Español & English & un peu de Français | 🇨🇴🇨🇺 | Living in 🇪🇦 I like the Age of Enlightenment a lot, mostly Frederick the Great, Voltaire, Emilie du Chatelet, and the Marquis de Sade. It's an obsession I've had for 10 years now. THEME LOOKS LIKE SHIT ON DESKTOP AND IM KEEPING IT THAT WAY. Instagram is @lolas.obligatory.insta, but I just post art and really don't interact, I was forced to make an account for work

I know that society was very homosocial in the 18c. So it makes sense that men were closer to other male friends rather than wives. And probably turned to them for emotional intimacy and stuff. So I get that straight men did all that. But imagine being gay?? Imagine being gay in the 18c when it was customary for friends to cuddle and get all touchy and say I love you dearly. I would be so on edge. What it I get a boner. How do I explain that away. Wtf do I do? I'd cry

This portrait of Alexander Hamilton's funeral from Gouvneur Morris' point of view is absolutely heart wrenching. I'm just utterly floored by the way it perfectly encapsulates the pure desperation one might feel upon having lost a lifelong friend and business partner such as Morris had. You can just feel his melancholia through the screen; I've never seen something depict raw frustration so well. I haven't even touched on its technique or composition. The dissonant colors... the distorted forms... the arrangement. Charles Peale the man you were....

Too many rich people buying medieval castles and then renovating the interior to look like a completely normal 21st century house. Sorry but if you're going to live in a castle you need to commit to the bit. If I lived in a castle I would restore it just enough to be barely liveable and pretend I was a poor but prideful nobleman in his crumbling estate, still clinging to the last vestiges of his family's fading name.
