The alarm clock clattered unceremoniously to the floor. You groaned, pulling the blankets over your head to take a moment to mentally prepare yourself to get out of bed. It was a daily tradition. Well minus knocking the poor alarm clock to the floor. You really hoped it wasn’t broken. That would suck. Okay, okay enough stalling. If you take too much longer someone will come in to check on you and you have a 50/50 chance they’d be gentle when waking you up. You didn’t feel like having ice cubes shoved down your shirt again. Or yanked out of bed. You dramatically flung your blanket towards the foot of your bed and used the momentum to sit yourself up. You swung your feet over the side of the bed. You stood up and quickly got dressed and headed to go get breakfast.

At the table sat your girlfriend Xion, Lea, and Isa. You and Xion had confessed your feelings for each other last year. At least you weren't the last one awake. Breakfast today seemed to be omelets, hash browns, and gravy. It looked delicious. There was already a plate waiting for you on the table. So you settled into your spot and began to tear into the meal.

“Thank you, Isa, this is delicious!” You smiled at the grumpy adult.

“Hey!” Lea huffed. “How do you know Isa made them? What if I made them?”

“Then the house would be burnt down, wouldn’t it?” Roxas responded, walking over to his spot at the table next to you. His hair was still messed up from his sleep the night before, He still looked tired. And it didn’t surprise you. You had the middle room. Often nights you could hear Roxas up until the odd hours of the night. Or, on the odd occasion he fell asleep before you, you could sometimes hear him sleep talking through the wall. You couldn’t make out what he was saying, but you could guess what his nightmares were about.

Xion would play music when she couldn’t sleep. That’s how you knew she had a bad night. You guess that she thought if she hid the sounds of her breakdowns, then you wouldn’t know. But it was clear when she would emerge from her room, eyes puffy and face streaked with tears that she’d aggressively wiped away.

Isa would isolate on his bad days. There would be days you wouldn’t see him at all. The only one whom Isa would allow to see him was Lea. Lea told us it was because Isa felt guilty for how he treated us back then. Especially Xion. Finally, there was Lea, Lea tried to hide his bad days from us. He would act overly cheerful. Like he was scared to show us he was affected by the organization too. you mean you got it. We all tried to keep our scars hidden from each other. We all had issues from the organization.

You had bad days too. You’d stay in bed on those days. Bundled in blankets, away from the world.

You didn’t call attention to Roxas’s state. No one else did either. “So, I was thinking for our day out, we could go out in town later? Hit the bistro for lunch and maybe hit the movies? Me and Xion could go shopping while you guys do something else?” You recommended, It was a nice day, and that sounded like a fun way to decompress. And it seemed that everyone felt the same way. A chorus of agreements sounded out from around the table.

Roxas grinned. “Don’t think I don't realize you’re stalling our struggle tournament training.” He teased, tossing a light punch on your shoulder.

“Prove it.” You said, sticking your tongue out at him before turning your attention back towards eating your breakfast. Soon you were finished eating and you paused to look at the chore chart. Made by Isa, to make it ‘fair’. It was made all the way back when you had all moved in together. This week was your turn to do the dishes. So you gathered them all and washed them. Finally, you could go out to town and start your day.

Xion walked beside you, matching your steps while you chatted about anything and everything that came to mind. Your hand found its way into hers.

“So, wanna go shopping first? I think Roxas Is gonna hang out with Hayner and his friends. He’s pretty stocked up.” You asked, resting your head against her shoulder. “I could personally use some more tents. Never enough potions.”

Xion took a small moment to think the suggestion over. “Alright. We could also buy some snacks to take to the movies.”

“Shit. You’re a genius” You whispered, grinning widely. “Come on!” you tugged her along

Xion let out a squeak and laughed as you dragged her along to the first few shops. You two stopped in a few different shops. Some sold clothes with you and Xion showing off outfits, (Honestly, you felt Xion could pull off anything she wore. Damn you were down hard). Some sold candy and sweets, which you and Xion excitedly loaded up on for the movies, and for late-night snacking sessions. Others just sold the odd accessories that you and Xion showed off to each other, giggling about the price or absurdity of some of them.

You swung your and Xion's arms happily, humming and skipping. “Alright, ready to head on over to the movies? They should be starting the next one soon.” You asked Xion, resting your head on her shoulder.

“Yeah, sure. I’m sure that’d be a welcome break for our wallets.” She joked, pulling you slightly closer.

“You weren’t complaining when we were buying.” You shot back, moving up to kiss her cheek. You began to lead the way towards the movies. “You think the boys will be there yet?”

“Absolutely no clue. Though I'm guessing by now Isa will be craving an excuse to go somewhere he has an excuse to be quiet. So it’s incredibly possible”

The two of you continued on as a comfortable silence settled over you. Xion had begun to sway your hands back and forth. The sun warmed your backs. It was very peaceful. This was the best kind of day. Everyone was in a good mood and even the weather seemed to cooperate. The little corner the movie screen was hidden in was starting to come into view and you could easily make out the blue and red of your friends' hair. There was no getting lost in a crowd when their hair stood out like beacons amongst the mostly natural tones of twilight town. You and Xion let go of the other's hands and quickly jogged to catch up to the boys, waving to them.

Lea whipped around and grinned. “There they are. Hey Isa, found the two lovebirds!” He announced with a smirk, gesturing towards us.

The title definitely made you blush, and when you glanced at Xion you saw her cheeks sporting a similar red. “What movie are they playing?” You questioned.

“Looks like they’re gearing up for another Adventures of Mickey movie. I overheard them saying it should start in about 3 minutes. Didn’t think you were going to make it.” Roxas answered, head poking out from around the corner. “Come on guys. I already chose our spots.”

So with Roxas’s urging the four of you headed into the movie area. You crammed on a bench together, it was a tight fit but no one complained. The movie wasn’t one you had seen before, so it held the whole group's attention. And if you saw Xion tapping her toes in excitement or Roxas leaning forward in his seat, you’d never tell. Even Isa seemed interested in the movie, in his own ‘I show no emotions’ way. The movie wasn’t the best one you had seen, and it felt rather predictable, but man it was hard not to match the energy in the room.

When the movie finished the theater was filled with the sound of the projector shutting down and groups of people eagerly chatting about what they just watched and plans for after the movie. Your friend group was no different.

“So what was next?”

“Dinner at the bistro” Isa answered, standing up and stretching. A loud pop sounded from his back.

“Old man-” You quickly had to duck to dodge his swipe at you. You stuck your tongue out at him as the group started forward, spilling out of the tiny entrance. You headed towards the Bistro, listening in on the others' conversations. They were all basically talking about the upcoming struggle season. Who they thought would win, new strategies they’d like to try, and trash-talking each other in general. Though you had to try not to laugh at some of the trash talk Roxas was throwing at Isa. As if Roxas didn’t just barely reach Isa’s shoulders.

Nothing really noteworthy happened during dinner. You showed up, waited around for a minute then you were seated. You each ate in relative silence before heading home.

As you plopped on the couch and prepared to get settled in playing a game Roxas came up to you holding a struggle bat. It didn’t take a genius to figure out what he was about to ask you. You stood up and stretched. Sure why not.

Roxas led you to the backyard, trying to be a show-off and toss his bat between his hands. You grinned and shook your head at him. You picked up your struggle bat.

It didn’t take long for you to get into it. You two knew each other incredibly well from your time in the organization. You'd swing at his legs and he’d already be in the air by the time you got near him. He’d aim for your chest and you’d have leapt back by then. You just knew each other's fighting style a little too well. It was a game of endurance at that point.

It took a solid hour and a half of no progress being made in either direction before you slipped up. All it took was an uneven patch of land and you were on your ass with Roxas’s bat smacking you in the shoulder. You yelped in surprise. “Alright, alright I’ll get you back next time.”

“Yeah, well next time better be later, cus it’s getting late” Roxas walked past, ruffling your hair as you rolled your eyes.

“You’re just saying that because you know you only won cus I fell!” You huffed, getting up to follow him inside. Xion was seated on the couch, playing Mario Kart. You plopped next to her.

“Can I play with?” You asked. Xion nodded and got you ready for the next round. You both played, winning some and losing some up until about midnight. Eventually, after a yawn that shook your whole being, you and Xion decided to go to bed. And you fell asleep easily, knowing they’d be waiting for you tomorrow.

So I don’t know if you ever exactly dove in to it, but Axel did lie to Roxas and Xion. A lot. I know he genuinely cared about the two of them, but he also fucked up majorly and drove them away in the end. It sorta bothers me how many fanworks gloss over that!

I don't think I ever dove into it, no. All the fiddly bits of working out what happened immediately after Xion being remembered and Sora discovering he had people living inside him just weren't something I was interested in covering back when I started with KHΨ. That's why the sequence of events in the first four fics is a bit fluid, especially in Not Whole, Not Broken; nowadays I'd do a lot more grounding for the fic in terms of timeline and why Sora and Lea are both at the Mysterious Tower.

Thing is, though, finagling out those sorts of details still isn't that interesting to me. I'm the kind of person who wants to see what's new, where things are going next, rather than spending time coming to terms with what's already happened (which is a perfectly reasonable thing to be interested in! There's definitely a story in there, just not one I'm personally interested in trying to tell!). Let me tell you, while I'm enjoying the "prequel" games immensely on their own terms, I'm more interested in where Kingdom Hearts is going next, rather than "what has already happened". It's important context, sure, but it's predetermined: we all knew going in that Daybreak Town was going to fall, that Scala ad Caelum was going to be destroyed.

But that's digressing from the point. Getting back to it, yes I think there's a story in how Lea, Roxas, and Xion reconcile (and Xion and Roxas, for that matter, because remember she lied to him extensively as well). It's just not one that held any interest for me way back in 2017 compared to what I wanted to do (speaking only for myself, of course. I do not control what other people write, naturally) And if I can offer a gentle piece of advice: sometimes, if you want to see a certain story in the world, you end up having to put it out there yourself. ;)

"Come on, it wasn't even that hard of a fight. You're exaggerating~" Axel swung his sea salt ice cream over Roxas's head, slow enough for him to dodge, with a quick, reflex duck. His voice was sing-songy at the end, showing he was only goofing around. "I could have had him without your guys' help." he took a bite from the ice cream and immediately regretted it. "EmmmmMMMMM-hmm! Got my brain there!" he gripped his head as Roxas and Xion laughed at the sight.

"Serves you right, saying you don't need us." Roxas roasted right back, hitting Axel's shoulder a bit, "You need all the help you can get."

Xion leaned herself forward a bit, smiling cheekily, "Karma." Her face was bright and sweet, even in her teasing.

Roxas looked over to it, but Axel just lightly shook his head, looking away, "I should have never taught you guys that word..!" He threw up one hand in protest while they laughed behind his back, "Giving you all my knowledge,... just so you can use it against me. What kinda friends are ya?!"

"Uhh... your only kind?" Roxas teased, as Axel swung the ice cream near him again. "H-Hey! That almost got my nose!" Roxas smiled as Axel looked off into the distance with the sunset... the light not fading anytime soon.

"I have other friends, it's just... some are... lost, I guess." He took another contemplative look towards the yellow clouds and sky... His gaze moving upward, as though the heavens, "I've been thinking about them... a lot lately..." He then looked to the two again, seeing them clinging to every word, wondering about what he was saying. "But the universe decided to dump you lot onto me! What was I supposed to do? Put you boxes like small kittens and puppies? Leave ya on the side of the road! Barking and meowing for scraps?!" He kept swinging his arm as Roxas laughed and ducked, scooting over before bumping against Xion and flinching a moment, turning back to her and then moving back to his spot.

"S-Sorry..." He looked down a bit, and... Axel squinted his eyes, almost swearing that expression looked kinda like...

But love was impossible for a Nobody, they didn't have hearts to feel it.

Xion put the back of her hand down from her mouth, a little surprised, but shook her head with that same, calming, and soft smile decorating her gentle features. "Em-emm, it's alright." She assured him, and Roxas just grinned a bit awkwardly back at her, glad to receive that comfort.

"Aye, aye, aye... You two confuse me." He was only gone for a few days... how did they get so close?

He scratched the back of his head, but Xion got up first and he looked over in surprise, "You're leaving?" He didn't think she'd go that quickly, "What about the sunset? It's still pretty high up there on that horizon line, Xion." He waved his ice cream nonchalantly towards it being too early to go. "What about the countdown?" He joked, as they had a game where they would try and see who's countdown actually matched the descending sun. None of them really ever won, but it was fun to joke around and try it out with them anyway.

"I was given a job to do. See?" She summoned her keyblade, "It works now."

"I helped her with that!" Roxas reminded him, like they haven't shown it off every chance they got to...

"Riiiighhhtt..." Axel leaned his head forward, "Alright, take care." He lifted a hand to send her off, but was once again surprised in a bit of sad disappointment when Roxas got up as well.

"I'll go with you." He added, nodding to Xion.

She smiled, "I'd like that." Before both turned to him.

... What was he, now? A third wheel..?

"You want to come to? Axel?" Roxas tilted his head as though expecting him to jump up all excitedly and go, 'Would I!? Thank you ever so much!' but Axel's pride got a little in the way.

"Nah, you're golden." He fanned a hand back to them, looking back directly at the sunset. "I've got only these precious few hours off, why would I squander it off by going back to work, huh? Roxas and Xion chuckled, before Xion gracefully nodded her acceptance of his refusal. "See ya,... Axel."

"We'll come straight back. Promise..!" Roxas eagerly added, and the two gazed at each other a moment before Roxas offered her his hand, wanting to help her down, "Here." He added.

She smiled just a hint wider, and Axel's brows furrowed... He didn't teach Roxas that...

'These other worlds are getting to the kid's head.' he concluded, taking a 'smaller' bite of the ice cream and looking away.

... He looked back and noticed their hands still connected, just... what, looking at each other or something? Those sweet grins liked to just be painted on their faces like conjoined oil paintings, huh?

He finished off the ice cream, seeing their hands finally part made him at last look away as they rounded the clocktower's corner, going down.

"What am I moping about?" He gobbled up the ice cream, "No point if they're not around." He twirled the stick in his hands, "No winner again, huh?" Seeing the stick be blank, he put it in his mouth and got up, dusting off his hands and then rubbing them on his cloak.

"I'wll waswh iwt lawter." He mumbled with the stick still in his mouth, before looking down from the tower and seeing them again.

... He slowly... took his stick out of his mouth.

"... It's almost like..." He narrowed his eyes again, peering down at them, his lanky form following the action.

He was reminded of Castle Oblivion, Sora's reactions to Namine... thinking she was this 'Kairi' he seemed to have a close connection with... It couldn't be... could it?

If Roxas was his Nobody... would those feelings... persist?

'Even without a heart?' This grew his curiosity even more, somewhat exciting him as he wanted to watch them interact more.

In a bit of a spritzy side-jump, he watched them closely, moving his head about as though trying to get a better view of them down below him. "~I can't see what's happening... and they certainly have no clue.~" he began to sing, "~Their acting all wrong, and here's the bottom line...~" He swung himself back to the front with a full hop, "Our trio's already on the rocks!"

He raced down, "~Is it this sweet caress of Twilight?~" He skidded down some railings, "~What's this magic everywhere?~" He jumped to the stairs.

"~Is my vacant chest remembering this atmosphere..?~" He stopped halfway down the tower to lean over and peer again from the side of a window, looking to see Saix... Eh, he was probably being mean, and Roxas defending Xion, swinging an arm in front of her and rushing to the front...

Intrigued, his eyebrows rising at the tension and drama forming below that he couldn't make out, Axel kept moving his arms down the windows, "~Disaster's in the airrr~" He then bolted to catch up with them.

"She's not just a puppet!" Roxas spat out, summoning his own Keyblade, "Don't you have anything better to do than to pester us!?"

Saix's eyes narrowed, his jealousy overwhelming, then looking up to see Axel racing past the clocktower's windows to make it down to them.

"... Our Master has asked that you both be assigned separately.. Sorry, no tag-teaming today." He threw out his arm, separating Roxas from Xion.

"Ah! Xion!" Roxas reached out a hand but Saix was now perfectly between them, and glaring down at Xion.

"Rox-.. Ah." She also reached out, but the condescending look from Saix made her stutter, catching her breath as she stepped back and away from him.

"Get to your duties... Roxas." Saix moved his head forward, not looking at either one of them. "Now... before you keep proving yourself useless to us..."

"Oh..." Roxas also stepped back, something hurting from those words, but what? He turned to look away and shake a fist in the air, before dropping it, but keeping it tightened by his side, "Okay..." He reluctantly stated and turned around... walking away before rushing off.

When he was significantly gone, and Xion was about to turn to do her own tasked duties elsewhere, Saix immediately swung around to face her, "~Remember, little puppet... The world is cruel...~" he walked by her, "~This world is wicked~" Xion found herself looking to him, her mouth somewhat agape. "~There's not a soul that you can trust in this whole city~" He swung back around, "~You have no friends...~"

"That's not true!" she countered, but he glared deeper.

"~The organization keeps you, dresses you.~" He lowered his chin, "~We who took upon you our own dreams...~" Not fully the truth, but he gestured a hand to her as though showing some merciful gentleness, even if it was only for an instant. "~How can you disappoint us, girl, unless you stay in line... always in line...~" He charged towards her before stopping to delicately lower a finger to her, a tough reprimand.

"~You are a puppet~" He reniforced.

"~I am a puppet...~" She responded her uniqueness given to her from Roxas's memories of Sora's Kairi reverting her back into the stale personality she once was before.

"~Why invite needless scrutiny?~" He reached behind her for her hoodie.

"~Only a puppet...~" She ducked her head... as though accepting it.

He hesitated to put it back over her head when his eyes darted to where Axel was rushing to meet her, "~Do as we say... Obey... and remain... in lineeee~" He tucked his hands back behind him, deciding he was out of time. He walked off, ignoring Axel's calls to him, and smirked subtly on his exit... knowing what he had done.

'You can never be one of us.' He thought to himself, 'Axel is only setting himself up for disappointment... It's all a waste of time. If he won't help me find her... I'll find her myself.'

Xion... just kept her head down as Axel rushed to her side, "Xion! What'd he say to you? That little..!" He shook his fist in the air and then threw it down, unable to help his memories resurfacing of Isa, once his closest friend... Is kinda was, in his-... uhh, well, he just still is. "Xion? You okay?" He put his hands gently to her shoulders and had to part his legs a bit to lean down to her level.

Gosh, all his friends were shorties.

"Xion?" He noticed she didn't look back up at him.

She moved one of his hands off her shoulder in a sliding gesture with her own hand, "Axel... I have to get to work now." She stood silently, waiting for him to let her go.

"Ah... oh... Okay... Take... care?" He moved slowly out of her way, removing his other hand as she walked along her way. "... Huh, what got into her?" He looked to Saix, gritting his teeth and tightening his fists, "Saix..!" He growled out and took off after him, 'What'd you say, you little... gah, smartmouth!', He charged forward, unable to say anything too horrible... they were supposed to be on the same team, after all... "I'll get you back this time!"

Xion walked before her energy to keep her steps up grew faint, and she felt for the first time tears starting to form on her cheeks. Surprised, she touched her cheeks, then went to pull her hoodie up as though to reset herself... but just... couldn't.

She let the fabric drop to her shoulders, "~Look at me... I will never pass... for a perfect replica... or a perfect puppet...~" She swayed to keep herself moving, her sorrows adding up, trying to press on... but stumbling as she walked, looking almost rag-doll-like in her movements to try and not completely crumble to the ground. "~Can it be..? I'm not meant to play... this parrrrt~" She spun herself around as the scene changed and she was Sora, looking over Destiny Island's seashore. "Now I see~ If I were truly to beeee myself~" Sora's image sang with passion, but placed his fists on her chest, closing his eyes. "~I would break and my best friends would part...~" She reverted back to herself, feeling a coma sinking in...

She wandered through Twilight Town, singing, "~Whooooo is that boy I see? Staring straight, back at me...~" She looked into a shop's window, seeing Sora yet again, and having both the reflection and herself touch their respective cheeks. "~Is he staring... back at me?~" She shook her head, rushing off from the image and to the side, conflicted. "~Is this--reflection?--someone I'mmmm supposed to knowww?!~" She looked confused, was it really her? That boy... the fake organization member... wearing the cloak... blindfolded with white, silvery hair... His words continued to plague at her being. "Some~ One~ Explain to me~ Who I am... Because I try, desperately my reflection shows... Another me inside...~" She cupped her fingers over each other, all her memories confusing her now, flooding into her almost... but from what source?

"~When will my...~" She had to turn her head to riff a quick high note before continuing, "~Reflection... show?~" She summoned her keyblade, skimming a hand over it as she knew it was Sora's... but also... came with Roxas's support and aid in being able to summon it. "~Who I want to be...~" She closed her eyes, looking up and hugging the Keyblade, remembering the day he saw a face to her... and gave her something she longed for.

Identity, "~Who he sees... insideeeee~" She let the Keyblade down and, although woozy from the memories rushing in, stumbled and wobbled into a darkness portal to try and complete her mission.

It wasn't until later that she would wake up... with shells by her bedside...

--- Water Aspect had found such comfort and pleasure in working at the Death household, surrounded by laughter and love in so many forms- each presence was unique and each budding relationship unfurling in front of his eyes felt like a comfort; a family if he'd ever known one. --- To this end, he'd already made quick and seamless work in moving a ladder beneath a tree, crawling up a few of the steps with a pleasant tune in his chest and hummed through lips. ' I'll fill the basket...and hand it to you? ' he suggested, assisting one another would make this so much easier, after all. Beginning to pluck ripened fruit from branches, and settling them comfortably into the basket on the top level of the ladder so as to not bruise them, he couldn't help but glance behind him and chuckle.

--- ' It's a strange change of pace, being taller than you, for once! ' a bubble of laughter, before head cants as he addresses the equine with both curiosity and adoration. ' another bite is taken of supple innards and slightly waxed flesh- and after those, he held the fruit out to the other in the palm of hand, with inclined head in the case that companion might desire to taste, as well. this is super late but heck yeah I do!

Vexen:

On some level, deep deep down, he knows that he can be insufferable. But he thinks everyone else is worse.

Always has a hundred things bouncing around his head, so he has a hard time sleeping most nights.

Which also means he's usually up really late working on things.

Is one of those people who would ask for help through gritted teeth if he really needed it, but then immediately turn and complain that they're doing it wrong and kick them out.

Tolerates Zexion more than the other members, but he also infuriates him more than the others. It's a double-edged sword, really.

Hates repeating himself, a lot.

Absolutely complains about people behind their back, but isn't above doing it to their faces, either.

Prefers not to sit still or lounge when he could be working on something.

Because of that, he isn't a big fan of leaving the castle for missions.

Larxene:

Her and Marluxia are pretty close to inseparable.

They get together to plot (obvs), but also just to complain about the other members or their missions.

Demyx is her #1 target because he makes it so easy.

But she will absolutely go after any member that irritates her.

Is absolutely the "I'll hate you first so you can't hate me" kind of person.

She has no idea what her hair is doing either.

Since she can control lightning, having her outside during a lightning storm is VERY dangerous!!

If she's bored, she will electrify the furniture in the Gray Area so whoever sits or lays on it next will get shocked.

Unfortunately, she gets bored very easily.

Roxas:

Would like to have a skateboard collection someday, even if he can't quite justify it.

Has an absolutely awful fashion sense. No one really taught him what looks good with what, so he just sticks with what he has.

Loves trying new food, even if he doesn't think he'll like it.

Has a soft spot for cats, kittens, and everything in between.

Skips breakfast most days and will argue with anyone who tries to make him eat it.

A tad overprotective of his friends, with a tendency to get angry easily.

But it's just because he wouldn't know what to do without them.

Ventus:

Because of Aqua's baking, he's a huge lover of all things dessert.

Has nightmares a bit, but usually can't remember them when he wakes up.

He also has no idea what causes them.

Is somehow both a cat and a dog person at the same time.

Doesn't handle caffeine particularly well and can mistake the caffeine rush as panic.

Absolutely stresses out over what to buy people when it comes to gifts and gift giving. He wants it to be the best present, so he can end up with five items for one person, each one he thinks outclassing the next.

Loves simple games and puzzles, even if he's not the best with them.

Namine:

Her handwriting is actually pretty messy!

Always puts other's needs and emotions before her own.

Would love to get into baking and cake decorating but isn't sure where to start.

Loves pressed flowers and will sometimes try it out herself, even if it does make her a little sad.

Enjoys sunlight and gentle breezes. Spring is definitely her favorite season.

Wants to be friends with everyone, but also feels like she doesn't deserve it.

Demyx:

He's actually pretty clever, but he only uses it to avoid his responsibilities.

Keeps the other's up at night playing his sitar.

Will try almost any food at least once.

Doesn't actually write down his songs. He just memorizes the rhythm, and then how to play it.

Will tune his sitar even if he doesn't have to just to keep his hands busy.

Hoards snacks, shares with Xigbar, Roxas, Xion, and Luxord.

Absolutely tries to sleep forever, but would get bored if he were actually allowed to.

Luxord:

The expert of minding his own business.

But because he minds his own business, people tend to talk around him.

He knows more inconsequential things about the other members than anyone else.

Enjoys playing cards with Xigbar, because he always cheats. It gives him the extra challenge of figuring out how to win without breaking the rules.

Is a stickler for rules, but is always bending them.

Day 2~ Inventory

For day two of @khoc-week we have Inventory. Yuki is very much the pack light type of person with not a whole lot of planning. The most she ever carried with her were the usual items, potions, elixirs, ethers, things she’d need for fights later. But one thing she always carries, at least after a certain point in her journey, is her camera, a gift from another oc. Yuki learned that there was very little room for things to remember the journey by, and the best she could do is hold on to the memories.

Yuki was careful to be silent as she slowly gathered the items she would need for her next adventure. She wasn’t sure she was going to have much more time, X and Y had said they needed to go soon, but all the same she couldn’t risk being completely unprepared as she left the Islands. What would happen if they needed to do something dangerous? Something that got her and the twins hurt, and she had no potions? An amusing thought considering Y’s proficiency with white magic.

The bag Yuki always carried on her hip was small, but always managed to hold just what she needed. Usually it only carried the items she needed on the various missions she had when she was a part of the organization. Different potions, and elixirs, and the items she picked up while exploring. A notebook for the rare times she was sent to recon worlds. She never actually used it to take notes like she meant to. But it was always with her for the day she didn’t get lost in wonder at how different the new world would be. It had been over a year since she had left the organization, yet she still carried the same things.

Yuki let out a gentle sigh as she brushed her hand over the notebook. She glanced up, looking around her room. A room she was still learning to call her own. It was painted a light blue, something she liked at the very least. She had been told as a child she had loved it. Most of things in here were things from that childhood she didn’t really remember. Toys and games, a few gifts from family.

Her eyes fell on the only object that stood out, the one she had almost forgotten she had had. The one thing that wasn’t from the islands, but from the other heartless.

It was a small square of sorts, and there were various buttons on the sides and a circle on the front that would stick out when she turned it on. A camera, as Zakey had told her.

Yuki picked up the camera, lightly turning it over in her hands. It had been drilled into her the camera was precious and very easily broken. She had spent a good few nights that could have been spent sleeping on learning all the tricks Zakey had to show her about the little device. Following the instructions she remembered she turned the camera on, the screen on the back lighting up.

With the ease of a few buttons Yuki found herself scrolling through the images kept on the camera. Most of them were things Zakey had taken pictures of. Various members of both organizations. Quite a few of a member of Organization XIII Yuki wasn’t familiar with, a man with long black hair streaked with silver and an eye patch. And some of X and Y, both together and on their own. X rarely noticed when she was taking pictures of him, and when he did it was usually accompanied by a glare and a rude gesture. Y at least always smiled at her when she noticed.

Cameras were for pictures of friends, and making sure no matter what the memory stayed fresh. That’s what Zakey had said. Yuki hadn’t put much thought in it until now.  She didn’t have any pictures of the Nobodies; Axel, Roxas, Namine, and Xion. She hadn’t thought she would need them. They were always going to be together.

The idea almost made her laugh, if only to draw her attention from the tightness in her chest. Looking back she couldn’t believe she had thought like that. Maybe it was just because of the way she lived now. With people she had once been unable to remember, and that now didn’t remember her friends. Well, sometimes they mentioned Roxas, and even more rarely did they bring up Axel. But Xion, no one had remembered her for a long time. Just Yuki.

It was almost without thought that Yuki turned off the camera and carefully stored it in her bag. She wanted to make sure she had it.

She would make the memories last.

Hwan loves kisses, cuddles and so on. Kisses were during all day long with cuddles during the night and off time. You came to visit your short yet loveable boyfriend at the studio.

Your arrive was a surprise cause Hwanwoong was busy learning the choreography. When it was break time, Hwan saw you and came rushing towards ya an with a cute smile. "Baby, when did you show up!" Hwanwoong was very happy to see you. As his s/o, you smile and gave him a kiss as he hugged you close to him.

You are Xion cuddle bear. When he is busy, you get short and quick hug/kisses. When he is on break or has time off, you get long and passion kisses/hugs. Xion loves to have cuddle session during movies or in bed.

"I'm sorry love, I'm busy getting these lyrics done" Today Xion was helping out with the lyrics for their next song. You pout and give him a quick kiss on the cheek before going to your shared room to lay down. Xion loves you but until he gets the lyrics done, he could cuddle or give you a proper kiss.

Soon as he gets done with the lyrics. Xion went to your guys room to see you laying on the bed. Joining in and lightly caresses your cheek softly. He gently wrap an arm around your waist and pulls you close to him an cuddles.

Preparations for Terra-Week 2023 ain't going smoothly like I originally thought they would. As soon as the prompts were released, Terra said that he was going to help me and that we were going to do it together; but over the last few days, my subconscious has gone in and sabotaged his energy... 😤

I began to write a letter in my diary tonight, but then Lea/Axel intervened and had an amazing convo with me. I decided to share it to show how preparations for Terra-Week are going:

Letter: "Dear Kingdom Hearts (+Jak), I don't know who the hell I'm writing to or what I'm specifically doing any more; it's a shambles. I know I just told a number of you to piss off, and for Aqua to watch some boundaries; so I understand if some can't work with me or receive me right now... Axel?".

Conversation:

Lea: "Hey there, this is Lea".

Me: "Sorry, I just find it cooler to call you Axel".

Lea: "No problem. Either one's fine".

Me: "So why have you responded?".

Lea: "I just wanted to tell you that everyone in Master Yen Sid's tower gets where you're at. You didn't tell the Guardians of Light to piss off; just the ones that would weirdly talk to you from across the generational void, like some mysterious master in a black coat, not named Xehanort".

Me: "But then I also just recently gave Aqua a piece of my mind, so that's eliminated the possibility of help from her".

Lea: "Eh, she's a Matriarch that one... Both in a good way and not so good way. I've noticed that you don't like people with too authoritarian tendencies; and even though she's an ISTJ, she's probably close to an ISFJ like your dad, just one letter difference. You've seen how she acts with me. Too much fun and she'll bite your head off. She and I clash like water and fire; so I understand you. Whereas you like Terra because he's always gentle with you and lets you be yourself".

Me: "Where is Terra these days? Where has he gone?".

Lea: "I dunno; he shouldn't be too far away. Now I don't know about the Wayfinder trio, but I'm not gonna let you suffer alone while you wonder about what happened to your dream guide. He'll be back. And while you're waiting, you can hang with any of us. Perhaps you and I can go to some of the places you've been with him?".

Me: "Now how can you comprehend places such as Neverland, Olympus and the Castle of Dreams? The only BBS location you've been to is Radiant Garden, and you may not want to frolic around in the Keyblade Graveyard".

Lea: "Oh please, Disney worlds, I can go to any of 'em. We have this partnership deal in place where we can openly traverse any Disney world we choose. But if it's just me you've got doubts about, then you can take Xion or Roxas. Or you can go with Riku since he's your other dream guide".

Me: "Thanks for the offer anyway, Axel. I'll consider it. But what I find the dirtiest out of all of this is that Terra's energy had to dissipate smack-bang in the middle of my preparations for 'Terra-Week'. He promised to help me and we were really going to bond over these tasks. So what am I supposed to do? I'll run out of time if I try and get him back because the energies are being difficult".

Lea: "Look; assuming this absence is out of his control, I think he'd want you to press on with or without him. Imagine how devastated Terra would be if he came back after the fact and found out that his absence was the reason you failed Terra-Week. He'd be sulking the whole house down and he'd never forgive himself. As hard as the situation may be, we've got your back. You can ask any of us if you need some insights about Terra, and so far Riku's done a great job on taking you through that first drawing. You're in good hands. And as long as you keep Terra in your heart, you'll be back in his arms before you know it".

Xion is simultaneously, extremely emotional and extremely unemotional. 

Compartmentalization is the valuable skill of taking conflicting, dissonant, painful thoughts, and putting them aside for later. Every morning that Xion embarked on that day’s mission she underwent the arduous task of taking all that occurred the night before and putting it aside. Even if she didn’t sleep, or the nightmares were particullary vicious, forget about it, there is only the mission. During the mission things can and will go wrong (and she obeys Murphy’s Law), adapt, improvise, figure it out, keep moving. She returns from her mission, tired, exhausted, and Saïx berates her and Axel isn’t talking to her, go to bed, try to sleep off the wounds from fighting. Wake-up the next morning, ignore yesterday’s injuries and the nightmares, go on her mission, meet the quota-- 

So long as there is something to do there is no appropriate time to express emotion. A heartless, empty, puppet like her can’t even feel emotions. Any exhaustion, frustration, pain, or sadness is an aberration to be dismissed or punished. She cannot miss her quotas either, those are do or die and no excuse ever rose to that level. Even when out of the Organization, Xion found she could never waste time on sentiments. She had to find food, had to make camp, had to keep moving, more heartless to fight, more enemies to fight, more secrets to uncover, more to learn-- On and on, there was always something to do. And when you’ve lived like she has, the stakes all feel morbidly perilous. After all, the worst thing Xion can be is useless. 

Xion learned to not only to ignore her feelings but also to never express them. She’s quite calm, stoic, and level-headed, ask her question and the answer is rational. For everything she does she’s come-up with two dozens reasons why. It all has practical benefit and justifications. Xion is usually quite reserved and almost professional, when interacting with new people. She is hard to read and that is on purpose. People cannot be trusted and more than that they just don’t care about how she feels. How she feels doesn’t matter and has no bearing. Keep it out of the conversation.

Except, Xion does have emotions and she has a lot of them. She is angry, she is sad, she is scared, she is upset, and frustrated, and annoyed, and is also three years old, with absolutely no coping skills to manage those feelings. Even more than that, Xion doesn’t know how to handle other people’s feelings. She is an empathetic bleeding heart who is often paralyzed with confusion when encountering someone else’s pain. And don’t get her started on positive emotions like happiness or love, those are frivolous and silly, and do not matter. Her usual reaction to an emotional outburst on her own part is to sequester herself away until it has passed and she can return with her composure. It is the safest, more reasonable response.  

In essence, Xion is someone who expresses nothing and feels everything. Because she is so young her leash on her emotions is short and her control poor. It is very easy to rile her up and having her snapping in anger, paralyzed with fear, or crying from pain. She hates these responses and denies she has them at all. The greatest difficulty Xion has after KH3, is that she not only finds herself with a surplus of time to ruminate on these emotions but all the reason to confront them.

Due to that scene where the sea salt trio is pushing each other off the clock tower and those little bits in the manga where they all push each other around, I headcanon the sea salt trio as being very aggressively physically affectionate.

Roxas and Xion will come up to Axel and kick him in the shins and he’ll be like, “I love you guys too.”

Axel gives intense noogies to Xion and especially Roxas. That’s why his Roxas’ hair is so crazy.

They all flick each other on the head if the other is being annoying, or just because.

They do the “friendly elbow” thing to each other all the time, but they really put some oomph into it.

They kick each other under the tables whenever the Organization XIII eats together. Xion does it the most, and her ridiculously pointy feet hurt.

They do the thing where you aggressively bump into each other while they’re walking as a group.

Axel’s very good at controlling his movements, so he never genuinely hurts the kids.

Roxas doesn’t control himself as well, but feels super bad if he accidentally bruises someone.

Xion tries to be gentle, but she’s also prone to accidentally hurting people, especially when her power levels fluctuate.

Xion actually cried when she found out some of her kicks left bruises.

Roxas is pretty good at telling Xion when she’s going overboard, but Axel will never admit when he gets hurt because it would be really embarrassing to say, “yeah, my younger siblings beat me up when we were play-fighting.” Xion also hates admitting she’s hurt.

When Xion was draining Roxas’ power, she was an absolute beast. She’d elbow Roxas and he’d just collapse. She freaked out and felt super bad every time.

riku: the moon complimentary to the sun that accidentally tried to murder the sun in a jealous fit Once Upon a Time

kairi: would-be sunshine incarnate but can actually commit atrocities if sunshine incarnate were to get hurt

roxas: a bit on the aggro side and still retains traces of his emo phase but otherwise a chill dude to hang out with

xion: lost-lamb with nothing but good intentions, a bit of a malleable teen. if you don't keep an eye on her she'll start brooding in her head

axel: the older-brother type friend who feels really responsible on the outside but has nothing going for him on the inside, whose main virtue is that he's dependable. probably has imposter-syndrome issues

isa: the older-brother type you know has nothing going for him, but he's been in so many fights before you're too scared to call him out on it lest you get fucking whomped

namine: softspoken girl everyone seems to know but no one ever knows. on the klutzy side, ready to fend you off with a sketchbook that weighs more than it looks

repliku: absolutely aggro, but in the "diversity wins!" kinda way in that he's aggro with morals. you love to hate him, you can't live without him. pretends not to have a vendetta against riku but absolutely has it out for the dude

aqua: the older-sister type, who's actually dependable and actually has her shit together. feels bad depending on her because too many people depend on her, but responsibility comes naturally to her and she seldom sees any task as burdensome

terra: another older-brother type but with Himbo vibes. absolutely will yeet a baby for their entertainment. is the "do not" on the wiki-how for interacting with babies

ventus: takes after aqua in a lot of respects & accidentally becomes more of a maternal figure as opposed to a paternal one. gives off big-sibling vibes when with anyone younger than him, but when he's with aqua he wants to be spoiled. liable to having some obsessive qualities if he goes unchecked

vanitas: brooding, liable to throwing hands. more level-headed than most, but more naive than most, too. pretends that he's not naive by denying every claim made towards him, but is absolutely the kid that'll do "bloody-mary" if you look the other way

eraqus: where terra gets his Himbo from. on the naive side, but a man with responsibility so deeply etched into his being that he gives off an air of wisdom. has absolutely microwaved a fork before

xehanort: actually probably one of the most sane of the bunch with a flare for the dramatic. more independent than interdependent, but is absolutely resentfully dumbass-sexual

urd: always ready to throw hands. probably not a very strong sense of responsibility but enjoys when people perceive her as dependable. likes to know everyone's business, never tells anyone what business she knows

vor: no one has anything bad to say about her because she's inconceivably more responsible than everyone else, while simultaneously being one of the most gentle souls in the group. happy to give you what you need until you mess up the first time, but if you keep messing up her smile becomes more sinister. will let you die on-field if you made her mad that week

bragi: "watch me do a backflip" & lands on his back. totally capable of taking a hit, and gets hit more than he likes to admit. an air of cockiness surrounds him, but he actually doesn't think more of himself. swag kid

hermod: probably actually one of the most dependable in his group if not the most dependable. likes taking a team-leader position, hates it when people go rogue in whatever operation he's plotting. hates it when things go awry in general. not very flexible to what life throws at him

baldr: "the teacher's kid" tries to do everything in his power to dissociate himself from that title. inevitably ends up being really cool & likeable by pure force of will. will bromance you even if you're non-romancable

ephemer: no one really understands how he came into a position of power. he doesn't even understand it. he doesn't consider himself much of a leader, but you hear him debating something politics-related Once & suddenly understand. charisma incarnate with a dollop of whipped cream on top

skuld: will stab a bitch don't test her. most of her wardrobe is leather & black, the girl you didn't know if you wanted to date or wanted to be in school. unexpectedly maternal

brain: "i haven't slept in 6 days and i'm running on nothing but espresso" freak that gets emo when he's left alone with his thoughts too long. "i'm chill, i'm low-maintenance" is the least chill & most high-maintenance kid you could possibly know

lauriam: kinda oblivious, bad at taking hints. either talk straight to him or don't talk to him at all. you know this man smells like roses but you forget that roses smell like old women so it's a jarring juxtaposition when he walks by

elrena: ikemen-holic. she can keep a relatively straight face and amicable front but she's like sakura haruno in that her inner monologue is always violent and ready to rumble. don't be shocked if she has photo cards of idols. puppy love is a good look on her tbh

strelitzia: the type of girl you know who has crippling anxiety that's so bad it comes full-circle and she's an inextricably capable person for fear of being a burden on others. the type of friend who's scared to do anything on her own but can do the same task if it's for other people

yozora: if it weren't for the fact that the (read: his, probably) world was ending and the lives of thousands/millions of others were on his shoulders, this man wouldn't do anything ever. you'd sooner find him sleeping in his own car before you found him living up to the expectations bestowed upon him. let the man sleep, it's all he wants to do

The Spiral Hill

Pairing: Axel x Reader, platonic Roxas and Xion x reader

Just a bunch a lil Halloween fun with my fave trio! Love these guys. Got it memorized?

Roxas and Xion have never done trick or treating before. As their accidental sort of paternal figure in their life (not that you were complaining) you decided you had to teach these adorable darlings about Halloween

They have a lot of fun picking out costumes and trying on different things, while creating a bucket list of everything they should do on Halloween night

You urged them to take it slow and that they’d have plenty of time to celebrate

Axel was also onboard with Halloween and decided you two HAD to wear a matching costume

The man is going through everything, these absolutely must be the best and most coordinated outfits ever

Accidentally says you look so cute when you try on your costume and he turns red and looks away. Like. Jeez Axel can you get ANY more corny???

He quickly brushes that embarrassment aside and is like “well of course we both look great since we match!” And gives you a heart-stopping cheeky wink and smile

Roxas and Xion chuckle quietly to themselves when they see you two awkwardly compliment each other

You guys make a stop to Halloween Town (in part thanks to Roxas begging to go there) and see your good ol pals Sally and Jack! Since it's Halloween, the big Pumpkin King parade is going on and you all watch in awe at the amazing tricks all of the citizens are doing.

Roxas and Xion immediately want to go trick or treat with the younger kids, and they tell you and Axel to go find more candy too

Since they're your kids, you can't possibly say no to that and set off in another direction to find more

You and Axel get to talk to Jack and Sally for a bit, and it's great to catch up with them! However Jack makes a comment that you two look splendid together and ohhhhh boy- do your faces turn redder than Axel's hair.

"We're not together!!!" you both shout, too embarrassed to look at the other

Sally giggles while Jack is surprised and quickly apologizes for his mistake

The night is pretty awkward for the most part after that, Axel trying to joke about how silly Jack is while glancing at you then looking away then glancing back at you and-

Okay maybe he's fallen pretty hard for you, but how the heck is he supposed to say that???

You end up running back into Xion and Roxas, who proudly show their spoils

They saw how awkward you both were and ask what happened, but neither of you could admit it.

That's when Xion mentions how the kids were talking about the "Spiral Hill"- a gorgeous hill that unfurls and curls to the Hinterlands.

Roxas immediately jumps and says you two should go check it out and see if it's scary or not!

You chuckle at his comment and agree, and before you know it, you two are alone again

You both walk across the empty and quiet graveyard trying to find this special hill

"I'm glad they're having fun." You mention. Axel nods and chuckles

"I've never seen them that happy in a while. I'm glad we could make this real for them." He sighed in content.

"Yeah, you'd think for a bunch of Nobodies we wouldn't be affected yet... it feels like when I had a heart again."

"Do you think we really have hearts?" Axel trails off. Maybe if he did then... then he could actually say what he felt

"I don't know. But I don't feel as empty as before... meeting you, Xion, and Roxas made me feel those emotions again. I feel more alive than when I first joined." You had a gentle smile on your face, one that Axel couldn't help but smile back at.

As you two continued, you found the gates to the fabled Spiral Hill.

"It's... really beautiful, actually."

Axel agrees and you both sit at the top of the hill, gazing at the large glowing moon

The anxiety and embarrassment from earlier faded, leaving only a comfortable closeness between the two of you

"Hey (Y/n)...." Axel begins, staring at the moon. You turn to him and are entranced by how his gorgeous emerald eyes are shining and his red hair is softly blowing in the wind

"Yes, Axel?" Your supposedly non-existent heart beat rapidly.

"You said you think we have hearts, right?" You hummed in response, and you felt his hand on top of yours. "Then... you think that what I'm feeling is real?"

"Well... depends on what you're feeling."

"Hey now, don't act clueless! I'm still a sensitive man, ya know?" He chuckled. You felt your face heat up, and you smiled.

"Then... I guess....maybe my feelings are real too." You nodded.

"That all you gotta say? Come on now, don't hold back on me babe!" he laughed, leaning closer to you. "I just... want to make sure that I'm not imagining this. I want this to be real. Even if we're not supposed to have these feelings I know I have something here!"

His words struck a chord in you and you held his hands tightly.

"Axel, I feel them too. It feels different than with the others. I know it's different. I know there's something here too. And it tells me that everytime I'm with you."

You both held hands and stared for a bit in each other's eyes. Hesitation, doubt, anxiety- things that were felt despite the emptiness you were told you were.

Without thinking, you pressed a quick kiss against his cheek. It was something you remember reading about with Xion and Roxas. That kisses express love.

The shock in his eyes was all too evident and he covered his face.

"H-hold on! Time out! You can't be so cute like that! Agh! So much for being suave..." he murmured. His face was red and you chuckled at his reaction.

"What's this? Axel can't speak anymore?"

"No way! I'm not nervous! Got it memorized?"

"Yeah, yeah, sure, you big fire-brain." You flicked his forehead and he pouted.

"I demand an apology kiss." He huffed.

"What's the magic words?"

"Please?" He begged

"It was 'trick or treat' but that works too." You leaned towards him and kissed him gently on his lips. You could fill his lips curve into a smile before he kissed you back and held you close.

You hummed as you both separated and leaned against his chest.

As you both were quietly enjoying the night, you heard a small "click" sound.

"Did you hear that?" You asked, immediately jumping into to a defensive position.

"Yeah I did, it came from over there." You two looked in the direction Axel pointed at before seeing two figures hide behind a pumpkin

"Shoot!" a familiar voice yelled in exasperation.

You and Axel put down your weapons and walked to the pumpkin, finding Xion and Roxas awkwardly laughing while the young boy held a camera.

"Guess we found some ghosts here, hm?" Axel smirked. "I think we have to teach them a lesson for spying on adults. What do you think, babe?"

The nickname made you smile, and you crossed your arms as you looked down at the two kids. "I think we should teach them a lesson. Maybe they should give us some of their candy. What do you think, dear?"

"I think that's a splendid idea." Axel smiled all too sweetly as he took their candy bags. "And now you know the price of what happens when you snoop. Got it memorized?"

"That's not fair!" Roxas cried.

"Pleeeeeeease give it back? Pretty please? We won't snoop again! We just wanted you to get together!"

Your eyes widened at Xion's words.

"You two set it up?"

The two kids nodded, a cute grin on their faces.

"Sally and Jack were here when they said they loved each other! We thought it would be perfect for you two to finally confess!"

"What?!" You and Axel yelled.

"See, you're perfect for each other! You're saying the same things!" Roxas pointed out, laughing at you two's surprised looks.

"Tch, damn, you're lucky I love you two." Axel joked, ruffling their heads. "I can't stay mad at you for long. Come on, let's eat the candy before Saix gets mad at us for being out too long."

Xion and Roxas cheered while Axel shot a glance at you.

"You coming? I'll even feed you a piece if you want~." He winked.

You nodded and sat beside the them, all of you chattering about the night and how good the candy was.

You looked up at Axel and he gave a toothy grin before he kissed you.

"Ew." Roxas gagged while Xion sighed sighed dreamily.

"Hey, you know, this is your fault! You set us up. So I think I get to kiss (Y/n) lots and lots!" Axel teased.

"Adults are so weird." Roxas mumbled.
