HE ADJUSTS HIS GRIP ON GIADA , who had fallen asleep at one point but refused to be put down while he helped customers . he watches as the girl in front of him digs through her purse , insisting she had enough , but can’t find the cash anymore . she’d said something about the library not having this specific book that her kid had set his heart on so she was trying to treat him , but now turns to her kid apologetically and starts to explain . as the child’s face falls , enzo shakes his head , dropping cash from his own wallet into the register and handing her the change from it . “ the book’s yours . ” he says , not letting her argue even about him giving her the change . it’s not going to affect him to give away one book , and the kid had been so excited , moments ago . he sends them on their way with the book , and greets the next customer .

she immediately claims he should pay for her books since he paid for the last woman’s . enzo arches an eyebrow , shaking his head . “ she wasn’t yelling at me . ” the male replies , glancing down at the stack of books she’s set on the counter . he starts scanning the books , reading out her total when he finishes . he explains again that she is not entitled to free books just because he gifted one to the previous customer . and glares when the woman continues to argue , her kid whining loudly enough that he feels giada shifting and clearly waking up . at one point the woman demands the manager , just as the door opens and someone else steps inside the shop . “ welcome , let me know if i can help you with anything , ” he calls , before turning back to the woman in front of him . “ i’m the owner , and you can leave . ” he says , picking up her stack and setting them with the small stack of put backs behind the counter . as the woman sputters and then drags her kid away , he turns his attention to the other person . “ hi , how can i help you ? ”

THIS WAR OF HEARTS —

enzo , known among those close to him as being graceful in his movement and appearance , and protective of those close to him , is hard-working but reserved , incredibly independent , and cautious . both of events , other things around himself , and of others . however , he is incredibly loyal to those he supports , and those he’s close to . he is creative and can be very caring to people he likes , but is also incredibly callous , insensitive .

i . THOUGHTS OF YOU CONSUME — ENZO DI TRAGLIA was born with a silver spoon in his mouth . he and his sister were spoiled as children , and they were very close , while their parents were never very present in their lives . however , they did work hard , both in school and later in their careers .

they were very SIMILAR , both protective and both enjoyed reading . the biggest differences between them didn’t become apparent until enzo was an adult . he went to university in new york where he’d grown up .

after graduating , he took over his FAMILY BUSINESS , which was mainly real estate , but he wrote novels on the side . he worked extremely hard , and his girlfriend was with him during these years . when his novels started generating more income , he pulled back from his real estate job , setting it up as more of a passive income for himself and trusting his staff to run it .

ii . I CAN’T HELP BUT WANT YOU — he met his BEST FRIEND during his freshman year of university , and they started dating during his sophomore year . he adores her , and is incredibly protective of her .

iii . I CAN’T HELP BUT LOVE YOU — he PROPOSED when he was twenty-five , and though they started wedding planning , they never made it far . although they had a daughter , giada , two years ago , his ex kept pushing things off , and he didn’t understand why until they got into a fight a year ago .

she didn’t want to go to a family event , and he didn’t understand why . they argued , and kept arguing . it took a few days until he happened to walk in on his sister making rude comments about her and telling her she wasn’t good enough for enzo . he immediately banned his sister from his apartment , and did everything he could to keep them apart , including not speaking to his sister anymore . his parents told him he was overreacting , but didn’t push it .

iv . I KNOW THAT I’D DIE WITHOUT YOU — but his EX-FIANCÉE broke things off , not wanting to come between him and his family . she stayed living with him because they discovered she was pregnant again , and they were still close , so choosing the option that put their children first made the most sense . they welcomed their son , jace , into the world a month before moving to moorbrooke .

enzo was the one to suggest the MOVE . they would be closer to her family , and they could more easily pick and choose who in his family is even allowed near their children . since moving he has focused on making sure that she is doing well and that the children are happy .

v . & I CAN’T SLEEP — shortly after moving , enzo purchased DRIFTWOOD BOOKS , wanting a project outside of his current work in progress novel , and tries to bring in both new and old books as well as striving to offer fair prices to anyone wishing to sell their old books . it’s a fun project for him , and it’s helped him to get used to the town .
