We have to talk about Edgar Allen Poe. This historic spelling style looks very skillful in the first moment. Then I found out that he had to get his famousness with atmosphere and tension. But: His thoughts seem often very trivial and not profound. I suggest you to read E. T. A. Hoffmann who has the better horror stories. Poe often was very clever and pushed the tension for example while "The Muders in the Rue Morgue". But the facts are conceivable. Nearly in the beginning it was sure that the murderer had to be an animal. I guess Poe had his great time and he was really high literature, in former time, but for todays circumstances he calls the horror by name, but he doesn‘t describe it. My favorite parts are "The Fall of the House of Usher", because that was great when Poe explained how the house got the feelings of the human and converse. And I love the poem of the Raven. But funny is the moment when Poe tells you, that you never really smelled on a flower or you never had enough fantasy to see faces or places when you looked into a fire, when you never fainted.
