Pairing: Geto Suguru x reader
Words: 7.030
Warning: none, just fluff, childhood promise (marriage)
Summary: Children are naïve, make promises that they usually forget or even break. Geto also promised to marry you, to see you standing by his side as a bride when you’re old enough. But time passes, you grow older, and the promises you made back then remain nothing but pure memories. Because children forget, that’s how it is, isn’t it?
This fic is part of our Anilysium Server Collab with the topic forget me not, where they made a promise to marry each other when they grew up. You can find the masterlist here. So check out all the other wonderful writers/artists. ♥

Your face was quite warm, your little hands knotted together restlessly. Those dark eyes looked at you so expectantly, almost glassy for fear of your answer. “Will you?” Geto asked, his arms stretched far forward. His ankles were almost white, the flowers in his hand almost broken as he tried to give you the bouquet as calmly as possible.
Lots of beautiful field flowers, decorated with a few tulips he had stolen from some people’s front yard. But of course you didn’t know that. You only knew the bouquet was beautiful. Your best friend had given you words that left you speechless. Although you could not speak, your loud beating heart answered. The broad smile and your shimmering eyes.
“Is that a yes? Will you marry me?” Geto’s eyes get bigger, his attitude more confident, the last steps to you faster. He knew you before you knew yourself, because your parents became friends when you moved to this area. Your mother was still pregnant with you, Geto very young. The age difference was minor, but he was already fascinated by you back then.
As time went on, you grew older, became more and more feminine. If the children around you were mean to you, Geto watched your back. He was always with you. When you were sick, it was Geto who had picked  bouquets of herbs and flowers for you, hoping they would quickly make you well again. Even at such a young age, he would have done anything for you. He’d even take the stars from the sky if that’s what you wanted.
So it was easy for you to feel a tingling in your stomach every time you saw him. A feeling of butterflies dancing in your belly, each time he greeted you with a shy smile, slim eyes and his hands hid in his pockets. But you couldn’t relate to that feeling. How could you know? At such a young age, you didn’t know what love is.
And yet, you couldn’t  suppress your joy when you saw your best friend standing in front of you, his long hair wild in his face, a bit of potting soil on his cheek, as he asked you if you wanted to marry him. Whether you wanted to be his wife and be a happy family as if two characters in his favorite series.
Nodding, you took the bouquet, saw the tension fall from his small shoulders before he clasped you in his arms and gave you a loud smooch on the cheek that made you laugh. “You will surely be a beautiful wife! My beautiful bride!” He giggled before he let you go and looked you in the eye.
But just as quickly, he turned away from you when he remembered something important. Despite all his preparation, he had forgotten something essential. “We… We have to tell your parents.” He recalled when he gently grabbed your free hand to pull you to your front door.
You were sure that his heart was beating faster than yours, that he was more nervous than you were. Hesitantly, but then with a lot of strength, he knocked on the massive wooden door. So firm that you already thought he would cut his ankles. Geto knocked until your mother opened the door, wondered, looked down at him, then at you.
“Oh, that’s a beautiful bouquet, my little one. Did you give her this, Sug-” But the black-haired boy was nervous that he unintentionally interrupted your mother in her question, bent so low down that he would see his feet if he had his eyes open.
“I’m sorry I didn’t ask your permission before, but I will marry your beloved daughter, my love, so she will be my bride soon!”
His loud voice almost startled you when you looked up at your mother. Judging by her face, the situation also overwhelmed her. Everything went silent. You couldn’t even hear the birds; Geto made them fly away with his exclamation. You were afraid of how your mother would react. This brief moment of silence, as Geto was still standing before your mother, seemed like an eternity.
But then her soft laughter brightened the mood, bringing calm into the suddenly tense situation. Yet her words were anything but calm for you. For you, these were nothing but a prick in your heart.
“Suguru, my child, don’t apologize. I really appreciate all this, but you two are way too young to get married. I can’t accept that, and I hope you understand.”
His gaze went upwards. Pain, grief, all the negative feelings reflected in his face. Your mother bent forward, put her hand to his cheek, and gave him a kindly kiss on his forehead. “If you two are old enough, I wouldn’t want any other man by her side Suguru.”
His shoulders were shaking, and you could feel him holding back his tears. “When… When are we old enough to get married?” He asked, the voice so quiet and shaky that you were almost afraid of it.
The woman in front of him, however, remained restrained, thought briefly before smiling at him again. Her hand now on his fine hair. “That’s a hard question, Suguru. I can only speak for myself, but my husband and I had gotten married since I was in the third year of college. But-”
Again, she couldn’t finish her sentence. Geto clenched his fists, took a deep breath before turning around and looking at you. “When we’re both in the third year of college, I promise I’ll ask you again if you want to be my wife. Please wait for me, my future bride!” Completely determined, he buzzed, nodding to you before turning to your mother and apologizing.
The evening went differently than usual. Geto left you with mixed feelings. Just like your mother, whose actions you thought were mean. After all, she had prevented you from marrying Geto. The fear that he was looking for a girl other than you accompanied you.
But all these were children’s stories. Promises made by children to forget them days or weeks later.

“We should make a list for the party tomorrow… Don’t you think, Sugu?” You say a bit tired before you turn away from the side and look directly at Geto. Almost every night, you lie between his legs on the couch, your head on his chest, his arms wrapped around you. Most of the time, you watch movies or talk about Gojo and his miserable flirtations.
You don’t know when this all started, how you two got so close. The line between friendship and love blurred. It was  hard for you to tell since you’ve known each other your whole lives. But if you didn’t know Geto was your best friend, you’d find it hard to call your relationship pure friendship. Because you’re too close for that. Still… you are nothing but very close friends.
Every time you put these words in your mouth, remembered that you are just friends, you felt a hole in your heart, a sharp pain in your chest. But you were always good at suppressing it. You always talked yourself into just being buddies with him and maybe also tried to get on other thoughts by having dates with other men. It didn’t matter; in the end, it was always Geto, whose arms you had sought security and safety. You’ve never been able to keep a relationship long.
“Didn’t you look at the app? I already put drinks and some food on the list” Geto says and pulls you out of your thoughts with his deep, yet gentle, voice. Stroking your head as if you were a toddler or his young sister. Of course, he probably sees you as a little sister. Someone he needs to protect.
“Ah no, I haven’t looked at the list yet.” You answer him before you stretch out your arm to the side to reach for your phone. Slowly, you study the list, read word for word, and start smiling. “Valerian? Really?”
“Well, if Utahime is coming, I’m sure she needs this to bear Satoru… And before she yells about his flirting attempts again, I thought that might be a good idea.” He states embarrassed, playing with a curl of your hair that slides through his fingers.
“I don’t think Satoru’s gonna hit on her. He asked me if I would like to go out with him after the party. It would be strange if he then flirts with Uta-”
“He invited you on a date?” Geto interrupts you, visibly irritated, and slips out from under you to sit up straight. You mirror him and sit up straight across from him.His dark eyes watch you skeptically, and you don’t know what to say. It’s almost like he wants to know why you didn’t tell him before. Should you have said no because the three of you get along so well, and it might affect your friendship?
“Yes...” You answer hesitantly, trying to avoid eye contact with him.
“Then… have fun, both of you.”
Although he laughs, seemingly happy for you, you feel a strange tug in your body, like someone’s trying to crush your heart. If there’s one thing you don’t want, it’s Geto mad at you. You only agreed to go on a date with Gojo to avoid thinking about your certainly unrequited feelings for Geto.
“You’re not mad at me, are you?”
“No, why would I be? If you’re happy, I’m happy.” He responds to you quickly, as he reaches out to bring  you back to your old position on his chest.  Even though it was much too warm, you lie there, snuggled up against him.
“The commercial has stopped. Let’s finish the movie and go to bed.” His hoarse voice hovers like a fog above you. Embedding you in a pleasant feeling before you nod and direct your attention back to the bright screen.
As you feel the rise and fall of his chest, listening to his breath, you feel your eyes growing heavy.  His fingers comb through your hair and scratch your head softly, battling valiantly against your fatigue.
“Come on, let’s go to bed.” Geto says,  leaning down towards you. But your body doesn’t move, quietly slumbering in his arms. He knew you were too quiet for the exciting parts of the movie. Your body pressed too peacefully against his own. His hand, which had previously supported his neck, creeps slowly to your cheek, stroking it carefully not to wake you.
Can a guy like Gojo really make you happy? You laugh a lot in the presence of the two men, but it was the same with all your partners. In the end, you were always sad, looking at Geto with glassy eyes and burying your trembling fists in his shirt. He hated that sight of you. But how should he react when his best childhood friend and his best buddy love each other, go separate ways only a few months or maybe years later and you stand before him again, all sad and sobbing? What can he say if he cares about both his best friends?
Sighing, he reaches for the remote control and turns off the TV before he tries to carry you over to your own room in the dark. He moves slowly and quietly, careful not to wake the other students.
Begging that no one heard your squeaky door, he grimaces while stepping into your room to tuck you in bed. He tiptoes to your windows, softly closing the curtains so that they do not wake you up by the bright morning light before he goes back to you.
Everything is quiet, only his pocket rustles as he grabs your phone and squints his eyes at the brightness you had set your phone to. It takes a while for his eyes to get used to the light before he unlocks it.
Every time he looks at your lock screen, he has to grin. Then, as a background, you have a picture of both of you, both with a messy bun and greenish curd-cucumber masks on your faces, which you had once discovered from some do-it-yourself video and wanted to try out.
While you grinned into the camera like a Cheshire cat, Geto licked some of your curd mask from your cheek, which made you yelled at him afterwards because you wanted a serious picture. But how could you take a serious picture if you looked like a poorly disguised alien? In the end, however, this was one of your favorite photos. You had a copy of it in your wallet next to the one of Geto as a child.
Still smiling, he swipes through your phone to set an alarm for you. Since you still had to shop tomorrow, he set the alarm an hour earlier than usual. Just as he is about to lock the phone, a message pops up. Satoru Gojo.
For a moment, he hesitates. He thinks about reading the message, but shakes his head and immediately locks your screen. It wouldn’t be right. Your trust is too important to him to read a stupid message Geto might not even want to read. Carefully he puts your charging cable to the phone, gently puts it on your bedside cabinet before he gives you a kiss on the forehead and leaves your room as quietly as he came in.
Tumblr media
Still tired, you search for your phone as you hear the shrill sound of your alarm clock. You can’t remember how you got into your bed, but you feel like someone was carrying you that night. You’re sure you fell asleep on Geto’s couch.
Sleepy, you rub your eyes, open the curtains a little to get used to the light before brushing your teeth and getting ready for the day. After you got dressed, you shoved the curtains completely to the side to open the windows, as you stroll to your mobile to ask Geto if he was ready for shopping.
But your thumb stops above the small message symbol, pressing skeptically when you see Gojo’s name thick as the last contact.
>>Looking forward to tonight, because that means our date is coming soon. Good night bunny~ <<
Laughing, you shake your head at his message and his choice of words. You answer him with a noncommital  ‘We’ll see’ and slip your phone into your pocket and reach for your backpack for shopping.
“Sugu, are you ready? Let’s go!” You call into his room when you open the door to pick him up. But what you see makes your cheeks glow, your body hot. “Have you ever heard of knocking? Why don’t you write to me first, as usual?”
Right, you forgot to text Geto. Instead, you’re standing in his room staring at him with big eyes. His upper body is not covered, he’s only in his shorts. His toothbrush in his mouth, the hair scattered in all directions, he stands in front of you, just as startled as you are.
Okay, you guys had seen each other half-naked before. But that was when you were little and your parents were splashing on a beach with you, and now at this age you had only seen him once in a while on the beach with bathing trunks and Hawaii shirt, but rarely shirtless.
“Eh- uh… I’ll wait for you outside!” You stutter, your eyes still fixed on his upper body as you turn around and want to go with quick steps. But your turn is a little too hasty, as you bang your head against the door, just hear how Geto walks towards you and wants to twist you around with his muscular arms. But you remain steadfast, and don't want to move.
“Get dressed. I’m fine, yes, yes. See you!” You scream in an unusually high-pitched tone while slamming the door behind you and leaning against the wall. Why is your heart beating so fast? Is it because this situation was just so weird? You take a deep breath, trying to calm this feeling in you while waiting for the man of your childhood.
You do not wait long when Geto comes out, his hair now neatly tied up in a bun. Just a small strand falls into his face, and for a moment you see his cheeks take on a slightly pink tone, as he looks at you embarrassed. But maybe you’re imagining it.
“Shall we go then?” He asks, suddenly his familiar smile on his face. Now you’re sure it was just pure imagination.
The way to the store is unusually quiet, none of you say a word too much. Even in the store, you just look at your list, place the things in your basket and are for less than half an hour back outside the store again. Your bags are full of snacks and drinks. Geto carries all the heavy things, je insisted on giving you only the light things to spare your back.
After only a few minutes, you have reached your location, standing in front of the large hall where all celebrations are held. Today is the day, today you will make this hall your playing field. You’ll celebrate, while the teachers will probably be annoyed with the music and all the talk. But you deserved all of this.
You had passed the second year of your studies, and are now in your third year as a student at Jujutsu High. The college you always wanted to go to when you were a kid.
“Uh hey, I’ll put the stuff in there and then I have to go somewhere else for a bit. I’ll be back soon. Would you start and prepare everything so far? I’ll help you when I get back.” You hear Geto’s voice as it echoes through the anteroom where you stand, before turning to him.
“Uh… sure. Eh… I’ll see you later than?” You ask, and are not sure if you upset Geto this morning. When he gets back, you should apologize to him, even if you can’t really imagine that he might be mad at you because you saw him shirtless. However, he won’t answer you, just waves you thoughtfully, the smile not as wide as usual.
Yet, you have little time to think about that when a friendly voice brings you back to reality. “Oi, you maybe need help there?” Ieiri’s shoes clatter on the floor, her hands are stuck in her long coat, eyes fixed on the remaining bags.
You don’t have time to think about Geto now. You can talk at the party later. Now you have to prepare everything, the better that Ieiri just came by. With her help, you might be done in less than an hour.
“Hey, Shoko, yeah, so… Suguru had already dragged a few things into the hall a few days ago. These are the remaining purchases. So we’d just have to spread it all over the table and… and maybe place a few chairs and tables on the sides so we have enough space to dance.” You haven’t even finished that sentence yet, as she cuts off your words, patting you on your shoulder.
“Sounds good, let’s get started so we have enough time to dress up.” She says ironically before grabbing one bag and entering the hall with you.
It is large, decorated with a few plants, while the light comes in through the floor-to-ceiling windows and the still open door. Geto had probably opened it to let some fresh air in. “So, shall we start with the tables?” You listen to Ieiri’s voice, agree with her and nod before you focus on the preparations again.
You were a little too enthusiastic about your assessment of just an hour. In the end, it took you almost three hours to place the tables, finger food and snacks in a kind of buffet. You put the drinks partly in the fridge, partly outside for the people who dislike their drinks cold. You have also already placed the plates and cups, and tested the music box.
At the end, you had hung up a few decorative items, blown up balloons and distributed them before you closed the door to the small backyard and left the room for the time being. You are endlessly grateful to Ieiri for her help, you couldn’t have done it without her.
“Did you argue with Suguru or why wasn’t he here to help?” She asks, like she knows what’s bothering you right now.
“No, he… He’s got something to take care of, or so… I don’t know what.” You answer her, just decide to stick with what he told you when you said goodbye. Ieiri studies you skeptically, but doesn’t go deeper into your answer. Instead, she tries to change the subject as you enter your apartment building and stand in front of the different corridors.
“All right, then I suggest we get ready for the evening, too, right? You wanted to wear this one new dress. This… black dress?”
“It is not black. More like an inky purple. But you’re right, we should get ready.” You smile at her before she gives you a warm look and you two say goodbye.
When you arrive in your room, you get your mobile phone out of your pocket, write Geto that he no longer has to come to the hall as you had already finished the preparations. He quickly read the message, while the gray hooks become blue. But there is no answer from him.
Thoughtfully, your gaze wanders to the small bag next to your bed. Inside is the dress you bought for the party the other day. You were sure Geto would like it, but now you feel stupid trying to look good for him.
But well, if Geto doesn’t want to talk to you, you have enough other people to spend the night with. You’re sure Gojo would like that dress too. Constantly you look at your mobile phone, hoping that you might still get an answer from Geto, but there is none.
Almost finished, you struggle with your dress, because it’s difficult to close the zipper on your back, but somehow you managed it due to a life-hack video you saw a few weeks ago. One last time you want to turn around, look at yourself from behind in the mirror as you hear someone knocking on your room door.
“Su-, Satoru…” You almost say disappointed when you see the white-haired man standing in front of you. In a chic suit, casual sunglasses he stands just a few inches away, musters you with his mouth open, is speechless at your sight.
“Eh… I wanted to ask if… Whether you want to go with me to the party.”
What if Geto comes later? Stands outside of your empty room? No, you’ve spent enough time thinking about him. He’s probably thinking about something other than you all day, so why are you trying to keep him in your mind?
Nodding, you reach for your small handbag, and step out of your room a little insecure on your high heels. Gojo notices you do not find the support you need on the uneven wooden floor,  and offers you his arm to hook.
Thankfully you accept, go with him along the corridors outside, up to the building with the large hall where you want to toast your new year with delightful music and drinks.
As the door opens, and the party lights are already on, you see the people moving on the dance floor. Some are once taking advantage of the drinks and food, while the teachers monitor everything from afar.
Searching, your eyes wander through the room, recognizing many familiar faces, but one is missing. “Did Suguru tell you anything? Is he coming later?” You ask Gojo, eyes still fixed on the crowd in front of you.
“Not that I know of, but what do you say if we dance for a while? You and I can have fun without Suguru.” He grins, his arms slowly go down before he captures your hands and pulls you onto the dance floor, he does not accept any rebuttals from you.
At first you want to stop him, want to keep looking for your best friend, but soon the white-haired one gets you thinking about other matters. He makes you forget the sorrow as he swings you wildly on the dance floor. Turning day into night, you are sure that your feet will hurt from the many dances tomorrow.
“I hope you’re having fun.” He shouts aloud, otherwise you would not hear him through the music when he pulls you to himself and looks you in the eyes.
“Yes, I did. Thank you Satoru.”

“I called earlier. Geto my name.” Friendly Geto’s voice echoes as he joins the flower shop some stops away from your college. An elderly woman who comes forward from her back room through the door ringing sound of the bell greets him.
“That’s right, you asked for a self-tied bouquet, take a look around. You can take all the flowers that are not reserved. I’ll make the bouquet for you then, young man.” The lady smiles politely, bows, which Geto equals.
Looking for special flowers, he quickly finds what he is looking for before he goes to the lady’s little flower dressing table and puts the flowers and a few herbs and plants on the table.
“Oh…” the lady says thoughtfully, as she looks closely at the flowers, and wanders with her eyes up to the tall man. “These flowers… Seems like a special day for you today, doesn’t it?” She wants to know, after all, she knows exactly what each of them means.
But Geto looks only to the side, smiles lightly, before such a quiet “yes” slips from his lips, that even the woman could hardly understand.
“You know, I’m sure you know the language of flowers. It can’t be a coincidence that you chose all these flowers here without knowing the meaning. The many chrysanthemums, the perfect red roses, these dark red almost black tulips, the small forget-me-nots, the laurel branches as well as the rosemary branches and last but not least the large white lily… I hope this young lady who gets this bouquet accepts your declaration of love.” She looks no further up to Geto, is busy tying the bouquet, which is full of red color, green leaves and an almost radiant white lily in the middle. Geto does not answer her either, because just as she does, he hopes that the woman for whom this bouquet is meant will accept him and reciprocate all that he feels for her.
It takes a while until the bouquet is ready, time in which his mobile phone vibrates in his pocket. A message from you. But just as he wants to answer it, he hears the lady announcing with joy that she has finished tying the bouquet. Since he doesn’t want to keep her waiting any longer, he puts away his mobile phone, looks satisfied at the gigantic bouquet, before he places the money on the counter and closes the flowers in her arms.
The last time she wishes him success, happiness and luck, as luck is what he will need, because time is against him. The party should start in less than an hour, and he still has to get back to college and get ready.
Quietly, he tries to sneak through the corridors, to not to attract attention before he finally arrives in his room, puts the flowers in a bucket of water and changes his clothes. The black suit pants, just a simple white shirt with his sleeves rolled up to the elbows, it’s too warm for a jacket.
He takes a deep breath, sits down on his bed to pull out a small box of memories from under his bed. Besides all the photos, the little presents you both made as children, he picks out a small box as he shoves the case back under the bed.
First he pauses, looks sharply at the small casket, and doesn’t know if he should free what’s inside it, if this is really right. But he opens it, exhales with a smile, as his thumb drives over the sparkling little object.
“Suguru, come on, or do you want to spend the evening alone?” Makes him Ieiri’s voice shrink. He quickly closes the small box in his hand, stands up to stow it in his pocket while he asks her in and reaches for the bouquet.
“Oh wow, these are for me? I didn’t know you felt that way about me.” She teases him. But Geto only clicks with his tongue.
“Stop it, you know who they are for.”
“Well, you better hurry. Because the knight with the white silky hair has already freed your princess from her tower and accompanied her to the feast.” Words that sound funny to her make Geto’s face serious, his steps faster.
His heart feels restless, almost strangled as he opens the door and looks directly at your shape. You’re beautiful. Your hair floats with almost every movement. You wear a dress that flatters your body like no other. It’s dark and tight on your form, only covering as much of your legs as a shirt of his. The edges are ribbed, bringing something playful to the sexy dress, which makes it look even more charming on you. Your radiant smile makes him melt, but the sight next to you breaks him, because you shine in Gojo’s arms, letting him carry you across the dance floor.
Geto knew it wasn’t a good idea. How could he have thought you could really remember your promise? It was so stupid of him. Rooted he looks at you, does not notice the people and music around him, only perceives you and his best friend.
How you move for minutes. Minutes that feel like a piercing eternity for Geto. You dance song for song until Gojo reaches for your hand and accompanies you outside and get out of Geto’s field of vision.
That doesn’t feel good. Everything here doesn’t feel right. He stops beside Ieiri for a moment before turning around and telling her privately that he will go up to his room. But she holds him by the arm, asks him to look at the drinks. Hoping she then lets him leave, his gaze wanders over, his eyes suddenly becoming big.
For he sees no one else but Gojo standing in front of Utahime, already annoyed by the faxes he makes in front of her. The only question in Geto’s head is how Gojo can make you wait for another woman. A new feeling spreads through him. Anger, not because he’s mad at Gojo, he’s upset, afraid that you might sit sad in the back garden of the hall, while he couldn’t think of anything but self-pity.
“Come on, prince, it’s time to steal your princess back.” Ieiri says satisfied, giving him a nudge in the right direction, before he pushes through the crowd and disappears from her field of vision.
As Geto walks away, Gojo comes closer to her, standing with a broad grin next to her. “You shouldn’t have invited her on a date.” She says crossed her arms in front of her chest.
“You bet! He needed the kick to finally face her as a man. It’s about time they get together. Even if it’s almost a pity. She looks really great today.” Gojo whines and looks at the door, while he gets a slap on the back of his head, which he probably deserved.
“How did you know it would work?”
“Because I know Suguru. No matter how happy he would be for her, in the end, he would never want to see her in someone else’s arms. Especially not in those of his best buddy. Because he’s hopelessly in love with her.”
Tumblr media
Your body is warm, the air around you cool, while the moon makes the fine beads of sweat on your skin sparkle like diamonds. Even though you were glowing earlier, laughing so much that your muscles are already hurting, you feel a strange emptiness in you. Worry about the man you’ve known for so long.
“Found you.”
You hear a voice that makes you look away from the bright moon. But instead of seeing a person, a huge bouquet blocks your view.
“What the… Sugu? Is that you?” You ask, try to recognize by the one word to whom this voice belongs. Even if you already knew, since you would remember his voice among thousands. Slowly the bouquet sinks, the man behind it becomes visible and blinks at you lovingly.
Uncontrolled waves come from your chest, a heartbeat that rings so loudly in your ears that you are not sure if you would understand Geto’s coming words.
“Mind if I sit here?” He asks you, the bouquet still stretched forward so that you finally accept it.
It lies heavily in your arms as you nod to Geto while the bouquet pulls your arms down a bit. To enjoy the scent better, you close your eyes and inhale the scent of all the flowers, before you open your eyes again and look at the bouquet. Through the dark night, you can’t recognize the colors but can make them out due to their outlines.
“What have I done to deserve such a bouquet?” Do you wonder, all the worry, all the grief that had taken over your thoughts before, is blown away now that you feel Geto’s warmth beside you. But he does not answer you, only smiles, while holding something small in his hand, it’s not recognizable to you, because it is as dark as the night.
“Remember when I picked you a bouquet when we were kid? Where I had stolen the red tulips from the front yard of the old lady across the street and then got into trouble?”
You have to laugh when you imagine the scene in your head. Geto’s mother was so mad at him, made him buy new tulips from his pocket money and plant them with the old lady and water them every day.
“Haha, of course! You really got so much trouble for the bouquet. But the tulips were beautiful!” You giggle  and lean your shoulder against his before you sit down straight and smell the flowers in front of you again.
“Do you know why I stole the tulips back then?” Asking, you look at him, you want to elicit the answer from him because you don’t know.
“Red tulips are the symbol of a declaration of love. That’s what my mother taught me.” He says calmly, his gentle voice kisses your ears as if they want to seduce you. Now you feel your body getting warmer despite the cold air, almost glowing.
“That was also the day I proposed to you, and your mother tried to tell me clearly that you would not be my wife that day. Do you remember?” This time you hear his voice shake, now that he’s laughing about his past behavior.
“Yes, I can. You promised to ask me again when we grew up. We were cute as kids, weren’t we?” You laugh bitterly, look up into the dark sky. For you it is clear that Geto only wanted to show you how naïve you were as children. A promise you made to each other at that time, long forgotten, until it eventually became nothing but a childlike memory.
Your laughter disappears into the darkness, and is trumped by the chirping of crickets. Geto, too, is silent, glancing inconspicuously at you from the small box that he moves back and forth restlessly between his fingers.
You are beautiful, always have been. Your eyes are so magical that they had captivated him ages ago. Your lips are so seductive that they often tempt Geto, because often his face hovered above yours, studying you as your chest slowly moved up and down like Sleeping Beauty in a deep slumber. Your lips were so attractive that he would have liked to kiss them, but he always deterred a few inches from them, stopped himself, as it was not right.
And now you’re sitting next to him, grown up, at the celebration to leave the second year behind, partying into the third. The day that has made his heart sleep restlessly for months, because that day was important.
His gaze wanders from you, back down to the little casket, which he still moves back and forth restlessly between his fingers. In it, something that will completely change the relationship with you, one way or the other.
He doesn’t know why, but his mother’s words suddenly haunt his mind. Her loving smile as she pushed the little box into his then so small hands. He still remembers well that she told him that at some point the day has come when he will open this box, face the woman who has stolen his heart and with whom he will enter a pact of love.
Firmly, he wraps the box with his hands, and breathes deeply before staring at you, calling your name into the night with determination.
With the seriousness of his voice, you’re almost startled when you look into his dark eyes. Otherwise, it is easy for you to read his emotions, but for the first time, he sits beside you, an indefinable book.
“What is it, Sugu?” You ask unsettled, place the bouquet beside you to turn to him. But he stops you in your movement, gets up and reaches out his hand to help you up.
“Are you okay?” You ask, still nervous, to take his help while he pulls you up. He refuses to answer you, just faces you mutely, the hand that helped you get up now on your cheek to take the one loose strand out of your face and put it behind your ear.
“S- Suguru?”
“Children may be naïve, but they are honest. Immaculate, with a pure heart. ”
His voice is as calm as a still ocean, his hand soft as a veil on your cheek. Your heart hurts, the places he touched glow, your thoughts are blank. You want to say something, but you don’t know what, don’t dare to interrupt him.
You observe his looks as they stay focused on your eyes, wander down to your mouth and you hold your breath as his warm thumb brushes your lips.
“I would not have thought that I would run out of words at some point, since I had written page by page with a declaration of love. But when I look into your eyes, I forget the words. When I hear your voice, I would want nothing more than to be woken up by it in the morning. When I see your smile, I want nothing more than to seal it with a kiss, to feel your smile on my lips. I know I could ruin everything with this, destroy our friendship, but no matter how naïve I was as a child, I never forgot my promise to you. Never, because I could never forget you.”
You feel your eyes getting warm, your lip shaking and your feelings spinning inside you. Geto’s words are so tender, so fragile, and so honest, they make you melt. All these years, had he felt that way about you?
Thoughtfully you open the mouth, close it again, and find no suitable words. But Geto wasn’t done yet with his declaration of love, which he already wanted to tell you through the language of flowers. Determined, he goes on his knee, his cheeks slightly reddish as they shine in the night. He looks at you embarrassed before he clears his throat and holds the object in front of you, you could not decipher in the dark. As in slow motion, the small box opens, in it a ring that shines brighter than the stars in the sky.
“Back then, too young, too naïve and small, I promised you I’d marry you. Now, as an adult, guided by our own will, I want to keep the promise. Wondering if you want to be the love of my life as my bride by my side. To laugh with me and cry. To create a family together with me. Because I can’t just see you as a friend, and I never will. You’re my best friend, my therapist when I’m sick, my sun that warms me, my soul mate, and the only true love I’ve ever had. So I ask you, with all my heart, will you allow me to be your husband and marry me?”
The tears now flow freely from your cheeks. Your hands tremble in front of your body, and all the feelings you had for him, knowing it was more than friendship, were reciprocated. They have probably never been at the level of a friendship, always a level of love.
You nod quickly, shout a sobbing “yes” to him, which sweeps so easily from your lips, but for Geto it felt like an agonizing eternity to get the answer he had always hoped for. He carefully fetches the ring from the casket, puts it around your delicate ring finger, as if it is made of porcelain, before he straightens up and throws you a loving, but also facilitated, look. A look that shows you nothing more than pure happiness.
His big hand strokes your cheek, searching for hold at the back of your head, while the other hugs your waist and tenderly pulls you towards him.
“I love you.” He whispers, as he seals his words with a kiss full of love.
Your warm lips cannot let go of each other, while your tongues dance together. Your hearts are now racing in unison.
Children are naïve, but they are pure. Pure as the love that bound you from the beginning held you captive in friendship until it was finally liberated and blossomed secretly, silently, in the sound of your kisses.

La Mia Seconda Venuta metterà fine al tormento che avete sopportato per migliaia di anni sulla terra. March 24, 2021 at 04:00AM
