‘ in safe beds on cold dark nights, we learn to face the monsters in our own minds. ’ He had been quiet for a while, his eyes focused on the fire little else. He knew it more than anything, his lack of sleep leaving him with little else to do. "I don't.. think many of the others get to do such, which may be why they steer clear of you…" It was the only time he turned to Mushi, but when he did it was with nothing less than amusement, a smile on his lips. The Shinsengumi, those who truly knew, didn't understand Souji's insistence on keeping the demon around, but it was simple, not just because Mushi helped him overcome the sickness in his lungs, but perhaps he felt more at ease with a real demon than with any feigned one in their ranks.
It was a sight that bought his attention from the world, listening to the hushed whispers of leaves and chatter of men that didn't want to believe Souji was healing well, was able to stand and breath without blood in his teeth. The battle of sides was one he didn't care about - as it wasn't a time of agreement between himself and those he isn't feasting upon. Adjustment of legs and wings, the subtle buzz of his being settled with his head resting upon arms and gaze once more fixating upon the human who spoke up.
"Then it is their own faults for believing in the wrong and not wishing to see the good of proof in front of them. To deny you your health simply because it's not in the form of powder and doctors of this world. They'd rather you die in pain and without another way to live to keep themselves sane." Bitter his words were, but truth in each flicker. Mandibles shift within throat to pull down remnants of prior feeding, blackened pus and disease pulled to his gullets void as he let his lashes flutter close to enjoy the warmth of a room for two.
"Do they make you regret it, Souji? Do you wish to be back to the ways before you found me?"
