i know everyone likes the "maybe kindness is the real punk rock" line, trust me i do too, but i cannot overstate how just fucking good and beautiful the line is when clark tells lois he's going to turn himself in to the government just to find krypto.

lois: "he's just a dog."

clark: "yeah, and not a very good one. but he's out there, alone, and he's probably scared."

excuse me for stating the obvious but like. james gunn outright calling superman an immigrant and doubling down on it when he got backlash (because he IS an immigrant, that's the point of superman) + the in-movie dialogue of "aren't you going to read me my rights?" "you're an extraterrestrial, son. you haven't got any rights to read." + the violence of his arrest and how they torture and mistreat him unapologetically, all under the guise of "protecting america", in a film releasing during the onslaught of violent ICE kidnappings and abuse... yeah it's really no wonder right-wing knobheads are crying about this being woke. they're being forced to look directly at the reasons one of the most notorious heroes of all time would not be on their side. and that's only ONE of the reasons this movie covers

These comics somehow PERFECTLY capture the general vibe of smiling friends, between starting on a completely inane conversation between charlie and pim, and the weird glorbo ianthe was animating for kiriona. No notes.

ANIMATED ADAPTATION OF THE LOCKED TOMB IDEA BRRRRRRRR

This is maybe supremely silly, but if some characters get introduced they have a little freeze frame intro moment with some initial information that differs by character.

Gideon- comic book style, way of getting in some of the more colorful narration moments in the book (mayonnaise uncle, two favorite hobbies are wearing black and sneering, various mean nicknames for Harrow)

Harrow- neat script, generally more clinical like the profiles she does for each of the other lyctors

Nona- Crayon.

I love how Tamsyn Muir was like, in this world everybody’s totally cool about gender and sexuality, but there’s a new invented binary that’s culturally and religiously defining and dictates who people are allowed to love and/or fuck and the roles they play in society.

They’ve written volumes and volumes of religious texts about how to conform to these sacred binary roles and filthy porn about people fulfilling or breaking the stereotypes of these roles. The role a person fulfills is determined before they’re born and dictates every aspect of their life. Once in a while someone who’s supposed to be on one side of the socioreligious binary is born more suited to the other side and has to hide it all their life (Coronabeth). Sometimes people fall in love in a way the socioreligious binary declares blasphemous and they decide to love each other openly anyway, and it shocks and scandalizes people no matter how wholesome and lovely and mundane their relationship is (Abigail and Magnus).

And these sacred binary roles are not equal, oh no, as much as the religious doctrine crows the importance of both roles, one is supposed to sacrifice endlessly and unquestioningly for the other, body, mind, and soul. And these binary roles have existed for ten thousand years and were created by God and underlie the whole structure of the universe! But here’s the secret: there was a time before this sacred binary existed, and God is just Some Guy who made this shit up.
