I have to remind, that much of old religions prior to catholicism spread, were wiped out, texts upon texts erased, temples destroyed, civilization defaced as well as their Gods. It's really important to note that before you go off on a tangent about what stories we get our Gods and which we validate. Many of those stories were retellings from Christians. I just saw someone completely just kinda @ Hellenic Pagans on saying that some stories of their Gods they don't quite use. Hard to explain, but I am not one to call out, nor spend energy arguing on a dumb website.
I can explain this really simply too. At some point the telling of Medusa was revised– originally in very ancient society Medusa was never born a beautiful maiden but a gorgon, she and her sisters were known to be protectors of the Oracle of Delphi. So until Ovid’s Metamorphosis and probably a few other writers, that her more recent horrible story was told of her assault and transformation from woman to gorgan was discussed.
The Gods stories in Ancient Greece changed based on the morals of the storytellers. In fact, not much was written but word of mouth, not until later on. So it's an incredibly valid point to say that some stories of Greek and Roman Gods are not for you. In general, stories of the Gods overall no matter region changed flippantly depending on who wrote it, who sat around the fire telling the story, and what story a child or grown adult was first told of said God. We really don't get written Greco stories until very much later on.
So Hellenic Pagans saying, hey I don't really enjoy this interpretation of my Gods, for my interpretation and relationship with them is much different is a valid assessment.
