Yes, same for the others when they were young; Marshmallow would eat fabric, Test Tube would eat the insides of an ash tree (if she were able to get into one), etc. They're all perfectly capable of eating normal food though

Kinda stupid question, but how do you chose the bugs for the contestants? Is it by personality, kinda like Suitcase’s?

It varies, sometimes it's for the appearance of the bug being similar, sometimes for an ability that fits (ex. Fan is a click beetle because they can flip), sometimes for the bugs reputation or personality like you said, or even for some sort of symbolism (ex. Pickle is a harlequin cockroach because Taco is an emerald cockroach wasp). Usually it's a mix of multiple of those reasons
