[From Comicbook.com]
The episode also adapts a key scene from the original game, but omits a line where Joel warns Ellie she's on "mighty thin ice" when she mentions his late daughter, Sarah. When Ellie says she's "not her" before admitting she'd be more afraid with anyone other than Joel, he tells Ellie, "You're not my daughter. And I sure as hell ain't your dad."
Adapting that scene as performed by Pascal and Ramsey "was so emotional," said episode director Jasmila Žbanić. "Sometimes I would be crying behind the camera because they were so truthful and beautiful. This relationship is so touching. I really like that it's changing from the beginning to the end. It's just one episode, but it has so many changes of their relationship, which is really great."

My Thoughts:
👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻
This whole episode was SO emotional! In the scene where Joel & Ellie are being surrounded by the people on horses, you can see the genuine fear on Joel’s face when he thinks the dog is going to attack her.
There’s also the scene where Joel sees someone who looks like Sarah. Omygosh, that got me. Tommy and Joel had just argued, and Tommy said some things he shouldn’t have said. Tommy’s comment, of course, brought up memories of Sarah in Joel’s mind. And then, right after their argument, who does he see? Someone who reminds him of Sarah! Got me right in the gut.
Then, there was, of course, the argument scene between Joel and Ellie in the bedroom. That had me BAWLING like a baby! You can so obviously tell, even in that moment, how much they genuinely care for one another. When she tells him “Everyone I have cared for has either died or left me. Everyone - f*cking except for you! So don't tell me I would be safer with somebody else, because the truth is I would just be more scared.” HAD ME CRYING IN THE FREAKING CLUB!!! And when Joel tells her in response to that, that she is not his daughter, and he sure as hell isn’t her dad, and announces that they are going their separate ways, you can just tell by Ellie’s face how much that hurt her.
The scene where Joel was at the stables was another one of my favorite scenes in this episode. Joel had planned to steal a horse and leave 30 minutes prior, but he couldn't bring himself to leave Ellie. I loved that! And when Joel gives Ellie the choice to either go with him or Tommy, she doesn’t hesitate to pick Joel to be the one to go with her. MY HEART!! I love them & their relationship so much!!! 😭❤️
And then, of course, there was the ending scene. Joel passes out, from blood loss, after being stabbed by a raider. There was fear on Joel’s face in the beginning of the Episode when he thought he was going to lose Ellie, and Ellie shows that same fear on her face when she sees Joel in his current state. They can’t bare to lose each other. I think that if Joel lost Ellie, or if Ellie lost Joel, it would break them, no doubt. That’s how much they care for each other. I know that through each episode of this show, we have seen Ellie & Joel’s relationship grow, but this episode, I think, in particular, really shows just how close they’ve become. This episode was fantastic!
