Elder God
Summary: gn!reader After an unfortunate incident, you find yourself "bound" to an elder god called Azul. Now you have three days to try and save yourself.
CW: elder god au! So of course some horror esc imagery, injury, I'm not sure if this is Yan or just horrorish, tbh, haven't decided. I might explore it later, there is a cat but nothing happens to it, so you don't have to worry! Spreading my cat lover Jade and Floyd agenda, some victim blaming
Part Two Part Three Lore Part Four
You hated going out at night. If it came to it, you would have your keys between your fingers, and have a pocket knife in your other hand. But your greatest fear was that, if it came to it, it wouldn't be enough.
And you were right. You had strained your back earlier, and had tried to sleep it off. But it was not working out, so, petting your cat for courage, and steeling your nerves, you decided to rush to the pharmacy across the street from your apartment, grab a good bottle of pain killer, then run back.
It was on the run back that a group of hooded figures grabbed you and dragged you into a derelict building.
Tied up, sobbing, and surrounded by hooded figures chanting, you were certain this was it. You were going to die because you strained your back.
A fog was filling the room, and the lights were beginning to shimmer blue and purple, waving like the lights in an aquarium. And out of the lights emerged a man with silver hair, in a gray tuxedo. He was soon flanked by two tall men, one of whom was brimming with unmasked excitement.
"What is it you ask of me?" The silver haired man asked, pressing a gloved hand to his chest, and bowing.
"Bring about the destruction of this plane," one of the hooded figures said.
"It's a deal."
Inky blackness rose up around him and tentacles rushed out of it, wrapping around the hooded figures, and absorbing them into the ink. It was too fast, but also too slow.
The man strode over to you, and you tried to scoot yourself away. Naturally, your tied up body was no match for him, and he reached you, and ripped the gag from your mouth.
Your first thought, and the first words out of your mouth were, "Please don't kill me, I have no one to feed my cat!"
All three men froze, before the excited one burst into laughter.
"Gahaha! Did you hear that Azul?"
"Fufu it's certainly one of the more unique requests we've ever received."
Azul stared at you for a moment before nodding. He then snapped his fingers, and the twin men picked you up and held you firmly between them. You struggled in their grasp, but they were inhumanly strong.
He stared at you, before gently caressing your tear stained face.
Then his jaw unhinged, displaying row after row of sharp teeth. You screamed as he bit your shoulder, trying to struggle away, only making the bite wound worse as he held tightly to your shoulder.
He released his bite, looking human again, and the twins dropped you to the ground, letting you writhe in pain as you sobbed.
Azul knelt next to you, giving you a pleased smile.
"You have three days to get your affairs in order. After that, I will come to collect, ready or not."
The three vanished into inky blackness leaving you alone on the floor.
….
You weren't sure how you got home. You couldn't remember. And you could almost convince yourself that the night before hadn't even happened, if it weren't for the throbbing bite in your shoulder, and the man sitting on top of your bookshelf, who was wearing an eerie grin.
"Morning Shrimpy. Just came to check on ya!" You sat completely still as he leapt off the bookshelf, and reached down to pet your cat, who, like a good protector, had only just noticed him.
"To be honest, I thought you were lying about the cat. A lot of people give us all kinds of bull shit when they think Azul's about to kill them. Very cute though," he picked it up, and, unexpectedly, the cat nuzzled against him and purred.
You slowly stood up from your bed, and walked over to him like you were approaching a wild animal. He probably was, to be honest. You had no idea what had happened last night, so the three of them could truly be anything.
But that was exactly why you wanted to get your cat away from him.
"Ah, I'm not gonna hurt your cat. I like cats. My brother and I used to have a lot of them," he said with a snicker, before handing you the cat. "Obviously that was before we decided to serve and obey an ocean entity. Cat's don't do well with water. But I'd give anything to have a little fella with me."
Did he truly not understand how scared you were of him? Did he truly not get how distressing his presence was? How it reminded you painfully that you'd been marked for death?
Apparently not, because he decided to plop cross legged on your bed.
"So, what are we going to do today?"
"We?" You regretted how quickly you snapped at him, but he seemed unconcerned.
"Well, getting affairs in order is a lot of work, plus you gotta decide who can take care of your cat, and you need to process what's coming. Also, lots of people waste the time they're given trying to get out of their situation. You might want some help."
"Get out of my house," you snapped.
"Alright. Your loss," he said with a laugh, before poofing into inky blackness.
He was right. All the things you should be doing would take more time than you had. But you still couldn't bring yourself to do anything more than lay in your bed with your cat, wallowing in misery.
….
It was day two and your bite was infected. It had to be. You'd never had a wound seep black ooze before, but it had to be infection.
You'd already used all your bandages and rubbing alcohol to try and clean it, when a cold cloth was pressed to your shoulder. You screamed.
"Hush. You're just giving yourself extra work. A cold cloth will numb the area," A calm voice said.
You turned and saw the man from yesterday. Or not exactly the man. Something was different, you just couldn't tell what.
"There's nothing you can do about it," he hummed with a close eyed smile. You were certain he wasn't talking about the wound anymore.
"I have one more day, get out of my house."
"I just want to observe. What made Azul just give you the chance Floyd and I had to beg for?"
You couldn't see either of those men begging for anything, but sometimes it's best to keep your mouth shut.
He took another step towards you, and inhaled deeply.
"You smell of death."
"Look, I'm sorry I didn't shower yesterday. I'm kind of going through something." You snapped.
"No, you don't stink, you smell of-" he was interrupted as your cat rubbed up against his leg. He grinned in delight.
"Well hello little one! Would you like to come with me forever? I'm sure you wouldn't like it, our dimension is very wet."
He turned to you,"Floyd and I used to-"
"He told me yesterday. Get out."
He raised his hands in mock surrender.
"Alright, alright. We'll see how brave you are tomorrow evening, fufufu."
And like his brother, he vanished.
You were so lost on what to do. But he was right about the cold cloth. As much as it infuriated you, it was numbing the area, and dulling the pain. But you'd need a new one soon. This one was almost soaked through with black liquid.
Trying to decide your next steps you heard a tentative knock at the door. Grabbing a jacket to hide the bite, you answered it, and were greeted by your neighbor.
He was a shy thing, who took care of his chronically ill brother, and worked from home. He probably would have never gotten the strength to talk to you if it wasn't for your cat. But overtime, you'd gotten to know one another quite well when he'd come over to pet your cat. In fact, you were wondering why he wasn't the first person you called about caring for your cat.
"Hey Idia, need some kitty time?"
He nodded quickly, searching out your cat within your apartment. He had a sixth sense about where it was. He could find it anywhere with little help from you.
"Idia, can I ask you a question?"
He looked between you and your cat nervously.
"Um, sure, that doesn't sound concerning at all."
"If something happened to me, would you take care of my cat?"
He snorted before turning back to your cat. "Nothing's gonna happen to you, Y/N."
"But if it did-"
"Nothing's gonna happen to you, Y/N," he said in a colder tone than you'd ever heard from him.
He started fiddling with his necklace subconsciously. It was a golden pomegranate on a gold chain. He claimed it was a symbol for death. Idia had an odd hyperfixation on all things…
You were internally smacking your forehead at the fact that you didn't turn to your supernatural obsessed friend about your situation.
"Idia, I got in some trouble, and I'm hoping you might know something that can help."
He stiffened. "If it involves going out, you know I'm not super good at that…"
"It's not that. Are there any books you can recommend about escaping, I don't know how to explain it, I guess, shady deals?"
He looked at you in total confusion. "The fuck? Did you get in with the Mafia or something? Cause I don't know much about-"
"No!" You cried in exasperation. "It's not even a deal really, I wasn't given any voice or choice in anything, I was literally pulled along for the ride."
He looked at your cat as though he was hoping they would tell him what you were talking about.
"Gah! Okay, let me just show you!" You started to unzip your jacket, and he looked away with a blush. You exposed the wound, and spoke.
"Idia, I'm decent, just look."
His gaze traveled to the wound and within seconds you were on the floor, as he hovered over your body, staring at the wound and tracing it with a finger, his face filled with rage.
"How the fuck did this happen?"
You'd never seen him so angry before. It wasn't even your fault, but you still felt scared to tell him. Luckily, it didn't seem like he was waiting for an answer because he was rapid fire questioning you.
"How did they even get in? Everything is so heavily marked, they shouldn't have even gotten past the door?"
He gripped your chin, his eyes glimmering with a dark rage.
"Why did you let him touch you?"
You let out a sob, and he immediately seemed to realize how he was sounding, cause he suddenly looked scared and timid as he quickly scooted away, hastily apologizing.
"I'm so sorry, I didn't mean it, I'm just confused at how this could have happened, I," he bit his lip and looked away. "When we started to be friends I left talismans all over your house. He shouldn't have been able to get through the doorway without his flesh burning from his body."
"So you know who he is? Who is he?" You cried as you sat back up, and wrapped your arms around your knees.
"If you didn't know, why did you…nevermind. He's an elder god. An old one at that. To be honest, you should be dead if you encountered him. So why would he-"
"I was dragged into a building by a group of hooded strangers, then he killed all of them and bit me," you snapped, not liking the victim blaming angle he seemed to be taking.
"Huh. That's even weirder. You should definitely be dead."
You both sat in tense silence for a moment, before you decided to break it.
"Idia, do you know how I get out of this?"
He chewed his lip. "I have one idea, but I wouldn't recommend it. How long do you have before he tries to claim you?"
"A day and a half," you whispered.
"Look, I could recommend some reading for you, but it would be a waste. He really hasn't set foot in here?"
You shook your head.
"Then as long as you stay in here he can't get you. Like I said, I set up a lot of wards and talismans in here…"
"With all due respect I don't see how something you bought at a ren faire or anime con is going to save me…"
"Don't get snippy with me. I'm trying to help you keep your soul!" He snapped. For a moment, you thought his blue dyed hair had flickered red. But it was so fast. Your eyes were probably playing tricks on you.
"His two servants or slaves or whatever have already been here!"
His eyes widened and his jaw dropped. "They shouldn't have been? How did they get in here? Where were they?"
"My room-" he was instantly in your room, before quickly coming back.
"You scared the hell out of me. They haven't been here. What you saw was probably the equivalent of an illusion or hologram."
"But how do you know?"
"I just know. So my point still stands. He can't get in here, so as long as you stay in here, you'll be okay."
He heaved a sigh of relief. You did not share his feelings on the matter.
"What's your second idea?"
He looked away, cheeks pink again.
"You invoke a different god. Put his mark on you. Something permanent, like a tattoo. I'd recommend the death god."
He was fumbling with his pomegranate necklace again.
"Well since you told me not to leave my house…"
"Ortho and I both know how to do it, and safely too. Ortho is slightly more precise but," he pulled the collar of his hoodie down a little to expose the top of a tattoo on his chest, "I did this one myself."
You felt drawn to the mark, and reached out to touch it, but he hastily yanked the collar back up.
"I wouldn't recommend it. You're just trading your soul to someone else.  The death god is patient though. He is willing to wait. But it is binding. And the mark would keep him out should the worst happens."
"I'm not too keen on binding myself to an elder god," you muttered under your breath. "And you're certain as long as I stay in here I'll be safe?"
He nodded vigorously.
"Okay, it's not like I have any other choice. I'll put faith in your talismans and charms and stuff."
"Good call," he stood up and headed towards the door. "I'm going to see if there's anything else I can do or set up around here. Ortho might know something too."
He paused at the door, a hand gripping the doorframe.
"If you change your mind about the mark…just know you still have time."
Before you could respond, he quickly left your apartment.
….
Over the course of the next twenty four hours, Idia popped in and out; placing extra charms, extra talismans, dropping books for you to skim through, sending Ortho to place salt lines in various doorways, petting your cat for moral support, all the things.
He had asked twice more if you wanted a tattoo. The first time you were still thinking about it. The second time, after thinking it through you said,
"If I bound myself to a different god, I'd be back in the same position I am now."
He said he understood, but there was something in his tone that gave you pause. Maybe it was him reflecting on how he was bound to the death god. That would make sense, and if you made it out of this, you'd definitely ask the Shroud brothers why they did it.
Ortho was using a pen to draw a protective mark on your wrist, when you asked,
"Isn't this a little bit overkill?"
"I just want you to feel safe. The safer you feel the less likely you are to leave the confines of your apartment. We know they can send illusions in here, so as long as you can convince yourself you're safe…I'm hoping you won't let them get to you."
"Idia, if something happens to me-"
"Nothing's going to happen to you," he said, choking up a little.
"But if it does-"
"Nothing's going to happen to you, but if it makes you feel better, on the off chance something did happen, I'd take your cat for you."
"Thank you," you whispered. "That book you gave me said if worst comes to worst I can make a deal with him."
"I wouldn't recommend that method. Deals with him are known to only benefit him. You might find you've given him the thing he actually wanted in the first place, and be out something big like your voice or your firstborn or a leg. I heard he asked for a leg once. Wouldn't surprise me, you have nice legs…" that last bit seemed to be just rambling, and since he'd been helping you, you decided it was better to pretend you didn't hear it.
You sat in silence for another couple moments, before Idia spoke again.
"Would you mind if Ortho spent the night on your couch? I'd feel better if he could be here to protect you."
You eyed the scrawny boy in front of you, who was now blowing on the delicate pen marking on your wrist, and raised an eyebrow.
"All due respect, but how would Ortho stand up against a tentacle monster thing?"
"I'm stronger than I look!"
"For real, he's like boss level. Plus I'm gonna spend the night figuring out what to do when you survive until morning. We'll need something more permanent, cause I doubt he'll just let you off the hook."
"If it makes you feel better, Ortho can spend the night. But only if you are both-"
You couldn't even finish before both of them were nodding vigorously.
….
That voice. You needed whoever that was. You needed them so badly. You needed to hear that song until you died. You needed it.
You should find it. You were going to find it. Someone is trying to stop you! They are a monster, don't they understand you need that voice? That you need that singer?
They are screaming at you, but the voice is louder. You feel a second person near you, and now you're free! You can keep looking for the voice.
Oh God! There he is! Standing in the moonlight, gazing benevolently down at you. He cups your cheek and whispers,
"Are you ready to go home, dear one?"
Suddenly, something thunks over your ears and you're startled back to reality, standing on the roof and staring at the three menacing "creatures".
Ortho, after placing the noise canceling headphones on your ears, had started to immediately fight with the monsters.
"Run Y/N!" He shouted, and you ran.
Down the stairs. Down the hall. There was your door, you just had to step over the border and call Idia…
Something wrapped around your ankle and tripped you. You flipped onto your back, and saw him standing in the stairway door, floating in the air, and extending his arms, eyes glowing purple as tentacles emerged behind him and shot straight at you .
You attempted to scream for Idia, but a tentacle wrapped around your mouth, two more around your ankles, and you were pulled into a black inky vortex.

I'd do it myself if I could, but I've gotta go to my club's exhibit soon…

all this talk about tumblr breaking and it broke on me just before making this post :’)  was trying to come around sooner but funnily enough it was my first day back to work after a brief vacation. it was a very tiring day and i will be crashing after this post but to get to the point, my name is oso (21+, she/her, cst) and it’s been a little while since i’ve rped on tumblr so pls be patient with me! my muse is kaoru (hollow, he/him, 25) and he has the ability to induce fear. to be honest, it’s a new little trick he’s still getting used to as he’s only been in the institute for a little over a year and he only discovered his power a few weeks before that. here’s a link that goes a little more in-depth about kaoru and his ability but there’s still some tinkering around i need to do with his bio/past. under the cut i have a short little rundown of how he discovered his power and definitely a point or two that can spring into connections
cw // mention of abuse . kaoru discovered his ability after receiving a call from a close friend getting into a violent situation with their partner. kaoru is above all else protective and where his ability would usually only manifest itself enough to intimidate others, this experience became a blowout that left the abusive partner in a catatonic state. kaoru was not aware of his ability until that moment and finally began to put two and two together on why, despite not getting into fights, others feared him when he would begin to get irritated. this happened in seoul so if any muses ran with the ‘outcasts’ or ‘rebellious’ side of society, they could have been this friend with the abusive partner
kaoru is very much a ‘stays on the fringes of society’ kind of person. he’s obviously a foreigner and that creates its own battles but his power continually creeping up throughout his life had always left him in the company of the outcasts rather than the classroom leaders. so, like above, if your muse was an ‘outcast’ or ‘undesirable’ in seoul up to three years before 2033, kaoru and your muse could have crossed paths whether on good or bad terms - or maybe even neutral terms. maybe they just so happened to exist in similar circles but never directly interacted until AFTER joining the institute
now... i’ll be honest, outside of this right now my brain is not working so i will definitely be hitting up the dms i’ve gotten to get to plotting but if anyone would like to plot, feel free to dm me a heart emoji and i could look thru your wcs or we could just chat about our muses until something clicks. i’ll get around to joining the discord once i am more awake and not quite as busy. i do have to say, i am excited to be rping with y’all and can’t wait to see what fun we can have!
