Kpop Group BTS Dodges the Draft--But What About the Others?

Can pop culture shape our laws? Perhaps, but in South Korea, popular boy band group BTS recently dodged the country’s military draft due to a last minute law change, allowing them to delay their service by a few years. This law is a huge deal in South Korea, where the law states that every male citizen must serve roughly 20 months once he turns 28. Now, the oldest member has until he turns thirty (along with the rest of his bandmates) to continue to tour and further spead the “elevated global reputation” that BTS has given Korea. But what happens to the other Kpop stars, and what does this say about the draft in Korea? How have the laws defined some of the most famous men and women in the world?

On December 1st, fans of the Kpop group BTS breathed a sigh of relief. The Korean pop group was released from their compulsory military service, making sure that they would not be drafted into the Korean military right away, and would be allowed to delay it due to their contributions to the nation’s “elevated global reputation” through their art and worldwide musical popularity. This new law, sometimes called the “BTS Law'' saved member Kim Seok-jin from his enlistement into the military. As soon as he turned 28, he would have to enroll for about 20 months. Now, as the oldest member of BTS, he and the rest of the pop group can push it off until they turn 30, setting precedent for the rest of the band.[1]

This was huge news for fans of the immensely popular musical group, because if the members would be drafted, they would be losing almost all members of the group for an extended period of time in the next few years. The draft, a huge part of life for men in South Korea has loomed hard over the Kpop industry, and its impacts can be felt in American and beyond.

Just to give some perspective, Kpop is huge. The first Kpop convention, KCon was held in the USA for the first time in 2012. In California, a few hundred people and curious bystanders watched as devotees of Korean pop music gathered and celebrated their love for the music, tradingmechanisde and memorabilia. By 2018, Kcon had spanned two coasts and had over 125,000 people in attendance combined between both conventions.[2] And that was only just the beginning.

Kpop fans are loud and powerful. In 2017, they broke Justin Beiber’s six year streak of winning the fan-voted award of “Top Social Artist” from the Billboard Music Awards by voting for BTS, giving the group the award instead. The hashtag #BTSBBMAs was tweeted over 300 million times worldwide.[3] It is estimated that BTS alone contributed roughly 4.65 billion to the South Korean economy alone, estimated to have greeted roughly 8,000 new jobs.[4]

With the draft looming over the head of the popular Korean boy band, fans worldwide were constantly concerned and in limbo: what would happen if BTS was drafted and had to stop making music for a long period of time? The fans were right to be concerned. It had happened before.

Losing members of popular groups to the draft is something that is semi-common in the Kpop world. With many groups having young members, it is not uncommon for groups to lose and gain members due to the draft. However, Kpop groups typically have much more members than many American bands, so this system is slightly different. For example, one of the largest groups, Neo-Culture Technology, has 23 members.[5] In 2017, four members of the group EXO had to enroll, to the agony of fans around the globe.[6] Furthermore, the timeline of the draft varies from case to case and person to person, meaning that no one really knows when they will return, making planning and promotion difficult. [7] This was a problem already seen in Kpop, but it had never been seen on the scale with a group as vastly popular as BTS before.

Lucky for BTS and their army of fans, Korean ruling party member Noh Woong-rae pushed for laws on behalf of the group, saying that they had served the country in other ways outside of the military, some even agreeing saying that many South Koreans mention BTS when travelling to explain where they came from.[8]

But what would happen if a member of BTS, or any Korean citizen did not want to be drafted? What would happen if they didn’t? Well, South Korea has imprisoned more conscientious objectors than any other country. [9] Noth and South Korea are still technically at war, making the draft all the more important to the country and their government. South Korea’s Military Service Act states that there is a penalty of three years in prison for those who refuse the draft without “justifiable” reasons (such as injuries or mental health, not religon.) Many of these objectos are religious, and they are forced to work in prison for the period of their prison sentence. They are exempt fromguard and prisoner-escort duty, which involves carrying guns and other weaponds. However, they still live with eachother, and the system of the building and their duties is designed to mimic barracks. [10]

The laws in South Korea are still being changed, and sadly many of the “idols” (a world for Kpop stars) will still have to serve their time in the military if they were already enrolled while the law was past. However, one will have to wait and look to the future to examine the changing face of the draft in South Korea, and how pop culture will shape the laws and change the output of one of the largest drafts in the world.

Her name was Cecilia Helena Payne-Gaposchkin, born May 10, 1900 in Britain.

On May 29, 1919, exactly a century ago, Arthur Eddington and Frank Dyson took on the formidable task of organizing an expedition to the west coast of Africa and Brazil to observe and photograph the stars near a solar eclipse as a test of Einstein’s general theory of relativity. On his return, Arthur Eddington gave a lecture on his trip.

Cecilia was reading botany, physics and chemistry at Cambridge and her life changed after she attended this lecture.

She said ‘The result was a complete transformation of my world picture. […] My world had been so shaken that I experienced something very like a nervous breakdown.’

She completed her studies but was not awarded a degree. This was after all the 1900s and Cambridge did not grant degrees to women.

She decided to move to the US after getting a fellowship at the Harvard College Observatory and it was there that she wrote her thesis concluding that helium and particularly hydrogen were vastly more abundant in stars, including the Sun.

Her dissertation was reviewed by astronomer Henry Norris Russell, who stood by the theories of American physicist Henry Rowland, and the current consensus at that time, which stated that the elemental composition of the Sun and the Earth were similar. Russell discouraged her from sticking to her conclusions. As a result, she described her discovery as “spurious”. It wasn’t until a few years later that Otto Struve, another astronomer, derived the same results but by different means. He described her work as “the most brilliant PhD thesis ever written in astronomy”. When he published his findings in 1929, he did acknowledge her discovery but as is the case with many women at that time, he is often credited for the conclusions she reached.

Cecilia continued to work at Harvard, studying high luminosity and variable stars with here date being used to determine stellar evolution. She also wrote several books but when she began her career, women were barred from being professors at Harvard, so she had to work at low paid research jobs.

She was finally given the title of Astronomer due to the efforts of the Director of the Harvard College Observatory Harlow Shapely, who had been the reason for her fellowship and had encouraged her to write her thesis. She became a full professor in 1956 and was the first woman to head a department at Harvard when she became the Chair of the Department of Astronomy. She died on December 7, 1979.

Walking through the Ministry with Drago perched on your shoulder garners a little more attention than you're comfortable with, so before leaving the building you make sure to don your cloak and wait until the little beast crawls into the hood to hide.

Flooing from the Ministry to a place called the Leaky Cauldron is an average trip, but you have to take a moment to soothe Drago who's trilling from the safety of your hood.

"There, there," you coo as you reach over your shoulder. Drago's little head rubs up against your finger before playfully nipping you. "I forgot to warn you. I'm sorry."

He seems to chirp in response, accepting your apology and then you make your way to the bartender who, after you've shown him your wizardry passport and approval stamp from the Ministry, lets you in through an alley wall which opens up to Diagon Alley. Diagon Alley is vastly different from any American magical shopping center you've been to, but it's a good different. Where America has opted to adapt to modern times, England seems a bit stuck in the traditional ways.

Having already exchanged your money with the MACUSA before port-keying out, you're allowed to browse the alley before making your way to Weasley Wizard Wheezes. WWW is an eyesore of a building, but it's fun. It's meant to draw attention and the animatronics of one of their creators helps even more.

You smile at the variety of products on display through the window and chuckle as you push your way inside. It's a bit chaotic with the excitement of all the patrons, as well as all the flying objects and the miniature exploding fireworks. It's more than a little crowded, but that just adds to the thrill of browsing.

Walking up to a box where at least the top foot of it is made of plexiglass, you smile down at the pink and purple little creatures that the box says are called Pygmy Puffs. What seem like tiny gerbils with a fur problem hop around, all of them trilling and thriving under the attention of the witches and wizards cooing over them.

"Those make great pets, love." The voice is right over your shoulder and you tense momentarily until the owner of said voice walks forward to stand by your side. "Noisy little buggers, but definitely worth it. Or so my sister says."

The red haired individual is wearing magenta robes and a name tag that that reads Fred. You grin at him before looking back at the puffs. "They're really cute, but I have my hands full at the moment. Can't really take on another pet."

"That's quite the accent? American?"

"Bingo." Giving Fred your attention once more, you say, "Some of your products made it into my brother's home, courtesy of his children who have pen pals over here, and I needed to see this place for myself. Made a vacation of it and everything."

"Really?" His eyes light up and his hand flies up to his heart in appreciation. "An entire trip across seas just to see what my twin and I made up? I like you."

"Ooh, so you're Weasley? Good job, man," you tell him while gesturing around his place. He beams in response. "Can you help me out then? I'm actually looking for a few things in particular."

"Anything for you, my lovely American." As he offers you his elbow, you hook your arm through his with a laugh. You feel Drago shift and his little claws pinch the back of your neck, and you know he's finally gotten curious enough to take in his surroundings. "Uh, love? Don't scream, but I think you have a stowaway in your hood."

Sheepishly chuckling, you release Fred and take a step back. "Oh. About that... are pets allowed in here? If not, I can go find a room somewhere and drop him off."

Fred's eyebrows raise. "You keep your pet in your hood?"

"Drago usually rides on my shoulder, but people at the Ministry were staring. I felt self-conscious so I told him to hop on in."

"Drago?" His brow furrows. "That sounds like something you'd name a-" He trails off, eyes widening over your shoulder. "Dragon," he gulps. "Merlin's beard, woman. You have a pet dragon?!"

"Yes? I-If he's not welcome, it's no problem. I can-"

"Wait! No, it's fine," Fred's quick to assure you. "Is he- can I-"

"Pet him?" You chuckle, your shoulders slumping in relief. "Yeah." Clicking you tongue then, you pull your hair to one side as Drago climbs up onto your shoulder. With his wings tucked back and head held up proudly, Drago trills a little tune.

"Hey, Freddie, have you seen- is that a bloody dragon?!"

Startled at the voice, Drago goes on the defense and hisses before blowing out a stream of smoke at the apparent twin of Fred who's gaping at your pet. You gasp and immediately lift your arm, you letting Drago climb towards your elbow. Then quickly scooping him up, you tuck him into the crook of your other elbow as if cradling a newborn baby. "There, there, Drago. I'm fine. No need to get mean."

By now there's a small crowd gathered around you, everyone whispering excitedly and pointing.

"He's perfectly legal," you say just loud enough for the eavesdroppers to hear. "I, uh, I have the papers to prove it. Things in America are different and your Minister signed off on me keeping him during my brief stay here."

"No, no. You're fine. Isn't she, Georgie?" Fred says. "Oi!" He then shouts at everyone crowding around. "Back to browsing or take your leave. There's nothing to see here!"

"You heard the less handsome twin," George shouts too. "Move it!"

Chuckling at their antics, you still feel a bit overwhelmed with the attention. Drago is starting to pick up on your anxiety and is becoming rather restless in your arms, so you direct him back under cover. "In the hood, Drago," you murmur near his head and let him nuzzle your nose. "Be a good boy and lay low. We'll be gone in a bit."

Chirping twice, Drago's claws dig into your cloak as he crawls his way up your chest and over your shoulder into the hood. But instead of completely being hidden from view, he rests his head on our shoulder and blinks his yellow eyes at the twins.

"Blimey," they sigh in unison, causing you to huff in amusement.

"Is he really your pet?" George asks.

"Yeah. Ever heard of guard dogs that no-majs keep? I think you call them muggles here?" They quickly nod. "Well witches and wizards in America have guard dragons," you tell them. "With a bit of no-maj science and our magic, they were able to genetically modify dragon eggs so the dragon inside wouldn't be as aggressive or wouldn't grow as large. When they hatch, they bond with the one who's intending to purchase them."

"What breed is he? And how large will he grow?" Fred asks in awe.

Smiling as you reach over your shoulder to run a finger over his head, you say, "Black Scale Red Tip. And he'll grow to be as large as a fully grown boar."

"Wicked," Fred then beams. "So listen, Georgie and I will help you with whatever it is you're looking for and as repayment, what say you drop by our flat for dinner?" At your widening eyes, he smirks but holds his hands up in mock surrender. "Nothing like that, love. Dinner between friends. I promise."

"Oh. Um, yeah. Okay."

"Great!" George claps his hands, eager to get started. "So what is it you're looking for exactly?"

"Well," you slowly grin as you reach into your pocket. "I actually have a list.

After purchasing a couple containers of bruise paste, several boxes of Weasley Wildfire Whiz-bangs, Patented Daydream Charms and Canary Creams, you make your way back to the Leaky where the barman Tom apparently also rented out rooms.

Just before seven you head back to WWW where they're cashing out the last remaining customers and closing up shop. The flat they live in is above the shop and with Drago tucked safely in your hood once more, you wait patiently by the stairs for them to finish up.

Then hanging out with the Weasley twins, while Drago happily pounces on the coffee table between the three of you, is as if you're hanging out with friends you've known for years. George fetches take-out from someplace they swear has the best food, and you feed Drago dragonette treats and little pieces of raw meat you had prepared since before you had left home.

After all the human food is consumed, the attention is once again all on Drago.

"Ignis." Drago rears his little head back before blowing a small stream of fire at his piece of meat and the twins sigh in awe. "The older he gets, the stronger our bond gets. He will also protect those he becomes familiar with."

"Shame you don't live 'round here," George muses. "I wouldn't mind this little menace flying around the shop."

Smiling, you watch as Fred reaches out to rub a finger up and down the side of Drago's neck. He trills happily and you snort, knowing full well that you're upcoming week in England is going to result in the little dragon being spoiled rotten.

Their floo suddenly activates, the green flames flaring brighter as yet another redhead is spilled from it's false warmth. "Boys, please tell me you got leftovers. Mum's driving me mental."

As the redhead pats off any soot, Drago chirps his confusion. The redhead freezes and glances up, his eyes widening upon sighting the dragon sitting on the coffee table.

"Bloody hell. What's going on here?!"

"Now, now, Charlie," Fred grins. "Y/N and her guard dragon Drago are our guests here. Watch the language, prat."

The stocky redhead with a few burns and scars littering his arms blinks owlishly. "I'm sorry, but did you say guard dragon?"

"Yep." George smirks. "Apparently the Americans are more barmy than we thought."

"Excuse me," you chuckle, taking mock offense. "Did you just call us crazy? I'd have gone with brilliant, thank you very much."

"Barmy is correct," the newcomer says. "This is a bloody dragon, not a house pet!"

"Relax, Charlie," Fred then says, trying to calm the situation down. "There's a bunch of muggle science and magic involved to prevent the dragon from being like their larger counterparts. Drago, here, will only grow to be the size of a boar."

That seems to knock some of the anger and fear from Charlie's sails, he sighing and moving further into the room. "So he's harmless then?"

"Eh," you shrug. "Right now, yes. But when he reaches his full maturity, he'll be a dragon to be reckoned with. I pity the idiot who tries to mess with me or invade my home when Drago is there."

"And owning him is actually legal?"

"One hundred percent." Charlie takes a seat on the floor and it looks as if he's itching to reach out and touch. "But to be fair, I'm making it sound like it's so easy to go out and purchase a dragon. It's really not. You can petition to purchase a dragon, but then there's a background check the government puts you through. And, if after hatching, the two of you don't bond then you can't take the dragon home. It'll go to someone else who can form a bond with him or her."

"Enough talking, you git. There's a bloody dragon in the middle of our flat," Fred sighs. "Play now, ask questions later."

George tosses another piece of meat onto the table. Drago hops up to it, his tiny talons clicking against the table as he impatiently waits for the command. "Ignis." George grins as the meat goes up in flames before the little creature gobbles it down.

"Are you familiar with dragons?" You ask Charlie since he can't take his eyes off yours.

He numbly nods before answering. "I work on the Dragon Reserve in Romania."

"Oh! So you're used to this then."

"Not really. Mother dragons are very protective. We can't take the chance to manhandle the dragonettes and getting our scent on them. We don't want the mum to sniff us out when we eventually have to get close to her again."

"That blows," you frown. "Place your hand, palm up, on the table and click your tongue."

"Why?"

"Just do it."

Charlie hesitantly does as he's told, he then clicking his tongue twice. Drago hops up to his hand, sniffing him curiously before tilting his head to the side as if sizing him up. Then sensing no ill will, he hops onto Charlie's hand and crawls up his arm until he's perched on the red head's shoulder with his tail wrapped behind his neck. "Uhhh.."

You laugh at his expression, torn between being wary and being in awe that he has a dragon on his shoulder. "It's his favorite place to be."

Charlie practically melts when Drago trills happily before rubbing his head against against the scruff on Charlie's cheek. "Marry me," he rumbles.

Fred and George erupt with laughter, and you roll your eyes. "I don't know about the women here, but my panties don't drop for a hot redhead snuggling my dragon, Mr. Weasley."

"Did you hear that, Georgie," Fred muses. "Our new friend thinks Charlie's hot."

"She's clearly mental," George huffs. "Everyone knows we're the most handsome Weasley's."

"And everyone knows you're also gits," Charlie says. "Bugger off."

"Oi! It's our flat and our friend," George grumbles. "You bugger off."

Rolling your eyes, you give a short shrill whistle. Drago perks up before taking flight, his miniature wings holding him up the short distance to your shoulders. "That's enough, boys. Fred, George, thank you for the company and dinner, but I really should be getting back to my room at the Leaky."

"Will we see you tomorrow?" Fred asks, he and his brothers immediately standing up as you do.

"I don't see why not," you answer honestly. "I've got a week's stay before I port-key out. I mainly came to see your shop, but if either of you are free and want to show me around.. I'll happily meet up with you."

"It's a date, love." Charlie smirks lazily and offers you his elbow. "Now come on. I'll walk you back to the Leaky. I reckon little Drago doesn't like apparition or the floo."

Fred and George watch as their brother and Y/N make their exit, the twins beaming all the while.

"What are the chances mum will give us all the credit for finally introducing Charlie to a decent bird?" Fred wonders.

"Chances are good.. unless Charlie runs off to America and confesses his undying love to the American and tries to buy his own dragon. Then she'll blame us and hex our bollocks off."

Fred looks to George and George looks to Fred. Slowly, but surely, their amusement vanishes.

"Merlin's balls, we're dead."

"So dead."

Fibromyalgia a lot better within 5 weeks!!

I was asked to share my Fibromyalgia story, so here it is:

I am a 53 year old woman. I have struggled with pain and discomfort for most of my life. As a child, I hated doing sport at school because it caused so much pain in my arms and legs. I could never understand that others enjoyed sport or physical exercise, while I was forever pulling muscles and experiencing pain for days after. I was told I was just unfit and should exercise more.

My mother took me to see different doctors and specialists. I struggled to explain to them the kind of pain I was experiencing, the fact that I would be fine one day and in agony the next, or how some days it would feel like my legs were jelly and my arms so weak that lifting them required tremendous effort. The doctors told my mother it was just “growing pains” and that it would eventually disappear. It never did. I learned to keep my mouth shut, grit my teeth and get on with my life.

At the age of 19 I joined the Police Force. Six months of hard-core basic training made me regret that decision, but I was determined to see it through, and I survived (barely). This was followed by 32 years of shift work, bad eating habits (junk food, eaten on the go) and extremely high stress levels.

Through all this I hardly ever went to a doctor, but then about 20 years ago, I was diagnosed with chronic major depression and put on all sorts of anti-depressants. I became a zombie. One day I decided I was tired of going through life in this state and I weaned myself off the meds.

Four years later, during a routine check-up, I was diagnosed with skin cancer on my face. I opted for surgery because I had no faith in chemo or radiation therapy. The surgeons removed the cancer and performed reconstructive surgery to my face. Two years later I underwent a spinal fusion in my neck after an MRI showed complete deterioration of the cushion between the 4th and 5th vertebrae. Four months later, I needed surgery again for a frozen shoulder. The following year, the ladies at my station all went for mammograms and mine showed a lump in the right breast. This was also surgically removed, but thankfully proved to be benign.

From this period, my aches and pains reached new levels. I started to really struggle when the “Brain Fog” kicked in, my balance went awry and my joints and muscles locked up as though they were in permanent spasms. I eventually turned to doctors again for help when I reached a stage where I felt I could no longer cope. After exhaustive specialist visits and a brain scan that showed extremely low seratonin levels, I was eventually diagnosed with Fibromyalgia six years ago. The specialist basically gave me a prescription for very strong pain meds and told me to come and see him again when (not if) the pain got worse. He also referred me to a psychiatrist.

I came out of the chemist one day with a large carrier bag full of pain meds, anti-depressants and more meds to cope with all the side-effects of the original meds. I looked at that bag and realised that even with all this stuff they were giving me, I still did not feel any better. To add insult to injury, the meds had caused a lot of weight gain, which just added to my problems.

My Mom had a saying: “God helps those who help themselves”. I decided that it was beyond time to start doing something. I quit my job after 32 years service when they refused to allow me to go on early retirement due to medical reasons. (I was informed that I hadn’t booked off sick enough to qualify!). I was worse off financially, but the fact that I didn’t have to cope with intense stress on a daily basis meant more to me than the money.

Once again, I weaned myself off all the meds, and then I started making lifestyle changes. I quit smoking, stopped eating junk food, sweets and chocolates, stopped drinking sugary cool drinks, stopped using sugar, stopped drinking alcohol and switched from drinking coffee to tea with stevia. I also started using full extract cannabis oil ingested orally at night to control the pain and to help me to sleep.

All of this stabilized my condition, but did not cure it. I did at least start losing some of the weight I had gained while on all the medication, but I felt as though I was in limbo, not getting worse, but not getting better either.

One day, while browsing different sites for people with chronic illnesses on Facebook, I came across the Nutritional Healing site. Since I had seen an improvement in my condition after I had improved my eating habits, I wondered if this could be the way to go. I contacted Jody and made the commitment to the program.

I am now 5 weeks into the Nutrition Protocol and have followed the program meticulously. I have to say, I feel Wonderful!! For the first time in years, I can honestly say my condition has improved.

My pain levels have decreased dramatically. My muscles have relaxed and the leg cramps, restless legs and numbness/tingling in my hands, legs and feet are much improved. I move with ease and my balance is much better. I can tackle stairs, bend and straighten, walk comfortably and lift my arms without discomfort.

The headaches, nausea and dizzy spells have gone and the IBS is getting better. My skin looks amazing and I no longer have any itchiness or rashes.

I sleep well at night and awaken feeling rested and relaxed. The “brain fog” has also improved, my memory is better and I am much more organized and aware.

I have also lost some more weight :)) I feel so much better that I can now start to exercise a little and I’m hoping to become much more active again. It goes without saying that my depression is vastly improved, and I actually enjoy socializing and getting out and about again.

Yes, the process to get to this point took a little time, effort and money. Was it worth it? A thousand times YES!!

Pokemon fandom, Gladmoon, Kukui!

I’ll be focusing on the game (and a bit of the anime) with this! Bear in mind that I have faint or no memories of DPPt, XY, BW, BW2 games because I didn’t really play them, so what I know of them mostly from the Pokespe manga ^^; PokemonFavorite character: At this point, I think it may be Gladion. Prooobably still Pikachu for PokemonLeast Favorite character: Ummm don’t think I really have one? 5 Favorite ships (canon or non-canon): Lonashipping, Kukui/Burnet, Sunlilyshipping, Kiawe/Mallow… I didn’t really ship much in the earlier games I think ^^; Character I find most attractive: N~ Character I would marry: StevenCharacter I would be best friends with: My own monsA random thought: I really should go familiarize myself with the other games cause this is turning into a Sun/Moon thing ^^;An unpopular opinion: I would actually enjoy the main character being less of a blank slate and having more of a personality even as a silent protagonist.My canon OTP:Kukui/Burnet I guess, since they’re married?Non-canon OTP:Gladion/Moon. More on that below.Most bad*** character:Mewtwo

Pairing I am not a fan of:Ummmmmmm none? Character I feel the writers screwed up (in one way or another):I absolutely love the way Sun and Moon were written, but I feel like the execution could have been even better on the Aether folks, as well as Guzma. Favourite friendship:Sun/Moon and Rotom. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA Real talk though, I loved the way Rotom-Dex interacts with you in USUM. It was endearing and adorable, and absolutely hilarious. Gladmoonwhen or if I started shipping it.I didn’t actually ship them when I first played the game. Much as I already loved Gladion, Moon was, after all, just a silent protagonist. But there were definitely hints of her and Sun’s personality showing a little through the replies you got to make to NPCs. After I started reading the Pokespe manga, and saw Kusaka’s characterization of Moon, I began to see an inkling of what I imagined the two protags would be like. I personally see them as two different characters; Sun being the brighter, sunnier, instinctive battler type, while Moon is more reserved, down-to-earth, and strategic compared to Sun. I’d imagine that Sun is the one doing all the nicer replies in-game (”It was pretty funny”) while Moon picks the other (”It was supposed to be funny?”), although both can be sassy when it comes to it. So anyway, I think the answer is that I do ship Gladion with what I imagine Moon is like (but not what I imagine Sun is like), so if someone has a vastly different portrayal of Moon than me, I might not be able to sail on that. my thoughts:There’s something really amazing about how Gladion started the game unwilling to trust anyone, and ends up being good friends and battle partners with Hau and the protag (despite his WE’RE NOT FRIENDS line, you fool www). I really wish the game had given him a much bigger role in the Ultra Space part. Let Wicke handle Aether, so that the siblings and Hau go through the wormhole with Sun/Moon. They could fend off other Nihilegos while Sun/Moon battled Lusamine ;w; What makes me happy about them:I DON’T KNOW EXACTLY. BUT I LOVE THEM. What makes me sad about them:When people write sad angst about them. I have a love hate relationship with things like that 8D;;Things done in fanfic that annoys me:As with the previous replies, it’s all the OOCness, mostly for Gladion. Moon can be characterized differently by everyone so I don’t blame anyone for writing her differently, but I’d like her to be written consistently.Things I look for in fanfic:In-characterness, and a Moon that is similar to my characterization of her.Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: Ummm I don’t know lol. Maybe Moon with Lillie?

My happily ever after for them:They get married and live with all their Pokemon in a nice big house.KukuiHow I feel about this character: I love him~ A part of it might also be because of the anime, because he’s written to be such a lovely parent there. <3 The arc with Burnet was adorable, too.All the people I ship romantically with this character: Burnet. My non-romantic OTP for this character: Not exactly an OTP, but let the two of them adopt Lillie and Gladion please! My unpopular opinion about this character: I don’t know what the general opinion is about him LOLOne thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon:It would be nice to see him play a bigger part in the story. FixedIt: Men’s rights = murder?

Men are in trouble, they really really are. They are the ones mostly likely to kill themselves, each other, womenand children. Men are also vastly overrepresented in incarceration rates, suicide, preventable death, problem gambling, smoking rates, dangerous alcohol consumption levels, drug abuse, workplace fatalities, perpetrators of assault, loneliness, car accidents and homelessness. Clearly men need advocacy, services, research and help to change whatever it is that’s causing such terrible outcomes for so many them.

Can we all agree though, that more murder is not what men need? That a man who kills people is not acting for “men’s rights“? I mean, is ‘don’t kill people’ really raising the bar too high for men’s rights?

Murdering judges and lawyers is not advocating for men. Hating women is not advocating for men. Railing against (and killing) people who provide assistance for women is not advocating for men.

Men are not going to get the help they so desperately need while people keep confusing advocating for men with acting against women. They’re not the same thing. One is aimed at helping men, the other is trying to harm women.

Tsukista TV Ep 4 Summary Notes

This week’s episode begins Procellarum’s turn! The nenshou-gumi is up first as usual, so this episode focuses on Sato Yuusaku, who plays Rui, and Sasa Tsubasa, who plays Iku. Also I realized I’m sort of inconsistent when referring to the stage actors by either their first or last names alone, but I usually go with whichever the fanbase calls them more often. (Hopefully it’s not confusing >_<) As always, feel free to add to the list or correct me if I got anything wrong~

The program started off with Tomotsune introducing the start of the show and everyone cheered.

The taste of drinking iced coffee afterwards mixes well. *sips iced coffee* Bye bye. *abrupt end* (YUUSAKU LMAOOO)

The situation is Yuusaku gets punched and wipes [figurative] blood off his mouth like he’s gonna fight back. “Damn, you’ve really done it now you asshole. I’m gonna fight back! URAGHHHHH”

Then they switch places and Tsubasa acts out a vampire while Yuusaku dubs it. “My lady, your blood...looks appetizing. Is one bite okay? *bites*”

Then they move on to talk about more serious stuff: their “path ahead”

Tsubasa: “Where are you going from here?” Yuusaku: “I want to be like Johnny Depp.” Tsubasa: “Uwaa, that’s amazing~” Yuusaku says it’s because Johnny Depp is able to portray a lot of vastly different characters and he wants to be able to do the same.

As for Tsubasa, he does butai work and some voice acting for video games but not a lot of tv/film stuff.

Yuusaku asks him if he’d be able to do tv/film stuff while also doing his main butai stuff and side voice acting work, but Tsubasa says it’s not that easy.

I’m going to give you a quick introduction about the Arabic Calligraphy in general, then I will also talk briefly about the difference between the 6 styles and show you some examples of each one of them.

I will also provide some references to study them and some tips on how to pick the correct book to study more if you’re interested to learn more about them.

General note about Arabic Calligraphy الخط العربي [audio]

The word خط has so many meanings, which is why I was having some difficulties translating it.

I used several words to refer to it; it can mean handwriting, calligraphy in general or it can be used to refer to a certain type of Arabic calligraphic cursive style, but all these words are translated to the wordخط in Arabic.

But here, I won’t be talking about hand writings for individuals, I will talk about the Arabic Calligraphy and its various cursive styles, which is an art and it follows strict and specific rules. The person who masters the different Arabic Calligraphic Cursive styles is called a calligrapher خَطّاط.

There are 6 main calligraphy cursive styles from which other cursive styles were derived. Some of these Arabic Calligraphy Cursive styles have variations too, and some of the new Calligraphy Cursive Styles are a mix of two styles or more. These styles are used as a type of art even nowadays, and we can see them present in Islamic Architecture.

These styles need a specific type of pencil and ink to write them, but some people use specific markers as well, although the traditional pencils and ink are preferable.

The six main Calligraphic Cursive styles (الخطوط العربية) are: Kufi, Naskh, Diwani, Farisi, Thuluth and Ruqa’aa.

[audio]الخط الكوفي Kūfi Calligraphic cursive style

It’s the oldest Arabic calligraphic cursive styles. Its name is derived from the city of “Kūfa” in Iraq, which is the region in which it originated. It dates back to the 2nd Century of the Hijri calendar (corresponds to the 12th century AD in the Gregorian calendar).

It’s one of the most beautiful styles; however it needs a lot of writing space, and it has so many angles and straight lines which means that the artist would need to rely on a ruler and certain measurements.

It was widely used in Egypt, in the era of Fatimid Caliphate.

Naskh Calligraphic cursive style خط النسخ [audio]

The word Naskh means “to copy”, and as the name suggests, it was used widely in copying books and manuscripts because it was simple to write and it was easy to read. It appeared during the Abbasid Caliphate Dynasty.

This script can also be found on the internet, in newspapers, and in books.

Even nowadays, it is still the most widely used font, and it’s what I suggest that beginners in calligraphy start with.

Ruqa’aa Calligraphic cursive style خط الرقعة [audio]

One of the easiest styles to write, and it doesn’t have too many rules which is why it is widely used as the style for handwriting by students in schools for examples and in and handwritten correspondence in many Arabic Speaking countries (especially in the Levaint and Egypt). It is used sometimes in printed documents.

As mentioned before, Ruqa’a style is considerably easy and fast to write, and most of it is written on the line. It doesn’t need a lot of writing space. The reason why it is called “Ruqa’a”is because it was written in small (رقاع ), which means rags and small pieces of paper, and the name Ruqa’a is derived from the word رُقاع.

It is the only cursive style that has remained the same and wasn’t used by the calligraphers to derive new writing style from it.

Notice how the words are flowing, the letters are written in a way to make the writing very quick and easy, compare the letter س in Ruqa’aa calligraphy cursive style and the Naskh for example. Try to take a look at the letter ث too, and the dots in general.

Thuluth Calligraphic cursive style خط الثلث [audio]

Thuluth is one of the most difficult calligraphic cursive styles to master, and it takes a lot of time to write, and the calligrapher needs to be extremely accurate to make sure they don’t make any mistakes because it follows a lot of strict rules. Because of its difficulty, a calligrapher does not quality as one unless he has mastered it, and it needs years and years of studying and practice to be able to master it.

Thuluth has some variations, and it is used in Islamic Architecture, like in mosques for example and in the beginnings of Mus-hafs (a copy of the Quraan). It is also used as newspaper headers and in some books or in praying rooms.

The meaning of the word Thuluth is “a third” and it was named like that because the edge of the pencil that is used for Thuluth is cut into one third (1/3) of the radius of the pencil.

Diwani Calligraphic cursive style الخط الديواني [audio]

The word Diwan means council, and this cursive style was named that way because it was vastly used by the writers of Offiicial Government Diwans in the Ottoman Empire.

It’s a very beautiful cursive style, and it’s pretty flexible. The words are written on the same line.The sentences written in Diwani style were very jammed and have little space between them, this complication was intended because it does not allow anyone to alter the official documents by adding a single letter. Credit goes to the calligrapher Mustafa Ghazlan for making this cursive style easier to read and leaving more space between the words and sentences.

Farisi Calligraphic cursive style الخط الفارسي [audio]

The word Farisi means Persian, which is the region in which this cursive style has originated in the 7thHirji Century (13th A.D.). This is the normal writing style in Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan.It’s one of the most beautiful cursive styles and it’s very simple and easy to read. The rules of writings it is very flexible which allows the calligraphers to be creative when they write in it. It was many variations to it as well.

In my opinion, the best calligraphy books are the ones that have explanation to each individual letter to show you how each one is written in that specific cursive style, and that has space for you to practice writing it.
