I am a massive fan of zombie media. Have been for years now. I binge watch zombie shows/movies all the time, having exhausted Netflix' UK cataloge. I listen to any zombie-flavoured podcast that comes along, read any undead based books I can get my hands on, hell I even did the whole Zombies! RUN! thing for a little while. All of this to say, it's a big part of my life.

And I think I've figured out the root of it.

I'm the youngest in my household, meaning my mother was rather lax with rules, and I has unrestricted access to the internet. Which included such delights as BBC iPlayer, the driving force behind my, now crippling, zombie media addiction.

I was scrolling through iPlayer one day, hoping to find something to watch. I was a big fan of game shows, regularly watching the Challenge channel on TV, so I was perusing the game shows on hand.

Then it showed itself.

I Survived A Zombie Apocalypse.

A definitely rigged (in hindsight, not to my 12 year old mind) game show in which contestants had to survive several days and challenges in a zombie infested shopping center. Think Zombieverse but British and about a decade earlier. It was due to be taken off iPlayer soon, so I watched it over and over again. It wasn't overly gorey, but gorey enough that I knew my mother wouldn't let me watch it if she knew, so I have kept it a secret for the last 9 years.

I wanted more, though. Game shows wouldn't cut it anymore, I needed zombies to scratch that little itch in my brain. Not long after ISAZA was taken off iPlayer, I began my search. That's when I found the masterpiece that would kick my zombie obsession into overdrive.

Dead Set.

A limited zombie series aired on E4 in 2008, made specially to run after episodes of Big Brother in the run up to Halloween. In the work of fiction, the zombie apocalypse breaks out during an eviction night on big brother. The housemates face tricky dilemmas and life or death situations.

If you have not watched Dead Set, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DO SO. It's such a great show and holds such a special place in my heart. I've watched it countless times, and it'd utterly brilliant. There's funny bits, thrilling bits, and the overall craftsmanship of the show is just gorgeous for the time.

It also has zombie Divina Mcall. What more do you want from a zombie show?

I, again, watched that in secret for years Finding new shows along the way. That was it, two shows and my zombie mad self was changed forever.

He took his time squeezing past you through the tight space. "You coulda said 'xcuse me." You bit your lip and tried not to acknowledge the uncomfortably hard object. "You were just so interested in your conversation, I didn't wanna interrupt." 

He finally slid past you, his hands no longer on your waist, but they still felt like they were. "Sorry, lollipop." He winked. "It's okay." You quietly forgave. He turned around, heading to where he was going before your exchange.

You watched as he talked to his same jerkass group. He looked over at you while he was mid-conversation and you quickly looked away, with a blush coating your cheeks. You could feel the smirk he was sending toward you burn into your body.

You were still trying to catch your breath when Su-hyeok pulled you to the side. "Are you okay?" He asked with concern written all over his face. "Yeah, I mean, I think so." You smiled to try and ease his worries. His eyes quickly scanned over your body to make sure there were no visible bite marks.

"I'm fine, I promise." You take his face in your hands, your eyes meeting each other's gaze. He nodded, but he still scanned every last inch of you that was visible to him. "Sorry, sorry. I just.." He trailed off, his mind racing and his eyes wandering to the group who seemed to just be standing around. He turned back to you, a glimmering look in his eyes.

You looked up at him. "You just.." You encourage him, trying to get to the very center of his mind. He licked his lips before reaching his hand into his back pocket. You cock your head slightly, confused at to what he could possibly be reaching into his pocket for. He glances at the group one more time before pulling a little black box out of his pocket.

"I know this probably isn't the best place to do this and I don't really have anything to say planned but I just really really love you, Y/N. And when we get out of all this I want to be your husband." He opened the box, revealing a ring inside. You were shocked, your words running dry. You examined the ring in the box, looking back up at Su-hyeok with visible shock.

Even in these horrid times, he still finds a way to make a smile creep onto your face. "Oh, my god." You gasp quietly, mostly to yourself. "Whaddya say? Wanna be stuck with me forever?" He smiled and you couldn't say no. "Yes, a thousand times, yes!" He smiles at your responses and takes the ring out of the box and places it on your finger. You take a second to admire the ring before wrapping Su-hyeok in your arms.

You laughed in your head at his choice of place and time but it made it even more special in it's own sick way. "I love you." You whispered in his ear and he couldn't help the overwhelming feeling of joy that filled his chest when the words left your tongue. "I love you." He returned the phrase, leaving a kiss on your temple. "What are you guys doing over there?" Dae-su calls out forcing you both to break the hug. You can't help but giggle at the annoyed look on Su-hyeok's face.

It was your birthday, and you were eagerly waiting for Joon-Yeong to wish you a happy birthday like he always did. You had been looking forward to this day for a long time, and it was important to you that Joon-Yeong remembered.

But as the day went by, there was no sign of him acknowledging your special day. You were upset, and you couldn't help but wonder if he had forgotten about you or if he didn't care about you as much as you thought he did.

You tried your best to ignore your feelings and decided to hang out with your other friends instead. However, it was hard for you to fully enjoy their company when you were still thinking about Joon-Yeong and why he hadn't wished you a happy birthday.

As the day went on, you began to distance yourself from Joon-Yeong. You didn't talk to him or hang out with him like you normally would. He didn't even seem to notice that either. That was until the next day when you didn't want to talk to him or even make eye contact.

So, every time he tried to talk to you, you would give him a cold response or ignore him entirely. It confused him to see you acting like this, and he racked his brain for any solution to why you were acting like this. Did you not want to be friends anymore? Was it something he said? Was it something he didn't say?

After trying to find the answer on his own, with no luck, he stopped you on your way home from school. "You've been acting different." He stated plainly, hoping you would open up to him. "Oh, am I? Didn't notice." You coldly and sarcastically responded before beginning your walk home again, with him following shortly after.
