I Carried a Watermelon now has art!

Art by the ridiculously talented @floweryanarchy who I commissioned as soon as I was done writing the whole fic, as a treat to myself. (She’s given me the OK to post!)

My favourite detail is Gale’s full 1990s NHS specs, and I can’t believe how good she’s made them look on Gale. Actually how good she’s made them both look. I almost walked in totally the wrong direction on the tube today, that’s how excited/floored I was for this.

Nivasi's entire catalogue is full of gold and this one is an underrated gem. Once I read Gale licking blood from Astarion's lips I couldn't get it out of my mind.

Gale from @vannral's the wizard fashion, which I emphatically recommend if you think you'll enjoy some sweet married bloodweave smut and Astarion losing his mind over Gale wearing pretty lingerie (as he SHOULD)💜💜💜 I've been having a time these past several weeks and vannral's bloodweaves have been such a comfort, so I figured another fanart was in order as a show of thanks LOL

I've done fanart for the halcyon days ahead of us (post canon, only one bed RAAAA) and on these calm waters (act 3 falling in love 🥺), and I also really love in the middle of a maze (Gale peril!!!) and the price of loving someone (really sweet Gale & Shadowheart friendship plus some misunderstandings). The ongoing an act of bargaining also has me in a chokehold rn but honestly, I wholeheartedly recommend every one of vannral's bloodweaves as they are wonderfully written and sweet and ogugghgughg I love them so much 😭

I feel like the shading obscures a lot of the iridescent effect on the corset & dressing gown so here's it without, and also what's under the gown because I think his underwear turned out really cute and you can barely see it (by design hehehe) -

Getting the sheer robe to look right was a TRIAL but it was so worth it imo 😊 Multiple translucent layers stacked on top of one another to get the right amounts of opacity., and then a gradient map to get the pearly effect wehehehe

The tent is dim, quiet — the kind of quiet that wraps around you, soft and whole. The storm of the day has passed. Now there’s just this.

Gale lies on his back, one arm cradling the weight of Astarion against him. The other holds the worn book open in one hand, tilted just enough to catch the last flicker of candlelight. Astarion sleeps on his chest, hand splayed over Gale’s heart like he needs to feel it to believe it’s real.

Gale reads softly, voice barely above a whisper, careful not to wake him — or maybe hoping the words reach him anyway.

It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.”

Astarion shifts, just slightly. Not waking. Just… nestling closer. His fingers curl a little, and Gale feels the flutter of it like a thread pulled through him.

Another page. Another line.

“You become responsible, forever, for what you have tamed.”

Gale smiles, just a little, without meaning to. He presses a kiss to Astarion’s hair, slow and quiet. His chest rises and falls beneath Astarion’s hand, steady and warm. Something constant.

He reads the last line for himself. For them.

"You — you alone — will have the stars as no one else has them…”

Then he closes the book. Lets the silence bloom. And holds Astarion as he sleeps.

Because he is here. Because his breath is slow against Gale’s skin. Because this — this quiet closeness — feels like peace.
