Zora Salazar character analysis

Takin a bitta insperation from this https://www.tumblr.com/ramblings-from-the-ether/715682790638796800/bloodsoaked-closure-how-to-break-zora-the-fanfic post. I’m not gonna go in the same direction as they did, but I’m def using their analysis for help with this.

This started with me wondering, what could break Zora’s spirit? She’s such a fighter, so how could you take away that energy of her’s? Let’s begin.

Before Zora joined Bliss Ocean, in Extended Great at Cowboy, I got the impression she just had no real drive and wasn’t happy, nor did she really care about anything besides bounty hunting. It was the line “finally knows why she is fighting” that especially made me think this. Bliss Ocean gave her an actual goal, something to hope for and achieve. Bliss Ocean also gave her her friends as well. It isn’t just a job, it’s integral to who she is as a person. She needs Bliss Ocean. To Zora, her motivations are key to her identity.

If Zora had a redemption arc and left bliss ocean, or for whatever reason she’s just not apart of the organization anymore, I think it would take a big toll on her. Even if she became a good person, Bliss Ocean was still a huge part of her life. It made her happy. Without it, who is she? What left does she have? Does she just go back to nothing but bounty hunts, or look for something new to motivate her?

Zora is overwhelming powerful. She has the power to fight and kill almost anyone if she wanted. So what if she was faced with something she CAN’T fight? Be it sickness, the forces of nature, being trapped, etc. For something like this, she’d try waiting it out and bearing it until she got a chance to help herself. But what if it didn’t? Whatever unfightable force she’s facing won’t give in.

I feel that, Zora, left without anything to push her, and stuck with something she can’t fight off, would still try. At her core, Zora is a survivor. She kept going, even after she lost her parents and childhood, she still kept going. She’s going to fight and thrash and bite, even to her detriment, until she can’t fight anymore. Eventually, she would be faced with the fact she can’t win. She can’t fight it, she can’t run, she can’t survive. That would break her.

A dog can’t fight against the post forever. She’s Zora Salazar, the phantom drifter, highest bounty there is, and no matter what, she’s still just a person, and eventually, she’ll meet her limits.

Very few things in this life put Zora on edge by mere presence--and this place, as strange as it is, doesn’t feel quite right to her. Books piled so high she had to squint to see the tippy-top of, it became pretty clear that whoever was in charge didn’t quite care for the decimal system.

Her head tilts to one side as she picks up some weird noise above her. Huh. Footsteps? Well, she figured she wasn’t alone, someone had to have made this mess.

“Either that or shit’s haunted...” The cowgirl murmurs to herself. She can’t exactly dial down ghosts...

“Hmmm, Ah’ feel like Ah’ should do some fucked up shit t’ git in on all ‘dis.”

Hey Zora? Why do you hate Epithets so much anyway? You seem to really like yours. Did something happen because of an Epithet?

"Do Ah' really gotta repeat m'self? Ah' thought everyone an' their mother knew this already." Ah, well, guess there WERE a few that literally live under rocks. She sighs, spinning her pistol--a silent threat she'll make good on at any second.

"Picture this, if ya will--say yew've gone yer whole life aimed towards bein' good at one thang, or several thangs. You put in th' practice, th' hours, th' blood, sweat an' tears t' git yerself at a level you could be proud of. Yew sink so much tahm an' effort intew something that ya might as well say it's a part of yew--"

"An' then some JACKHOLE comes along who can just MAGIC up what took YEW ages t' master, an' suddenly everything you've ever worked for goes DOWN th' drain cuz people are so wrapped up about bein' SPECIAL that they choose t' the easy way out instead of REAL FUCKIN' SKILL. That's th' sort of unfair world Ah' live in. Wai even bother with learnin' anythin' worth of value when you can just MAGIC it up? Everyone's so hyped up on Epithets an' how they're all 'cool' an' 'amazin' that they've forgotten what it's like t' actually DO THANGS FER THEMSELVES."

It's a marvel really, that Cale hadn't heard her coming whatsoever. By this point he was rather adept at picking up being tailed, it comes with the territory and all, but Zora?

She might as well have been a phantom, manifesting from the shadows in an almost inhuman way. The Light-bot staggers slightly at the hand meeting his back, and the unfamiliar drawl that accompanies it.

Oh god is she looking for Rock? Do they work together? This could be really bad. Shit shit shit--

"...uh..." he almost contemplates trying to impersonate his twin, but anyone with a keen eye would notice the missing face scar and seam lines in a heartbeat.

Is it too late to run like a frightened rabbit?

It’s a moment that seems to stretch on for longer than what it really was--about half a minute or so. Yet as those seconds elongated for what seemed like ages, not once did Zora remove her hand from where she had placed it on him.

She knew immediately that this wasn’t Rock, even without the tell-tale seamlines and scars. Just a few years younger than what she had sensed for the General himself, though she never expected for her Epithet to come in handy in such a passive little way like this.

Well, this just got a whooooole lot more interesting.

“Whoops! Ha, ain’t this awkward...” And much like the sun breaking through a heavy shower of rain, her looming presence fades as she backs off...walking backwards so that she’s in FRONT of Cale instead. “Sorry ‘bout that, bud! Mistook ya fer someone else fer a tick there. Dead ringer, even!”

And what’s the story behind that, she wonders to herself. Surely there ain’t a dozen of like-faced robots on these neon streets, are there? That would be real problematic...

“Pfft, what, did Ah’ scare ya? C’mon, Ah’ wasn’t even tryin’ all that hard...”

ya think maybe some of the people you hunt down don’t actually deserve it though? do you do background checks on bounties to make sure some funny business isn’t goin on in the background and the bounty wasn’t simply framed?
