  in light of the information we’ve been given recently regarding scara, i’m gonna do the softest of revisions of my previous name headcanon.

i was admittedly hesitant to lean into referring to him ic solely as ‘wanderer,’ but almost entirely due to this piece from his story —  “ he needs not introduce himself, for ordinary folk will never get to know him. [...] wanderer is how he believes he might be best described - he has no home, no kin, and no destination. ”  — i’ve changed my stance. for the most part, my interpretation will go by ‘wanderer’ in threads set after the events of chapter three. the one exception is those he’s particularly close with; they will have the option of using ‘kunikuzushi’ as per my old headcanon, if only for a name to refer to him by. they alone are allowed that bit of intimacy, of referring to him by the closest he’s had to any real name.

though not made to be a perfect mirror image of ei, as the shogun was, scara was still made very much in her image. thus, it stands to reason that he is trans.

gender hasn’t ever been something he viewed as a HUGE concern to him, and he’s been fortunate to not experience all that much dysphoria — so long as he isn’t perceived as femme, he’s fine. really, he leans more he/they than strictly he/him, although he does prefer masc pronouns. he has had top surgery, finding that much necessary to feel comfortable in his own skin, but he’s never felt as strongly about bottom surgery and thus has not sought it out. sex is something that’s never really occurred to him as a thing he intends to engage in, viewing it as little more than disgusting human base desires and something he’s ABOVE, so, in his mind, he’s had even less reason to spend much time considering such things.

scaramouche does not have an electro vision — he doesn’t need one, as he’s able to harness the element regardless.

as he was created by ei with intent to inherit her power and rule over inazuma, it’s only natural that he would be capable of manipulating electro. upon being labeled defective though, this ability was sealed away, along with ANY power he had that was beyond the average human. he actually spent many, many years unable to connect with any elemental power, effectively a normal human being, save for his immortality.

it was the fatui, of course, who figured out how to unseal his power after he joined their ranks — the nature of his existence and the power he held being the main reason they accepted him in the first place. since then, he’s been able to use the power of electro to his heart’s content, and wield it in a way that’s stronger than the average vision holder. it’s far from true god levels of power, such a thing unobtainable without a gnosis, but he sits somewhere IN BETWEEN the strength of humans with visions and the gods.

children are... a soft spot of scara’s, though he denies it. 

they’re pure and utterly innocent beings who haven’t yet been burdened or tainted by the world, who have no ulterior motives that you have to go GUESSING at. in most cases, they haven’t yet been harmed by the cruelties of life, and even those who have typically remain soft because they don’t know how to contextualize the things that have happened to them. this... is something he relates to on an EXTREMELY DEEP level, having been much the same for many of his first years of existence. he hates that he relates, hates that sometimes he misses that simplicity and happiness, but no matter how hard he tries to forget, to move past it, he always falls back in to understanding children.

inevitably, the realities of life in the world will fall on them as they do for everyone. in time, they will become as untrustworthy and conniving as all humans do. until then though, he’d rather see them MAINTAIN their innocence. really, his thought process is similar to childe’s in this regard; you only get so many years of finding wonder in the world, finding joy in its purest form, before you’re exposed to the HARSH TRUTH of reality. having that TORN from you early is one of the worst things that can happen to a person.

so, children... he won’t typically go out of his way to protect them himself, nor will he often engage with them at all, but he certainly won’t harm them himself. life will do that to them sooner or later anyway, and what has he got to gain from it?

names are a complicated thing when you’re born without being given one.

  through the different stages in his life, he’s gone through many — some more well known than others. scaramouche & the balladeer are understandably the ones most are familiar with, given the STATUS that came with them. shouki no kami is the one people were SUPPOSED to know him by, the one thousands were meant to be familiar with.

       and yet, kunikuzushi is perhaps the closest he’s ever had to a true name.

it’s the first and only one which he chose for himself. chosen out of anger, yes; intended as an OMEN for inazuma, with the literal translation of country destroyer. RENOUNCED upon brief ascension to make way for his new era, only to have it crumble in his hands.

if he could get away living without a name, he would likely take the chance — but life, one among mortals in particular, requires one. begrudgingly, he returns to kunikuzushi when someone requires a name to call him by, though he remains unsatisfied with it. perhaps in the future he’ll find something which better suits, but for the time being... kunikuzushi is the closest he has to a name he can call his OWN.
