When he heard that the Ghost Hounds' base was affected during a TD outbreak, he didn't have to think it twice before discussing the matter with administration and then sending two vehicles full of food rations and medics to the location to tend to the injured. He obviously went as well. The Ghost Hounds had been a great aid to the Midnight Rangers, especially with the more frequent TD attacks. If not for them, perhaps there would be more families going to Knell Square to pay their respects. So, even though the mercenary group affiliation to Jinzhou is a temporary one, it's near impossible to not see them as part of the city, just like all other citizens. "You'll have to forgive me for the delay, I came as soon as I was informed of the situation," was the first thing the general said upon arriving. He looked around, glad that the crisis was under control now, but there still was much that needed to be done. "You look close to overclocking, please take a seat, so I can treat you."
THE SITUATION AT THE base was now firmly under control, although the groans of pain from the wounded still lingered all the same. TD outbreaks came out of nowhere, and despite how he and his people were well used to situations like this considering these were a norm where they came from, one could never completely prepare for them when they did transpire. ❝Status report,❞ he spoke to one of his medics, gaze cold and tone just as frigid, nevertheless the older man was not the least bit deterred by this. Rather, they made to pull bloodied gloves from their hands, tossing them in a nearby wastebin before speaking.
❝There were a few casualties, but the death count is rather low.❞
     ❝How many?❞
     ❝Ten.❞
Ten was still too many in his opinion, even if ten was indeed a low number from a logistical standpoint. Still, how unfortunate it all was. He said nothing, eyes narrowing slightly as he gazed upon the agonized breathing of one of his Ghost Hounds. The medicine they were given hadn’t settled yet, granted that he knew eventually they would either pass out from the pain or because those pills were quickly working through their system. There weren’t enough medics to tend to everyone’s hurts, but no doubt word had reached the Jinzhou about the situation. For all he knew, they were already on their way here. Turning away, he had just stepped out of the medical ward when the approach of vehicles caught his full attention. He need but offer a single glance at them to know where they were from. Though he shouldn’t be surprised to see that assistance had arrived, at the same time, he couldn’t help but feel this all the same.
Mercenaries were disposable bodies. This was a cold truth they all knew. If any of  them died out there on a battlefield, they’d just be another corpse for the vultures. As such, aid like this was…peculiar to him. Why waste resources on outsiders that were merely hired hands? That was a question he would have asked himself had he still been new to how things worked around here. However, after staying within Jinzhou for as long as he had, he had come to learn that the people were just…like…this.
     It made no sense, really.
     Jiyan, even more so.
❝Your arrival is appreciated. My medics are a bit overworked at the moment, so they would be glad for the offered help.❞ His gaze slid from the General to the trucks, watching as food and supplies were already being unloaded with a speed he found rather impressive. Jiyan’s voice tugged his attention back before it lingered elsewhere for too long, his expression unreadable as he met with that unwavering gaze before a small, quiet sigh managed to slip from him. This was wholly unnecessary considering he has been on the brink many a time, but he knew there was little point in attempting to shoo the other away when he knew they would only stand firmer. Thus, without another word, he made his way over to a crate, taking a seat as was asked of him.

A gentle little kiss on his cheek, away from prying eyes. " I couldn't kiss you early since there were people around so, ah, good morning, Kento-san. "

THE KISS UPON HIS cheek was surprising, and though Nanami did at least attempt to hide his surprise by acting other than surprised, the color that blossomed upon the tips of his ears stated otherwise. ❝There was no need for…any of that, but good morning to you as well, Qistina-san.❞ Other than teasing moments from his past due to certain rowdy friends back at a certain high school, or of course, an affectionate peck from his mother, he couldn't say that anyone outside of that had just so casually leaned in kissed his cheek before. Nanami wasn't even sure how he was supposed to react, even if he did his best to appear thoroughly unaffected to anyone so much as glancing in his direction. ❝I hope you managed to sleep well last night.❞

hi do you have any tips for people just joining tumblr? people on a /lgbt/ discord say it's where they're moving but I've never used it. is there like a 'introduce yourself' place or something
you’re gonna want to lean into an inscrutable gimmick that alienates everyone and acts as a funhouse mirror distortion of your personality whilst prompting 2,000 randos to send you asks that aren’t funny

@caemthe said (inbox):
It had started as a simple mission to investigate some ruins from a hidden research facility near the borders of Huanglong. The group dispatched for it was mostly patrollers, and a few mercenaries, mostly as a precaution in case TD had gathered there. It was supposed to be a simple mission, after all. Except that no one returned, and communication was cut. It went on like that for nearly 12h until a message was finally received. It was a weakened and fearful voice that said: ‘Please, someone save us.’ And that was the end of it. Communication couldn’t be reestablished after that. Once reinforcements were sent to the location, it soon became clear why it wasn’t going to be an easy rescue mission. Most of the floor had collapsed, revealing an underground facility that was barely hanging by a thread. Not just anyone would be able to get down there. On top of that, there were strange readings that made it impossible to guess what dangers lied ahead, and a strange level of static electricity coming from the underground facility. Jiyan felt responsible, so he said he would be going down. He expected to handle the rescue mission alone, but he couldn’t say he was surprised when he saw the mercenary leader waiting at the location. He knew that Calcharo always looked after his people. “The last and only message was received 3 hours ago. There should be at least a few survivors in the worst case scenario.”  Between the two of them, it should be a quick affair, but Jiyan could sense that something wasn’t right. But… ‘Please, someone save us.’ He would never leave anyone behind.
THE MISSION HE HAD dispatched some of his Hounds on had seemed simple enough. They were to aid the Midnight Rangers in their patrol and serve as extra protection just in case things intensified. Whenever TD were involved, one could never be certain how a situation might unravel. Thus, it had been wise of Jiyan to ask for his aid in the off chance that there might be trouble. However, what he had thought would be the case, turned out to be the opposite. Filled in on what had happened, it took no convincing for him to involve himself. Although his Hounds had volunteered to go with him, he refused to allow them to involve themselves when this was his failure to handle. The only thing he allowed from them, was to serve as backup in case the Midnight Rangers needed them. Going inside, though…that was up to him.
Tumblr media
Calcharo would put no other lives in danger when just his would suffice (it was easier looking after himself than multiple people anyway). Besides, Jiyan, no doubt, was already on his way to the location the distress signal had disappeared. And so, he waited. Arms crossed over his chest, he peered down that exposed underground facility, mind mulling over all the potential dangers that might be lying in wait. He wasn’t even sure if the one who sent that distress signal was still alive…or if anyone in that group was considering how long ago that last message had been. Regardless of this fact, he would see for himself what their end was…and bring back the dog tags of his men if that was what it all came down to.
❝You’re here.❞ Without turning to look at Jiyan, he had already known that they were present. Their footfalls, long since memorized. Turning away from sight beneath him, icy gaze came to fall upon the General’s features, his expression as solemn as his own. ❝Be prepared for whatever we encounter. I know you can sense that something isn’t quite right about this situation.❞ It was instinct that came from having to make quick decisions – of having to look five steps ahead of everyone else.

Jiyan usually spent his days off working, but it was the weekend after valentine's day and he had agreed to meet with Calcharo. There was something they wished to show him, but failed to provide him any clues. They had told him to rest and take it easy, but how was he supposed to do that when his free time was occupied by thoughts of the man and what they had planned. It was almost unfair, and he wished to tell them that but, doing such, would let the mercenary know that he couldn't stop thinking of them this, which would amuse them greatly. And he couldn't have that, could he? "So, about the thing you wished to show me..."
Tumblr media
CALCHARO HADN’T BEEN TOO busy that day, surprisingly. Things had been slow, which was something he was quite grateful for. Aside from the usual patrols, nothing out of the ordinary had happened, with the afternoon, thus far, proving to be quite peaceful. Mercenaries might not had thrived in such times, but to say that they were not pleased to have a breather from normal business would be an understatement. Even they needed those days without blood, sweat, and exhaustion clinging to their skin. Sword polished, gear checked as it was each and every moment before the sun rose in the sky, he had been prepared to set out when he paused, taken aback by a visit he had not expected. For a moment, Calcharo stood there, dumbfounded, almost as if his brain was trying to make sense of the image of a certain familiar face standing before him.
     What was he doing here?
❝You normally call before your visits. Feeling antsy?❞ That was often the usual routine, and as such, he was a bit thrown off as he stared, brows giving just the smallest hint of a furrow. What was he supposed to do? He had thought to meet with Jiyan in a…specific location…but that all hinged on him calling first. Now, he had to figure out how to change his plans, an easy enough feat when it came to last second changes during a mission, another story when it came to…this. Glancing off to the side, his mind worked quickly. He could salvage this. Unexpected it may be, but the life of a mercenary was filled to the brim with the unexpected. ❝I will need you to wait here for a bit while I get a few things in order. If that is not an issue, you can wait in my office, or walk around and talk to the others. Whatever it is you desire to do to pass the time. Give me…❞ he paused, eyes narrowing in thought for a couple seconds, ❝an hour.❞
     That should suffice.

The warning Jiyan received from the Black Shores had been an odd one. A tacet field on the outskirts of Jinzhou was showing signs of irregular activity, but the TD outbreak that should've followed never occurred or, if it did, it was immediately dealt with. A team of outriders was soon dispatched to assess the situation, but all they found were fading echoes. The people from the nearest village were happy to talk about the mysterious resonator who dealt with the TD outbreak and saved a group of kids from what would've been a certain death. Apparently, the 'nameless hero' was a tall and intimidating-looking man with long, straight hair from the New Federation. Upon hearing the outriders' report, there was only one person Jiyan could think of. But it was odd, as the Ghost Hounds had always been fast and transparent when it came to reporting back to the Midnight Rangers. Probably because it wasn't Calcharo's doing, but the general didn't know that yet. On his next conversation with the mercenary, he waited for them to address the event but, when it was clear they had no intention of doing so, he spoke up. "Many lives would've been lost if not for your quick action on the TD outbreak from a few days ago. I'll admit I find it surprising you haven't brought it up yet, but I understand you must have your reasons. That aside, I heard you left quite the lasting impression on the children you saved. They all want to grow up as fast as possible to be able to wield a broadblade now."
Tumblr media
A THIN BROW ROSE, Jiyan’s words akin to hearing some foreign language he couldn’t understand. ❝…What are you talking about?❞ Calcharo had heard about the TD outbreak that Jiyan spoke of, but he had assumed that it had been handled rather promptly since he hadn’t been contacted by the general, nor by any of his Hounds that might have been close to the area. Minor outbreaks could be handled quickly and promptly compared to the onslaught that had fallen upon Huanglong when the Threnodian was about to awake from their slumber, and though they could certainly be dangerous if not dealt with in a certain span of time, one did not need to rush to the location unless the outbreak had been near others…
In this case, some children had been unlucky enough to be present when this transpired judging by what he was just told. However, it was not him who came to their rescue. Calcharo had been far off in the Dim Forest, taking note that the air was cleaner now and the TD that lived nearby were much less aggressive than they had been before. The spores had been effectively dealt with, no doubt by the Rover, and now he could properly enjoy his time there amidst those bright, beautiful flowers in relative peace. Not once had he been contacted. ❝I know the location of that outbreak, and I was nowhere near there. So, I can only assume that you’re mistaken.❞ Who else could it have been that had appeared there? Especially one with long hair, a broadsword, and an ‘intimidating’ visage? The confusion was understandable, he supposed.
     He did fit the description…
❝Were there any other descriptors that you were given? Hair color? Stature?❞ Besides tall, of course. There wasn’t much to gleam from that when ‘tall’ could mean many things to someone. He lifted his hand, cupping his chin and narrowing his eyes slightly in thought, his gaze no longer on Jiyan as it fell upon the ground in front of him. What a most curious misunderstanding this all was…

" nanami. nanami. na-na-miii. did you miss me? "

❝THINGS HAVE BEEN RATHER quiet around here as of late. I had assumed you must have been off on a mission that required your full attention.❞ Had he missed Gojo’s general presence? Maybe a little. A teeny tiny bit. Would he admit that? Of course not. None in their right mind would ever so much as attempt to heighten that man’s already mountainous ego with words like, 'I might have missed you a little'. If Nanami gave away his thoughts, he would no longer know peace. ❝Your students will be glad to see you back.❞ He took a sip of his tea, turning a page in his newspaper and slowly reading over the words on the page even if it wasn’t anything in particular he held an interest in. It was, more or less, just an attempt to appear nonchalant.

It's quiet in the living room, which is the first sign that Valentin is up to something. When clawed hands slip from beneath the shadows of the coffee table and onto Neuvillette's knees, what that 'something' is swiftly becomes apparent. Fingertips dragging slowly up slender legs, a pale cheek settles atop one, head canted to peer up at him from the corner of one shimmering violet-gold eye. The searching touch of his hands pauses at different junctures- one high on a thigh, the other curved, heavy and marble-cool, at the dip of his waist. "Iubit, you have been staring at your work without progress for nearly an hour. You are already distracted from it," this is the excuse he makes as the hand at his waist rubs gently, a slow, barely-there glide up and down. "Shall I help clear your head a bit?" The gaze that had been fixed on his face flickers briefly downward as lips part, tongue heavy across sharp teeth. "It has taken you this long already... a little longer will not hurt, hmmm?"
IT WAS EASY ENOUGH to know that Vali was nearby. He held a very specific ‘presence’ that you had to have sharp senses to notice, but Neuvillette didn’t so much as give the other a glance. He merely acknowledged that they were there as was usually the case when his mind was glued on a specific task. Considering how quiet it was, no doubt the Strigoi would soon sprawl across his lap like some feline, attempting to drag his attention to them rather than the documents that still needed to be looked over and deciphered. A case was approaching, and there was so much evidence, eye witness accounts, so on and so forth, that needed to be examined until a full picture was given. What Neuvillette assumed would happen, and what did happen, were not the same thing. Rather than fall into their usual patterns of behavior, this was much more…distracting. The touch to his thighs had him tensing, a small, and sharp inhale given as bright eyes shifted away from what he had been reading, to linger upon the only other culprit. Everything about what they were doing was so purposeful.
     Honestly…
Tumblr media
The look they gave him, golden eyes gleaming and voice akin to a purr, would have ensnared anyone else. They might have mulled over what was said, torn between what pleasure it was clear that Vali would offer, or the droll task in front of them. It was easy enough to know which one most would choose. Neuvillette, though, was not most. Despite this not being his office (blessedly Vali came to realize that he would always constantly say no to their flirtations in a place of work), he was still ‘on the clock’, so to speak. There would be no seducing him away from the task before him until he finished everything he needed. ❝An open window and a cup of tea would do wonders for clearing my head, I believe. If you could do these things for me, I would be quite appreciative.❞ Reaching down, he stroked Vali’s hair, a small smile lingering upon his lips. ❝Can you do this, Valentin? It would do wonders for me.❞

@caemthe said (inbox):
[ conall ] He showed up to the Ghost Hounds headquarters about an hour later than he said he would, but that still was quite early for the man who never showed up on time. He could sense the hostility in the air, his amusement only becoming more visible the more he walked by mercenaries glaring daggers at him and cursing under their breath. Then, rather than wait for one of the mercenaries to let him in the meeting room, he simply kicked the door open, and… "…" The leader of the Red Dew blinked a few times upon seeing a hologram of Jinhou's war general. “General, it's good to see you again. I hope the flowers were to your liking,” he said in a somewhat cordial tone. The conversation that followed was a brief one, with Jiyan bringing up the tacet field incident and how he figured out that it was Conall who saved those kids. "It was nothing, I just happened to be nearby." That was true, at least. Then, Jiyan apologized for taking Calcharo and Conall's time and hang up, assuming that he had been talking for so long that he ended up delaying a meeting between the two men. Silence reigned for a few seconds after the connection was cut. Conall was the one to 'break the ice' once he invited himself to take a seat. “That pretty thing looks better suited to be warming someone's bed than commanding an army. Considering how young he is, I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s how he ascended through the ranks, but he was chosen by the Sentinel itself, wasn't he? Quite the smart cookie he turned out to be.” Despite his crude words, his intention wasn't to insult the general. In fact, he just acknowledged what most would think seeing a young and pretty face in a position of power, and praised the general's skill. "Anyway, I noticed Jiyan isn't the only sweet thing around here. You guys really upgraded from the Lawless Zone, I even saw some supplies with the logo of the Midnight Rangers. But I suppose you're not going to tell me if that's the only sweet thing you got from that guy, hm?"
Tumblr media
CALCHARO HADN’T EXPECTED ANY visitors today, though one couldn’t really call Conall a visitor. If anything, he was an unwanted roach scurrying about his base as if he had always belonged there. His eyes narrowed, far more frigid than they tended to be as his attention was wrestled away from his conversation with the general. So, it was him who sent those flowers… He had hoped to get information from Aalto, but for whatever reason, that man had been difficult to contact. An oddity when Aalto was often always available. He was beginning to wonder if he was purposely kept from being able to speak to the information broker. ❝I see. How kind of him.❞ There was no warmth in his tone, his words spoken as if reciting mere fact more than offering praise. Jiyan, probably assuming that this meeting had been put together, opted to hang up and leave just the two men to their discussion. A good choice, though Calcharo knew for a fact that Conall wouldn’t say anything in Jiyan’s presence that might potentially jeopardize what relationship he was hoping to establish. Just as the other hung up, it was then that the larger man decided to break the quiet.
     Expected words.
Whether that was bait, or merely how Conall spoke, he didn’t care. He wouldn’t bite. After all, vulgarity was the easiest way to ignite someone’s temper, this more so, when the person at the end of it was one that was respected. It was a boring method, an easy one to spot a thousand miles away (even knowing this logically, it still made him want to slice that head off those shoulders and send it back in a box). ❝Why are you here, Conall? I bet Old Man Conchobar wanted you to play at ambassador for the family and establish a connection. This place is a perfect opportunity to get what you want, after all. All you need to do is play nice, pretend to care, and then you’ll have your foot right in the doorway.❞ He didn’t bother to acknowledge anything else that was said, smacking away that ‘unimportant’ topic and moving on to one that did interest him. ❝Though…I do wonder why you’d come and see me in particular when I doubt I’m a part of whatever scheming is going on.❞
