Let's try something.
If you experience any kind of synesthesia (mixing of the senses, as in smelling color, tasting sound, seeing colors in words, etc.) reblog this post, and tag it as the synesthesia you experience (if you want). Let’s see how many synesthetes are out there!

Announcement from Bells
Well, I messed up and published my first two posts out of order. Perhaps right here would be a good place to mention that I am a little bit of a scatterbrain, and not the most advanced blogger.
If any of your reading this would like to help me with this blog and become a moderator, let me know! I'd be glad for the help, in addition to beefing up the amount of synesthings published.
-Your distractible moderator,
Bells

What is Synesthesia?
Hi! If you're here, you may be wondering what this synesthesia thing is.
Here's a link to the Wikipedia page: [x]
For one, it's kind of hard to say and spell. If you'd like to call it something else, feel free to do so.
So, here's the thing about me: I'm terrible at explaining things. I could explain to you that to me the word synesthesia begins white almost imperceptibly, then flashes prismatic light simultaneously with a sensation behind the eyes like the idea of the whitest part of a yellow onion.
Ummm....?????
Yeah, don't worry if that made no sense! In short, synesthesia is basically a way of thinking in which certain ideas or sensations are linked with other, unrelated ideas or sensations.
So up there, that weird nonsensical paragraph? That's just how I perceive things. My world is full of senses and ideas that have little actual relation to each other, but are inexplicably linked together. Why was the number four (4) my best friend-number? What does that even mean? Why didn't 9 reveal its personality to me until much later than all the other single-digit numbers? The truth is, we can't really be sure about that kind of thing, which makes synesthesia mysterious and hard to explain.
If you have a good explanation of what synesthesia is, or more specifically what it means to you, submit your explanation in a post and title it "What is Synesthesia?"!
Also feel free to comment on posts by reblogging them and tagging #synesthingsblog or replying to them in the little word bubble at the bottom of posts. I'd really love to hear feedback from other synesthetes, as everyone experiences thinking + perception differently.
Have fun, make art, and share it with the world so that we can appreciate your beautiful mind!
-Your one and only moderator for now,
Bells

Word: "Sanctimonious"
Synesthing Type: Word Visual- Starts out with full purple screen, fades into purple lettering, then transforms into faded texture of old walls. Something like this. ('Mulberry Faded Damask Wallpaper' from Mulberry Home collection, UK.)
Auditory- Very faint music, hard to describe. Somber, funerary.
Olfactory- No noticeable smell
Gustatory- No noticeable taste
Mouth Feel- ???
Tactile- A feeling that if I could touch it, it would feel like old bone.
Position- Centered, firmly grounded (as if carved out of living rock).
So, this is Synesthings' first official 'thing'! How exciting!
I've always tried explaining things to people in terms of smell, taste, texture, and sound... The only problem is, most people don't taste words! They don't get a personality from numbers, or measure abstract ideas in weight or movement. All of these things are something that come naturally to me so it had never occurred to me that people have never felt them.
I've decided to create a blog where I'll post (sporadically) some of the things that come up in my mind. My synesthesia tends to favor words, so that's probably what you'll be seeing a lot of from me.
Moreover, I'll be allowing submissions so that fellow synesthetes out there can show off their perceptions and compare with others. Art depicting your synesthing would be so amazingly super to include!!
Reblogging with comments on how your perception of something (or "synesthing" if you like that word for it) is always encouraged, and submissions are welcomed with open arms!
My only rules would be these: 1. Please tag any suggestive posts as #nsfw! 2. Try to limit your submissions to 4 or 5 synesthings per post! Or whichever number you feel more comfortable with. I'm a 3 person but 3 doesn't seem like enough. This rule is mainly just to keep things orderly. 3. Please, if your post includes a photograph, writing, art, sound clip, anything at all, PLEASE provide a source to its creator! If possible, a direct link to a work is always a good idea. And then the obligatory ~most important rule~,
Treat everyone with kindness and respect! No -isms, especially ableism, will be tolerated on this blog.
Well, I guess that's it. Have fun with your submissions! (PS: If you can think of tags to add to these posts, that would be awesome. I'm afraid I'm a terrible tagger!)
