“   i  didn’t  need  your  help.   ”       a  lie,     blatantly  a  lie.    but  pride  won  out  over  all.      a  need  for  independence  and  self - saving  tendancies  meant  she  couldn’t  see  when  help  was  genuinely  needed.      pushing  herself  up  off  the  floor  caused  such  a  whine  to  come  from  her,    hips  she  already  had  trouble  with  starting  to  ache.     “   i  had  it.   ”

the  saddest  of  laughs  dances  along  her  tongue,    barely  present  but  desperate  to  push  through.     she  would  have  said  yes,    once.     jumped  at  the  opportunity  for  a  lifetime  spent  by  his  side.      but  she  knew  now  how  painfully  unrealistic  the  expectations  would  be.     “   you  say  that  like  you’d  stay.   ”        maybe  too  harsh  from  the  get  go,      yet  there  was  no  point  in  humouring  the  thought.      “   you  and  i  know  you’d  get  bored  after  five  minutes.   ”

another  fight  with  mike  and  she  has  no  idea  where  to  go.    no  emily,   no  beth. . .      for  someone  always  surrounded  by  adoring  people,     she  felt  so  very  alone.    isolated  and  put  down,     she  finds  herself  stood  outside  his  door.     desperation  had  brought  her  here  more  than  anything  else,    needing  familiarity   even  if  it  was  estranged.      wet  from  the  rain,    having  walked  the  whole  way,    she  shivered  as  she  waited  for  him  to  answer,    though   not  in  much  of  a  rush  for  door  to  open.

“   hey!      sam,    hey!       what  are  you  doing  here?   ”     smile  growing  as  she  spots  the  other,     instantly  rushing  over  and  curling  arms  around  her.     “   it’s  been  way  too  long.       i’m  gonna  need  a  hug.   ”

stood  up  again,    one  would  think  her  used  to  it.     yet  here  she  is,    sat  with  josh  once  again,    crying  her  eyes  out.       nice  was  a  lie,     black  mascara  pouring  down  her  cheeks.     but  she’s  laughing,    head  shaking  a  little  as  she  finds  it  impossible  not  to  laugh  around  him.     a  heavy  sigh  falling  from  chest,     head  tilting  to  rest  on  his  shoulder.     “   thanks,    josh.      i  needed  to  hear  that.   ”

it  almost  hurt  to  hear.     more  than  if  he’d  kept  it  to  himself.     a  sigh,    opting  not  to  think  too  heavily  about  it.      she’d  fall  apart  if  she  did.      “   hey,    at  least  you’re  self  aware.     can’t  say  that  benefits  me  all  that  much,    but  good  for  you.   ”
