watching death note with my family and after the college entrance episode my mom asked offhandedly if anyone had ever pictured L and light as a couple before. it felt like one single white dove had landed on a crystalline lake in a beautiful pure clearing. no i dont think anyones ever thought of that before

honestly i feel like the death note drama gets a reputation for being deranged and that is because it is deranged but it is ALSO one of the most heartfelt adaptations i have ever seen in my life. it truly understood that it was walking into a beloved fandom more than a decade old and it was not afraid of that. it didn’t replicate the events of death note — it looked for what was at the heart of them, and it put that onscreen instead. it’s both a loving deconstruction and an enthusiastic celebration of death note. it is silly and weird and dead serious. the whole cast looks like they’re having the time of their lives. somehow it’s both the most and least loyal adaptation of death note at the exact same time. it is not for everyone, many people won’t click with the extraordinarily bizarre choices it makes, but i do recommend that everyone give it a chance because it is a wonderfully earnest show that cares very deeply for its source material and wants to tell a good story to the people who love it.

If I had the death note I wouldn’t even care about killing people the real kicker is that you can bend their will before they die. Like who cares if I could give joe biden a heart attack BUT i could make him go up the the podium and say something like “I need a thick girl and a blunt right now or I’ll die” and then he explodes. That’s where the money is

just to be spicy for one second i find it very odd when people see L as 100% white bc visually he’s probably got the most stereotypical asian qualities out of literally anyone in this entire series — like, straight black hair, eyes so dark you can’t see his irises & also arguably the general shape of his eyes. if you take htr13 as canon, he’s officially half japanese. his chosen name is japanese, he is constantly eating traditional japanese snacks, his proxy has a japanese name. obata has an extremely distinct way of drawing white characters and he does not do this for L.

like it really seems to me that the main thing convincing people he’s white is that lived in england & i would gently like to remind everyone that this is not an ethnicity and that there are many, many asian people who live there. he’s a heavily styled comic character and therefore ethnically ambiguous so i wouldn’t go so far as to say this is whitewashing or anything like that but i do think it’s maybe worth taking a step back and reflecting on what it is about this character that cues as white u know.

your analysis of L's autism made me realize i did a lot of things similar to him and i've finally been diagnosed thank you so much.

this means so much to me ive been dying about it.... it makes me so happy!!! i'm really glad for you. also many years ago i found out what autism was through a tumblr blog dedicated to analyzing every episode from every season of cbs elementary and finding any indication that sherlock holmes is autistic, and the subsequent rabbit hole i went down is when i found out that i was autistic, so to hear that i caused the same experience for someone else is incredible
