By the way the plastron she has in the Big Mama’s assistant fit is fake. It’s armour bc for some reason BM has issues with her daughter not being adequately protected. Wonder why…

Uh also ignore that her shell kinda disappears in the BM assistant fit (I tried to make it work over the shell but it made her look really weird and disproportionate so I ended up just pulling the mystic card and bullshitting the explanation of pocked dimension coat. At least she gets hammerspace to pull her spear from now??)

Donnie gave her a battle shell a bit after she officially joined the Hamatos bc a) the magic that was keeping her alive was also pumping in dangerous amounts of empyrean and making her steadily sicker, and causing infection and b) the magic that they replaced it with was less good for protection but far better for her health.

Before they fucked around with her shell spell she was training her ninpo to maintain the spell at a constant rate and prevent it from failing due to lack of empyrean, and then Mikey did the new spell and it’s basically just feeding off her ninpo like a symbiotic relationship (but one of those good ones where everyone involved is happy)

Also they didn’t find out she lost her shell until like three or four months after she joined them bc she went on her first mission with the fam and there may or may not have been a mystic dampening field that almost killed her bc it completely shut down the magic keeping her alive

The skeleton underneath is almost entirely artificial and formed by magic, bc BM has some crazyyy good healers - the empyrean was partially an oversight but also partially BM wanting Frida to be more powerful

ALSO I FEEL SO SMART FOR THE SHELL SPELLS

The one for her BM’s assistant shell is the sigil for carapace, and if you don’t know how to make sigils, what you do is remove any repeating letters and put it on a sigil wheel. And when you remove repeating letters from carapace, you get carpe

So for the second one I really wanted to use diem, bc carpe diem (also while I was trying to find words for this I found out that apparently nova/novus is dawn in Latin which was entirely unintentional but damn nova got the dawn au). I ended up with amat diem which means love the day, because I thought that was a very Mikey thing to do - reinforce his spells with the power of positivity. But then I realised that if I removed the repeating letters from amat diem I got left with “amt die” and idk what amt is but I don’t think dying is the goal here. So, I bashed two sigils into one, having the m of the diem part meeting the m in amt and then I capped both sigils off with diamonds for every connecting line because diamonds are (kinda) her shape language and I thought it looked cool. Then I put a coloured overlay over the skeleton shell (shell-eton?), set the sigils to linear burn, duplicated the layer with the sigils on it and gave it a slight Gaussian blur with it set to add and there! All done :P
