Ezekiel Elliott’s Emotional Reunion:

One of the intriguing storylines leading up to this game was Ezekiel Elliot facing his former team, the Dallas Cowboys. As a former standout running back for Dallas, this meeting held special significance for him. Struggles on Offense:

Despite his previous success, this particular game marked a low point in Mac Jones' career. His decision-making proved to be detrimental as he committed three costly turnovers that ultimately contributed to the Dallas Cowboys’ dominant victory. The first turnover occurred when Dante Fowler stripped the ball from him, resulting in a touchdown for the Cowboys as Leighton Vander Esch returned it to widen their lead by 15 points.

As if that wasn’t enough, towards the end of the second quarter, Jones made another ill-fated throw that landed directly into DaRon Bland’s hands for an interception returned for a pick-six. This unfortunate play put the New England Patriots in a massive 25-point deficit at halftime.

To make matters worse, Bland intercepted Jones once again at the start of the second half. With his team trailing by 28 points late in the third quarter, head coach Bill Belichick decided it was time for a change. He replaced Jones with backup quarterback Bailey Zappe for the remainder of the game.

It was undoubtedly an arduous outing for Jones as his poor decision-making and subsequent turnovers significantly impacted his team’s chances of mounting a comeback against Dallas. However, every athlete faces setbacks throughout their career, and it will be crucial for Jones to learn from this experience and bounce back stronger in future games.

In a remarkable display of skill and precision, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott delivered an outstanding performance, completing 28 out of 34 passes for a total of 261 yards. His exceptional accuracy and decision-making allowed the Cowboys’ offense to maintain control throughout the game. Adding to the offensive success, fullback Hunter Luepke made a significant impact by scoring a touchdown during the fourth quarter, showcasing his versatility and contributing to Dallas’ impressive victory.

Defensive Challenges:

In a series of unfortunate events for the New England Patriots, their already depleted secondary suffered another blow during Sunday’s game. Rookie first round cornerback Christian Gonzalez was forced to exit the game in the first half due to a shoulder injury. Unfortunately, he did not return to the field. As soon as Gonzalz left, the Dallas Cowboys wasted no time capitalizing on his absence. Quarterback Dak Prescott immediately targeted Myles Bryant, who had stepped in as Gonzalez’s replacement, and connected with CeeDee Lamb for Dallas’ first touchdown of the day. 

To compound their defensive woes, star linebacker Matthew Judon and safety Jabrill Peppers also succumbed to injuries late in the game and were unable to return. The Patriots later confirmed that Judan had sustained an elbow injury.

The severity of these injuries to Gonzalez, Judon, and Peppers remains unclear at this point. However, their absence is undoubtedly a significant blow for a Patriots defense that is already dealing with multiple key players sidelined due to injury. These additional setbacks come at an inconvenient time as New England heads into what feels like a crucial Week 5 matchup where they will need all hands on deck defensively.

The Patriots’ coaching staff and medical team will closely monitor the status of these players moving forward while exploring potential solutions within their roster depth. It will be essential for other members of the team’s defense to step up and fill these voids if necessary as they strive for success despite facing adversity on multiple fonts.

Missed Opportunities:

Here’s the thing, I don’t think NFL players are getting paid to “have fun.” In fact I think it’s probably not very fun at all, even for guys who absolutely love playing the game. I think the power, skill, talent, and physical ability required to have even a slight chance at playing in the NFL is so outside the average person’s ability to understand that they substitute the only level of the game they have any experience with: high school. Most students who play high school sports do so purely for fun, so the average person assumes this must always be true. Any criticism from that angle is inherently flawed and I want to say that at the outset.

I also think the era of the workhorse running back is over. 10,000 career rushing yards is probably unattainable (only 3 active players are close, and Derrick Henry has the most legitimate shot). There are too many running backs that are “good enough” and also young and less expensive.

All this to say that Melvin Gordon isn’t wrong, it’s a hard time to play running back, but the reality is that numerous players got huge contracts after 4-6 years of play and then immediately proved they were not worth that money to their teams. Quarterbacks, wide receivers, and linemen, of course, have shown the opposite.

I’m sensitive to the position. I love watching a great run game and specifically played that position myself because I wanted to be Emmitt Smith. Unfortunately the league has moved away from running backs who can’t catch passes, and owners can’t justify big money for the position anymore.

One Amari Cooper is worth a dozen Ezekiel Elliotts.

Ezekiel Amari, his hands visibly shaking, grabbed ahold of the lock box and slowly turned each wheel until they hit the numbers he believed to be correct. With three wrong answers so far, those that were standing around him were silently pleading for this one to be correct. However, the moment he finished inputting the numbers, the walls not only continued to move inward, but they were now moving faster.  Along with it; the floor begins to rumble underneath his feet; loud and violent. Cracks appear in the floor, shuddering and breaking to create a large chasm. Those around the lobby have to jump back in order to save themselves from being swallowed by the darkness in the depths of the earth.  Another wrong code entered. The walls now moving at a slightly faster speed than before.
