rumination.
The streets leading out of Old Town were sparse during the witching hour. Only hoodlums drifted about. They slunk in the darkened corners devoid of the White Lady’s moonlight. A lone figure traversed the illuminated cobbled path. Her feet gave out from underneath her upon reaching the bridge over passing the canal; she nearly crumpled over the edge into the murky water that laid beyond.
A breath caught in her throat ―cramped and frustrated. On the precipice of a horrid wail that bubbled in her chest, her only saving grace was an elongated fang that clamped over her bottom lip. All that managed to rise out of her was a strangled groan ripe with dismay.
She drug herself to the stone lip overlooking the water, finding her own moonlit gaze peering back at her. The rippling reflection of gauze wrapped taunt around her head caught her eye. It swaddled the stem of her spectacles, settling them crooked on the bridge of her nose. Despite her typical bookish appearance, a bewildered mirror image met her; she peered curiously at the sight, captivated by it.
The fervor boiling behind her rib cage waned as a pensive expression etched itself onto her countenance. “Do y-you think they’d be proud of me?” She wondered, staring at the rippling version of herself. “Mother. . . Father. . . ?” Her eyebrows furrowed, a wistful glint sparkled in her eyes.
“I know they think I’m meek,” Sylrisa mused. The corners of her lips tugged into a faint frown. “Just a pathetic, naive kid. That’s all they ever see me as. ―A burden.” Words rose to her lips, rupturing through them as a vehement hiss.
She rolled onto her hip, shifting her feet underneath her. Instead of laying crumpled by the water’s edge, she sat up with conviction, peering intently down into the canals.
“But I didn’t bend to his demands. I stood up f-for myself. For Merry.” Images of the night, only half an hour prior, danced within memory. Her lips parted and she bore her fangs, scowling at the water. “Even w-with the barrel of his gun aimed at my throat, I called his bluff. Made him fold his cards. . . And stomp off.”
With a hand pressed into the bricked pavement at either side of her, she delicately pushed herself up onto her feet. Her form wavered as she rose but the determined gleam in her gaze never did. “I w-wonder. . . would they be proud of that?” She murmured thoughtfully, breaking eye contact with her reflection after a long moment.
The elf turned, feet carrying her off into the night ―this time, refusing to let herself buckle underneath her own weight.

Your OC is running late to meeting someone: Do they let the other person know? DO they lie about why they're late?
On a few occasions when she had plans with Merry, the woman she’s courting, but couldn’t make it ―she’s always sent a letter to explain why and apologize. Often she includes cookies or something else that she baked to try to make up for the inconvenience.
In any situation where Sylrisa was at fault for running late to a meeting, she’d profusely apologize and try to make it up to them!

Does your OC have any phobias? If so, where did they come from?
Autophobia ― fear of abandoment.
Pretty typical for someone who’s parents left her in the care of the Sisterhood of Elune. She doesn’t deal with the prospect of losing close relationships very well and often will cling desperately to the person trying to exit her life.
The one exception to this is her parents who she has already rationalized are going to leave her alone again anyway. She’s less effected by them than by close friends, other family, or lovers.

Would your OC feel bad if they acted against their morals? If not, would they find a way to excuse themselves for it?
A situation where Sylrisa acted against her morals came up a couple weeks ago! She was prompted to throw a brick through a window of a man, who she had never before, but was told he did awful, morally reprehensible acts.
In the moment, she mostly threw the brick to impress her friend, because she desperately sought her admiration, but later she thought back on what she’d done and felt guilty over it.
The guilt plagued her for a couple days before she spoke to someone about it, who tried to sway her into believing that sometimes she needed to take actions that weren’t seen favorably in the eyes of the law but were done with the intent of serving justice.
Sylrisa still struggles with accepting that concept since it seems like a slippery slope depending on one’s own perception of justice. She doesn’t want to be a vigilante, after all, but it eased her a bit.
Typically though, she would beat herself up for weeks on end if she did anything against her own moral code.

Do they believe you have to give respect to get it, or get respect to give it?
There’s a base amount of moderate respect she believes everyone should be given even if they’re strangers to one another. Such as the courtesy not to be outright rude.
Sylrisa sorta dislikes the paradigm of not giving respect until you get it, or vice versa, because she feels like some people use that set of morals to never be respectful towards anyone and excuse their behavior with it.

Do they hold doors open for people?
Sylrisa is absolutely the type to hold doors open for even a stranger! She bends over backwards with social niceties, including referring to everyone she meets as Miss or Mister even after she’s become good friends with them.

crossfire.
The stirring of a pasty woman beside her awoke Sylrisa. Her eyelids fluttered open, confusion washing across her features momentarily until she eyed the abhorrent clutter in the room. She held a breath in her chest while she waited for Merry Rogers to settle. After what seemed like ages, she exhaled, slipping out of the bed and towards the door of the bedroom.
Typical clumsy movements were masked with great deliberation of where to step and how to get to the door without waking the large hound nearby. She felt her ankle give beneath her but quickly caught herself on the back of the couch, slinking the rest of the way to the entrance into the apartment. Once outside, tension melted off her shoulders.
She bounded down a short flight of stairs, nearly letting out a shriek as a figure materialized next to her. An elf clad in dark leathers stood beside her. His amber hues slowly rolled to regard her.
“Daughter,” he drawled out. The cloth mask covering his face crinkled with the movements from his lips. She was met with scrutiny, gaze picking apart her composure. “I came to see if you were well.”
Some of the apprehension in her posture melted away at the familiar voice. “I’m fine. But Merry could’ve died.” She replied, irritation hanging heavy around her.
His gaze narrowed and honed in on her left earlobe. The mention of Merry was quickly disregarded. “Where is the earring that Olivia gave you.” It came as a flat assertion but the slight quirk of his eyebrow alluded to the inquisitive nature of the statement. “. . . And your ring is missing. I see now why I was able to finally scry your location.” Amber hues swept over her form, finding trinkets and baubles that she normally carried missing. “Did Woody’s men take them from you.”
“No.” There was a pause as she considered how to proceed. “They w-were stolen from me a few days prior,” she acquiesced in a low mutter.
Illdraes’ nostrils flared; the cloth clung to his face. “Your reason for staying with Rogers then, I presume.” His words were gruff ―disapproval hung heavy on his features. “Why not tell me.” As he continued, his tone grew softer, borderline wounded by the thought of not being privy to this information prior.
Her ears flattened against her skull. Guilt dripped onto her features. “You would’ve blamed her,” she stammered, fidgeting with her fingers as her gaze fell to the ground. She couldn’t look him in the eyes. “And I thought y-you’d be furious with me. Scold me for being careless.”
“Blamed her ―Rogers.” The elf mused out. He decided not to entertain the notion; his daughter was entirely right, of course. “Why don’t you trust me. I only wish to keep you safe, dalah’surfal.” Carefully, he reached a hand to her face, brushing the flesh of her cheek gently.
Panic flooded her as his hand drew closer; it wasn’t him specifically she was afraid of ―she was just on edge after the events of the last few days. Her head jerked back, gaze tipping up to meet his defiantly. “You’re w-working with him! The man who shot Merry.” A frown marred her countenance. “His men beat me unconscious,” she stressed. “How can you work with such a ―a monster?”
His hand folded back to his side, gaze never straying from her. “His business was with Rogers, not you. You were aiming to set him ablaze. Of course his men subdued you. It’s fortunate that you were not shot. I’d advise in the future you not involve yourself in their altercations. If you keep to the wayside, they won’t harm you.”
“You advise,” she repeated, staring at him with a blank expression. “You w-want me to just stand there while my girlfriend is gunned down in front of me.” The elf stated, quirking her head to the side.
His nose wrinkled ―girlfriend. It was all he could do to stifle a rising scoff. “Yes,” he replied simply.
Silence hung heavy between them. Amber and silver gazes met, peering dully at one another.
It was Sylrisa who broke the stillness. A sneer spoiled her complexion; elongated fangs glinted in the moonlight. “W-What’s wrong with you!” She demanded, throwing her hands up in exasperation. “She could’ve been killed, an’da. I won’t watch while that happens. ―Why are you defending such a barbarous man?”
Emotion was devoid of his features; he simply quirked a brow. “She initiated the conflict. Your friend punched him. In their line of work, violence is met with violence.”
“And that makes it o-okay to shoot her?” She hissed out, baring her fangs.
His ear twitched. “I warned you of her when you first became involved,” he drawled out, shaking his head. “This is what you chose to surround yourself with. As long as you hold such company, you put yourself in peril. They will drag you into their petty affairs. You risk your blood being spilled as payment.”
Warmth billowed in her chest ―unadulterated rage. “Y-You’re just like her,” she spat out vehemently. “Just like mother. You rationalize your cruelty towards others in the same fashion. Your moral principles hinge on w-whatever suits your motives at that moment.”
The careless guise wrapped around Illdraes was discarded. “You dare compare me to a woman who slaughtered my innocent child.” Inky shadows clutched at his clawed digits; they swarmed hungrily.
She tipped her chin up and peer up at him indignantly, clenching a fist at her side. Her silence spoke to her assertions; she’d not claim them as false. Violet ichor dripped from her palm where her nails had pierced through the flesh.
“Very well,” he breathed out tersely. The shadows evaporated from his fingers. She was met with a distant look. “I have played along with this charade long enough, Sylrisa. You wish for your independence ―to lay claim to your own decisions. You have never seen me as your father, just as a disappointment. Go run to your mother next you find yourself in trouble, or better yet, to Elindrina.” The name was spat out, lip curling in distaste beneath his mask.
Do not expect me to clean up your messes for you if you won’t even dignify my suggestions by listening, much less admit that I was right about your friend.” He turned on his heel, shadows flickering around his form. “Collect whatever belongings of yours remain in the shop by tomorrow night. The locks will be changed the following day.”
She sucked in a shaky breath, lips contorted into a grimace. Water welled on her lower eyelid, threatening to spill down her cheek. “I will never forgive you if you w-walk away now,” she stated.
“That ―I am counting on.” His words rose to meet the air as mere whispers. He whisked away into the night by cover of shadows.

Does your OC find their family supportive? If not, what would be an example why not?
A question that’d only ever be met with a favorable answer if Sylrisa answered!
Truthfully, though, she only finds some of them supportive.
Her father tries to be supportive but ultimately is very condescending of actions or ideas he disagrees with. Such as Sylrisa’s relationship with Merry, a human woman she’s courting.
Recently she’s met her uncle, Ectriel, who she has quickly grown to like. There’s not been many instances for her to discover if he’d be supportive but she feels as though she could trust him.
Out of all her family, she finds Elindrina the most supportive. Despite their differences in opinion on some topics, she’s always kept by Sylrisa’s side.

Who makes up your OC's family, at least the more important members to them?
Illdraes
Her birth father who she hadn’t met for 7,000~ years. During her reclusion, she had built up an image of who he was ―very starry eyed and unrealistic expectations. There was no possible way the person he actually was could live up to her expectations, but she didn’t expect such a broken & cruel individual to be her father.
She struggles immensely to accept who he is, flaws and all, because she’s seen how ruthless he can be. He embodies everything she’s not; he’s apathetic, cynical, and vindictive. He pushes her to be like him in subtle ways which bothers her because she knows if he had planned to have a daughter, she wouldn’t be what he’d want. She feels like a disappointment to him.
But she tries her best to kindle a relationship with him all the same. It can be exhausting at times.
Syrelia
Her birth mother who was very much an absentee parent for most of Sylrisa’s life. She took Sylrisa to temple used by the Sisterhood of Elune and left her with the priestesses there. At first, she showed up actively to make sure Sylrisa was alright where she had left her. Often times sneaking into the temple during the day to wake her. But as years went on, she visited less and less frequently.
She poured fear into Sylrisa, instilled in her that her bloodline would be weaponized against her by those who hated Highborne and that she’d be exiled like the others if she didn’t hide herself away. It’s left lasting effects on Sylrisa, but she still loves her mother regardless. She believes her mother was just trying to do what was best for her. ―Until recently, at least.
Now, after Sylrelia vindictively murdered Illdraes & Olivia’s child in cold blood out, she believes her mother to be a true monster.
Elindrina
Who Sylrisa refers to as her adoptive mother. Where Illdraes falls short in being a parent and there for his own child, Elindrina picks up his slack and offers parental insight into the problems Sylrisa faces. In recent times, she’s taken to living with Elindrina instead of her father. They’ve grown rather close and Sylrisa feels inclined to trust her adoptive mother more because she respects boundaries better. ―Or at least, acts like she does.
She often shares her worries and problems with Elindrina for insight instead of asking her father for advice. Although in recent times, she’s slowly waned from doing such because she’s noticed it’s causing a rift between her father and Elindrina. She feels guilty about that and isn’t quite sure how to navigate her relationship with either.
Olivia
Someone she saw as a mother figure despite not knowing for very long. Olivia and Sylrisa had a strange first encounter that should’ve led to Olivia seeming very untrustworthy. But, instead, because Olivia took her to meet her father later on, she warmed up and placed her faith in her.
It was Olivia who improved her balance by frequently working with Sylrisa despite being pregnant for the majority of that time. Olivia’s death, despite how cruel and deranged she acted, has hit Sylrisa rather hard. She still mourns for her loss.
Vitani
Illdraes and Olivia’s newborn child who Sylrisa often took care of before her untimely death. She had a strong connection with the child, drawing similarities between the two of them in their muddled bloodline. Her death haunts Sylrisa and she largely feels she’s responsible for her mother’s actions.

1. What of the Meyers-Briggs personality types they most fit into? INFP, ENFT, et cetera…
Sylrisa is INFJ-T, or the Advocate.
Advocates have an inborn sense of idealism and morality, but what sets them apart is that they are not idle dreamers. People with this personality type tend to see helping others as their purpose in life. Though soft-spoken, they have very strong opinions and will fight tirelessly for an idea they believe in. They will act with creativity, imagination, conviction, and sensitivity not to create an advantage, but to create balance.
