linhardt approaches the other student with a half-eaten sweet bun and a full mouth. he lights up instantly to see sylvain and picks up his already abnormally chipper pace to meet him.
they chew, swallow, and then: "hello, sylvain. i was wondering if you would be interested in allowing me a swing or stab of the lance of ruin? it's for research and before you ask - i have no intentions on transforming into a demonic beast. my current hypothesis holds that my crest will protect me, even though it's of a different manner.
"i can make a trade if you'd prefer. i have..."
he looks down at his hand - at his half eaten sweet bun. well, not that. "plenty of rare tomes in my room. and other stuff."
“Uh…what?”
Linhardt had always been an oddball in Sylvain’s eyes. A harmless one, more often than not napping under some tree, maybe roaming the library when Sylvain went there, be it to hide from a girl or to fetch books for himself. Other times he’d spot the mage walking alongside their fellow Black Eagles here and there, not too different from his own classmates- but he knew how much the eagle seemed to fixate on crests. It was admirable, as he had to admit even he had some curiosities in regards to crests and their powers despite his mixed feelings about their role in society- there was an inherent mystery about their power, how they interacted with relics, how they were passed down through bloodlines and so on.
The subject was, indeed, extremely interesting. It was just that Sylvain wasn’t nearly as interested in it as Linhardt was- they deserved a prize for that alone. ”Excuse me, a stab? You want me to stab you with it? Look, I know you have that one crest that gives you powerful healing skills, but I’d rather not find out about its abilities by poking you with a blade like you’re a piece of cheese…” The ginger scratched the back of his head, still taken aback by the sudden approach.
“I mean, I can let you take a look at it, though. No problem. Just be careful since…you know, Hero’s Relic and all.” The promise of rare tomes was admittedly tantalizing- though he had to take care so as to not let his nerdy side show. Better than the half-eaten bun, he’d pass on that one. “And no stabbing, alright? I don’t wanna get in trouble if you get some gnarly injury from it!”
