The shot roared as it pierced the sky grazing Tohru's side slicing clean through her form and durable skin leaving a shallow narrow slash along her form with the beam just missing her ample flesh.

"That... that could have..." Tohru paused her life practically flashing before her eyes as she watched Noel fall to one knee the tip of her weapon smoking before she too collapsed holding her side which stung with a small pain from her minor wound.

Before the fight could continue a golden light enveloped the two the buildings returning to their prestine condition as the fire around the pair was put out.

"My, my! Have you gotten rusty Tohru? A little human giving you this much trouble?" A silky smooth voice rang out as Lucoa appeared her magic restoring their surroundings as the goddess swayed her hips. "Just teasing of course luv! These wing-bing witches are tough or so I've heard." Lucoa chuckled while Noel looked on terrified.

"But that little toy gun won't work on me." Lucoa said her voice shaking Noel to her core the witch finding herself helpless In the goddess' presence.

"What's happening.... I-I I can't move... my breath it's hard to..." Noel gasped her body trembling from the preasure of Lucoa's aura weighing down on her. In her exhausted state she quickly blacked out with the busty woman standing over her.

"Well what to do with the little trouble maker? I must say I knew Witches and Wizards fought dragons but I'd never seen one myself. So exciting!" Lucoa grinned rocking her plump hips back and forth before a sudden shot skimming past her face made her turn around nonchalantly unphased by the burst of energy.

"Forgive my subordinate, miss. She wasn't aware you two weren't our type of dragons." A man with a thick accent spoke in a laid back attitude as he appeared from one of the nearby buildings his eyes on Noel as he whistled prompting a small broom shaped dragon to speed past Lucoa and retrieve the unconscious witch. "Sigh... I hope you can put this behind us, she meant no ill will. Just an excited rookie who wanted to do her part." He explained as the tiny drake flew off with Noel entering a nearby phone booth before vanishing.

"Two sorcerers in a day? My oh my it really is a small world." Lucoa chuckled making no attempt to stop the fleeing Noel while Tohru simply watched on the sidelines confused.

"I just wanted some groceries... and here I go getting roped up in THIS! Kobayashi isn't gonna be happy that I'm late... but more importantly why are those two so calm yet I feel like I could slice the tension in the air with a knife... atleast this mess seems to be over. Dumb Elma this all her fault somehow..." Tohru grumbled rubbing her side as she got to her feet.

"I hope she wasn't too much trouble for you ladies. I'm gonna be up to my neck in paperwork... anyways we'll send compensation for the damages." The stranger sighed sounding more incovienced than anything as he tiped his hat and walked off leaving Lucoa with a seemingly satisfied look on her face.

Damn, Quetz was so immobile she wasn't even able to be fit on the muse list due to her required font size being too large. What a terrible fate~

Yuki didn't tend to celebrate his birthday. His family had never been particularly supportive of it growing up -- his mother didn't seem to care much, nor did Ayame go out of his way -- and the time he'd spent with Akito blended together. He had no way to keep track of the days, to know how much time had passed while he was at the Sohma estate. Even after he'd made his escape, he didn't see much reason in celebrating himself on the day. It just felt… unnecessary? He was another year older. There wasn't much reason to draw attention to it. The most he'd ask for was a quiet day.

There were a few little surprises scattered around that happened to find themselves in his eye line… Small gifts and such left behind by someone. It was a little disconcerting, considering he could feel multiple sets of eyes watching him from seemingly nowhere as he hesitantly picked up small items -- flowers, chocolates, trinkets (why did a few of them feel almost romantic?). But by the day's end, he was prepared to head back home and keep to himself the remainder of the evening.

It was along the walk home together that Tohru addressed him. Not that it had been her first birthday wish of the day! She'd made sure to say it the moment she'd seen him this morning. But now was their first opportunity to chat alone today, since Kyo had skulked off to do something or other.

“You're thankful I was born today?” he repeated, a sheepish confusion evident in his tone. “Would it have been different if I was born on another day? Is September 2nd a special day for you?” He was aware this was a mere deflection, as he wasn't sure how to so directly voice his thoughts about her birthday wish. He… wasn't used to receiving them.

He dropped his gaze to the stone stairs as they began up them. “But… thank you, Honda-san. I wouldn't expect anyone else to remember the date.” He certainly didn't make a show of it himself. It was just another day of classes for him. “I guess I can't be too surprised that you would. You're more than thoughtful enough,” he mused to himself. “I hope you haven't worried too much about it…” There was no need to throw together a party for him, or to present him with a gift of any kind. No, in her case, “Being able to spend time with you like this today is more than enough for me.”

Started watching Fruits Basket for the first time today. The 2019 dubbed version b/c I wanna watch it on a tv & Hulu doesn't have the subbed version. This dub version sounds about as good as the dub of Princess Tutu, which I adore. Also, Tohru Honda is an empathetic sweetheart & I don't want her to suffer anymore than she already has. Also, also. I wasn't sure why this anime is called Fruits Basket until I heard the plum metaphor in episode 3. I bet Tohru comes up with a fruit metaphor for all the zodiac folks she ends up meeting & unites them all somehow.

"I couldn't even dent her. If I hadn't used a barrier at the last moment... I may have been incinerated." Noel panted her clothes singed by the flames of the mighty dragon before her. "This power is like that of a Märchen.... could she be...?" Noel groaned, rising to her feet and dusting herself off.

"Still standing huh? Well this next one will blow you off the face of the EARTH!" Tohru yelled readying another blast before Noel had time to prepare herself.

"This fight won't end well for either of us... restraining her isn't an option I'll have to subdue her with force. Forgive me this won't be pleasant..." Noel said readying her witchkit and aiming at Tohru's stomach. The world seemed to pause as the tip of her weapon glowed. "Anti-Dragon Murder Gun: Absolute dragon SHATTER." Her voice whispered as a spark fired from the muzzle of her weapon.

"Wha-"

Tohru, the hell has Kobayashi been feeding you? You look like a wall of meat-

"Look, it ain't my fault I'm eating good.~ My beloved, darling, wonderful, adorable, AMAZING Ms. Kobayashi lets me eat whatever I want, as long as I make her enough food as well!~ So my dragon appetite insists I indulge...And hey, at least I'm not immobile like Quetz."

Local hijinks about how Tohru goes to the grocery store and knocks everything off the shelves into her cart because her gut and hips keep bumping everything off them.

Then oops, she brought it all home for a skinny Koayashi to eat-

Tohru, coming home with a giant tarp, needing to take Kobayashi’s measurements so she can be a good maid and make Kobayashi’s clothes for her since she’s way too big for normal clothes.

Kobayashi, huffing as she tries to get out of bed, too heavy to do so on her own, so Tohru enchants her to feel like she’s skinny again, which makes her bump into the walls and get stuck in doorframes all day long because it takes a lot of getting used to.

Lucoa, terrorizing everyone with her appetite-

So I started the dub of Fruits Basket again.

Forgetting, of course, that the primary theme is about life changing and having to be okay with letting go of the past even though the future is uncertain.

More importantly, forgetting that one of the main threads of this throughout the series is Tohru's grief (and guilt) over her mother's death.

....

Well, you know what, my therapist told me to engage with grief as homework the past couple of weeks, so between this and starting Anohana again I THINK IT COUNTS.

"let's see if we can find your owners, if not, you can stay with me until we do." she says standing up and turning around to the nearest person she saw. "excuse me, by any chance, is this your dog? or have you seen someone looking for a lost dog?"
