ
OPEN STARTER
location: main staircase (bottom step)
It wasnât the first time. It wouldnât even be the last (hardly Daheyâs favorite realization in this moment) but the consequences of his actions had landed a right hook and now his head felt like a marching band was running through it. Some Slytherin pretentiously named after a city heâd likely never been too thought he could tell Dahey what to do. And Dahey wasnât in the mood to listen. Quite the opposite, actually, and he ran his mouth until the other Slytherin shut it.Â
Now Dahey was left to sulk, tail between his leg, and ice on his eye. Heâd be wearing this badge for a few days, his ego would recovery quicker though. Lifting the bag of half ice, half water to reveal a bright pink cheek, Dahey looked up at the approaching footsteps. âYou should see the other guy?âÂ

Every time Sybill kissed her it felt like she had sunshine in her veins, like the world had lit up all over with Sybill in the center of it all. Everything came back to her now, back to this moment and their kiss in the hallway. She couldnât quite believe it was happening still, that she had gotten so incredibly lucky as to have this girl hold her heart.
âIs it corny if itâs true?â She murmured as she pulled away slightly, barely leaving space between them. Kissing Sybill was the only thing she wanted to do with her free time. What else could possibly matter when she had this wonderful dream of a girl in her life? âBecause itâs true.â
â
.
âYes itâs corny if itâs true.â God, was kissing meant to be like this? Was everyone so away with the fairies most of the time that kissing was the thing that kept you stuck to the ground? Maybe that was why everyone liked it so much. It was why Sybill liked it. Or at least, it was one reason. She was feeling a little more awake now.Â
She shivered as a breeze blew past, dropping her hand from Pandoraâs waist to take her hand instead, âwant to go inside?â

otto & sybill.Â
Otto was ignoring all the schoolwork he technically should be doing. He knew heâd get an ear full from all his professors later, but he didnât care. He likely wasnât the only person having a stressful year and personal drama aside, there was still stressful events happening at school. So far, heâd spoken to his professors about how stressed he was and most of them seemed to care about him enough to understand what he was going through. Though he didnât want to be behind, he was struggling to keep up. âNo, youâre all good!â He grinned. âIt was totally my fault. Iâd run into a wall standing still. Which we all know I canât do.â He took her hand. âIâm good.âÂ
.
Funnily, she kind of a little bit had Otto and his ill advised party to thank for recent events. Not that she and Pandora had hooked up then and there, but it was the first time Dora had ever tried to flirt with her (as far as Sybill knew) and once someone has asked you to imagine them topless, well. She chuckled and shook her head, helping him up to his feet. âGuess we both need to pay better attention then. Good winter holiday?â

âWill go fast though. I bet.â Alice didnât want to think about leaving school, but she knew that she should probably think about it sooner rather than later. Alice liked to be organised, and really didnât want to leave things to the last minute. At least she knew the career path that she wanted, even if she still had to pass her NEWTs. That was a problem for another day. âI know what you meanâŚ. i like being alone too sometimesâ Not all the time, but she liked to get away and just relax sometimes. âMmmm. Make sure you do. I miss hanging out with you.â
.
âNot fast enough.â Sybill sighed, gazing up at the stars. Though, seeing what she had about the future she really shouldnât be wishing for it to hurry up and get here. Perhaps she was just sick of waiting for the other shoe to drop. âItâs good to have time with your thoughts. I think all of us being piled on top of eachother day in day out can start to get a little stifling.â Sybill rolled her eyes but smiled, nudging her shoulder against Aliceâs, âyou miss the homework help, you mean.â

âI like sunny mornings.â Pandora said with a shrug. âMostly I like to wake up early but stay in bed when it isnât sunny outside.â When the sun was out she rose with it and tended to follow it around the house like a cat in the summertime. When Sybill called her the sunny type PJ beamed. It was the sort of vibe she tried her best to give off for others.
âAll that time in bed with my girlfriend? Gosh, I dunno.â She said as she reached out to boop Sybill on the nose. Gosh she still hadnât gotten used to saying âgirlfriendâ and meaning Sybill. It thrilled her every time.
âIâd like most anything if youâre there. And youâve always made me warmer.â
â
.
Generally speaking she was more productive on an evening. Even mornings where she was roused from sleep early her mind tended to be a bit of a fog when Sybill first woke up, attempting to untangle the future from the present. It could be a little confusing. Perhaps with another person there determined to fill the time, it would be easier to realise where she was.
She wrinkled her nose as Pandora tapped it, a little thrill running through her when she called Sybill her girlfriend. Right, she supposed she was that. âWeâll be able to figure something out, Iâm sure.â Her eyebrow quirked skeptically at the compliment, even as it made her blush a little. âThat was corny, even for you.â She tapped her fingers against Doraâs side, scanning the grounds a second time before leaning forward to kiss her softly.

Regulus should have anticipated this. For the zealous, the library would always be a place of fastidious review and late-night rewrites, but with NEWTS and OWLS approaching, flocks of the desperate would be added to the ranks. Worse even, was that many of them would be needing the same information â hence their current inability to find a book. Maybe buying the books for themself would be the clever thing to do. âThanks,â they muttered, taking the seat that Sybil had offered. âI didnât have the foresight to reserve a copy,â they admitted. âI always hate when it starts getting busier.âÂ
.
This was the last year she ahd, and Sybill was going to do her best. True, she didnât actually know what she wanted to do when she left, but having the best grades possible certainly wouldnât hurt whatever she wound up as. Plus sheâd found mental exhaustion was the best thing for helping her get undisturbed sleep. She makes a vague noise of agreement to what Regulus says, not looking up from her work again, âthe sorts of people who only bother studying when their exams are coming up. Yeah, it annoys me too.âÂ

âMmm. At least youâve got a whole year to decideâ Alice probably shouldâve started figuring that stuff out too. It was a surprise she hadnât really, considering that she had already sorted her auror application out. But she couldnât be super organised with all areas of her life. âIâve never really had a choiceâŚ.â Alice mused with a shrug. The flat was small, especially with four of them. But they made it work, and Alice wouldnât change it for the world. âIf you ever wanna hang out whilst youâre waiting Iâm always up for it.â
.
âUgh, right. A whole year.â Alice was so lucky; sheâd already figured out what to do with her life. Sybill could see the future and she still didnât know what to do in it. She also stayed late in the common room so that nobody caught wiseto just how late she was up some nights, of course, but that wasnât not a fact Alice needed to be privy too. âI think itâs good to know how to be alone. But then, Iâve never been the most social. Company can be nice on an evening though, so Iâll remember that.â

He chuckled dryly, thinking about the Hogwarts student population and doubting her words a little. âI donât know, have you met the majority of students who live in this castle? I swear that any drama circulates within a day. Iâm sure they can rise to the challengeâ he assured her, quirking an eyebrow. He had once heard a rumour about himself and listened to it spread throughout the entire student population within an hour. Teenagers could be vicious. âIâm not sure that I looked it, youâd have to ask them. They may have taken a picture, but I was a bit preoccupied with being turned into a human Christmas tree to noticeâ.
.
For a seer, half the time Sybill didnât have a damn clue what was actually going on around her. Drama tended to float over her head a lot of the time because she honestly wasnât interested. Plus, she wasnât exactly keen on gossip so itâs not like she had some chatty pals telling her everything. So it was possible she just missed some of the tensiond that Frank picked up on. âAh, noted. I should pay better attention.â This did give credence to her wanting to keep things with Pandora a secret, though, if things really did get around that fast. âBless, well Iâm sure they like that you humoured them at least. Iâll ask around, someone must have evidence.âÂ

âNo clue. It didnât say who they were from,â Sirius said with a shrug. James had received a mystery gift, as well, and theyâd already spent hours trying to figure out who the gifts could be from. At the mention of the map, Sirius shrugged off his bag and dug around inside of it, pulling out the map. It was detailed enough, he thought, as he offered it out to Sybill. âHuh, I hadnât considered that,â he said, eyeing the map and the large black âXâ in the middle of the lake. âHow would I even get to the bottom of the lake, if thatâs the case?â
.
Sybill looked back up at him from the keys and narrowed her eyes, lips pressed into a thin line. âSo some stranger just... Left these for you.â She clarified, shaking her head. âI donât like the sound of that.â Sybill held the keys away from her, as if suddenly they might be dangerous. (Which they could be, strangers didnât just gift keys to school children for no reason.) âWell itâs X marks the spot, right?â She said after examining the map, holding it as gingerly as sheâd held the keys, âso it must be in the lake. Whatever it is.â She ran her tongue across her teeth as she thought, âbubble head charm?âÂ

âA little windowsill is not a garden though is itâ Alice pointed out with a little smile. She couldnât wait to have her own garden, and so knew she was going to need to live in a house with a garden. Or at least have access to greenhouses and gardens. But she had a whole year to consider things like where she would live once she graduated. âThatâs the only good thing about growing up with a twin. Iâve never had my own room. Makes dorm rooms easy to cope with.â In fact she spent a lot of nights in the Slytherin dorms with Edith. âWill be weird when we graduate next year and dont have dorm mates thoughâ
.
âHmm, point.â Sybill allowed with a smile and a nod, âI suppose it depends what Iâll deem more valuable by graduation, whether Iâll sacrifice a garden to be in the city or not.â Some of that hinged on what the future started to look like, honestly. If there was a lot of darkness still swirling around... Well, there might just be safety in numbers, loathe as she was to admit it. âAh, see. Only child. Iâve never really liked sharing my space, I usually hang out in the common room until the others have gone to bed.âÂ
