violence is not romantic or sexy. wlw do not express their love for women through violence towards women. do not ask butch/masculine women, women of color, trans women, strong or athletic women to hurt you. do not say that a woman could “beat you up and you’d thank her for it”. that isn’t cute, that isn’t a compliment, it’s ascribing violence to someone’s features without their consent while simultaneously degrading yourself. it’s dehumanizing and fetishizing.

only semi-related but also i like thinking about what the chalice might have offered lup if it had been able to communicate with her through the umbra staff (there’s no evidence that it couldn’t)

lup watches herself thank taako for everything. she sees herself get up before sunrise, write her family a note (just two words - she could have explained herself, could have said more, they could have found her sooner) and kiss her sleeping boyfriend goodbye.

do you think the chalice offered her a chance to undo that??? she could have slept in with barry. he’d wake up and smile at her so soft and sweet and for a few minutes, everything would feel okay. she could have asked him to come with her. she could have asked taako. she could have asked lucretia.

the chalice fast forwards a few months, and then even further. taako finds her body in wave echo cave, but he doesn’t recognize her. his own sister. when she summons enough strength to burn her name into the wall, he has no idea what it means.

he forgot her. lucretia made him forget her. if lup never left, maybe she would have sent them off together. or maybe lup could have stopped lucretia from erasing their memories altogether. they could have worked together. they could have come up with a new plan.

…but of course, lup refuses. she has to. she knows how much damage the relics can do. there’s no guarantee that a different choice would be a better one.
