Jacquetta was born to a minor noble family. she is the second oldest, with a sister younger than her and 2 brothers. while not destitue, the family was not well off. Jacquetta being the practical women she was, understood and expected to marry someone with a title, or at least well off. she understood that most marriages were based in a transactional manner, and was comfortable with that, however she was not going to marry someone she did not like, and did not respect her. when jacquetta was 20, she was approached by baron james covington. the pair quickly became friends. jacquetta and james adored one another, but they were not in love. james had almost married the love of his life, but she tragcially died just a week before their wedding. being a titled gentleman, he knew having no male reletaives, he would have to continue the line. since they were so close, james purposed to jacquetta, and the two of them got married. shortly after, she became pregnant, with a son christened james as well. they had a better marriage then some in the ton. however before her son turned 3, james died from being thrown from his horse. jacquetta decided the likely hood of finding a happier marriage than she had with james, was unlikely, however she has been looking for help raising her son as the next baron.

jacquetta had been looking on the different couples dancing. she loved to dance, but she did not want to give anyone a false impression. she was not looking for  a husband. while she and james were not in romantic love, they adored one another, and he respected her in a way she rarely saw in most marriages. they were truly friends, and in her own way, she did love him. she saw friends think a man was charming and good, only to be treated horrible after marriage, simply because the man married them due to their dowry. james had left jacquetta with a huge account for herself, so she knew if she married, her new husband would take the money. not to mention her son’s well being.

jacquetta caught the eye of owen thornby. she had known him through her husband james, and remained friendly with him. he was handsome, and she could see lots of women trying to have him dance with them. with each dance he looked less and less interested. she wasn’t sure why this amused her. she was more grateful than ever she was not on the market. this whole ritual seemed like a lot. as she saw him step away, she couldn’t help but tease ❝you could show some enthusiasm, after all it was a dance not a trip to the gallows.❞

jacquetta had decided to take some fresh air in the garden. luckily there were a few married couples spread out, so it wasn’t as if she were completely alone. she sighed. the night air was nice and warm. she looked at the sky, and smiled. what a perfect night she thought. just as she began to enjoy the night air, she saw a young women, with red hair run out of the ball. she looked upset. if jacquetta was right, it was one of the feathrington girls...penelope if she was not mistaken. she felt bad penelope looked sad, so she walked over, and gave her a warm smile ❝are you alright?❞

jaquetta and her younger sister margo were walking the grounds of covington house. it wasn't a large property, but it was a good walk if you wanted to go all the way around. her place in the country was a lot bigger. her son had decided to tumble down the small hill, not nearly enough to cause injury, and got up laughing, which caused her to laugh. ❝i haven't laughed like this is a long time.❞ she had been so focused on her son, she didn't even allow herself to be happy. perhaps with margo here, she would find the time to laugh more ❝well it is easy to laugh when i am surrounded by those i love so much.❞
