In threads and verses where both Eiluned and Elyan survive, Elyan is the first to believe that their son is gone. He doesn’t ‘give up’ per se, but he will be the first to accept that Alun is dead or beyond their grasp and they’ll never be able to find him. Eiluned, however, absolutely refuses to accept this, and never falters in her belief that he’s alive and waiting for them. She knows they’ll be together again, and they just have to keep searching. Nothing anyone says shakes this for her. 

In some ways, yes, she is refusing to even consider it a possibility, but she can’t see that. Her denial is so strong that, like Taran believing he’s nobly born, she can’t acknowledge that Taran might be dead. Many will see her as deluded for it, but more sympathetic people just consider her tragic.

In their short time together, Adaon became very fond of Eiluned, and she of him. This connection is one of the reasons Adaon is one of the few to suspect that she’s Taran’s mother. And in verses where she survives, she mourns his death deeply; all the more so when she finds out he died saving her son. Furthermore, when she finds out about Arianllyn, she swears that she'll look after the girl.

Eiluned gave birth to Taran when she was 22, about 4 years into her marriage. She and Elyan would both be killed just six months later.

It was Eiluned & Elyan’s spiritual influence that made Craddoc feel shame for his lie, but they also understood & knew that it was the only way to make Taran accept he wasn’t noble, and that it didn’t matter in any case, as they would forgive him for their son's sake.

But they were nonetheless grieved listening to how their son was ashamed of his birth, and by extension, of them.

Elyan saw how terrified and troubled the dreams left his wife, and often urged her to seek out Dallben, or Gwydion, to explain and ease them. He felt they’d be safest with Dallben, and Eiluned almost agreed when she started dreaming of the battle. But she then dreamt of Dallben coming to them, and Alun got sick. So they stayed, and she held back, just urging Dallben to come quicker. 

This was absolutely necessary to fulfill the prophecies around Arawn and Taran. Orddu, Orwen, and Orgoch, aware of the connection with her, and saddened as they were by her fate, couldn’t prevent it.

Elyan would have been happy to stay in Caer Dathyl after fleeing Caer Anhyblyg, but Eiluned always feared Pryderi would follow them, so she urged him on. In her mind, the more distance, the better. But even after planting their roots and lives in Commot Heddwch, she never quite loses that fear.

During their stay at Caer Dathyl, Eiluned & Elyan both met and spent time with Taliesin, his wife, and little Adaon.

Eiluned always hoped that Alun would grow to be as brave as Gwydion, gentle as Adaon, wise as Taliesin, just as Math, and devoted as Elyan. And without doubt, he did.

Eiluned was the only one to know the full prophecy of Arawn’s defeat besides Hen Wen and Orddu, Orwen, & Orgoch. This was because she saw it in a dream while she was pregnant with Taran, and after his birth; long before the white pig ever did.

The trials Taran went through with the common people, his dealings in war and wisdom with Gwydion and the Sons of Don, and his education by Dallben and Coll made him truly the greatest and most just king Prydain had seen. This was Eiluned’s ultimate goal and deepest wish; a son who understood and did what he could for both worlds with compassion and fairness.

Once they were in Commot Heddwch, Eiluned learns pottery from Annlaw Clay Shaper, like Taran later does.

At Annuvin during the final battle, Eiluned’s spirit stayed with Taran while Elyan guided Gurgi and Glew to the stolen treasure, and urged Gurgi to save the trade secrets.

Eiluned & Elyan’s stillborn daughter was named Lyn Dafina, while their miscarried son was named Maldwyn Quon. Lyn was named for her maternal grandmother and paternal aunt, and the names mean “Lake” and “High worth”. Maldwyn was named, in middle name, for his paternal grandfather. His name means “Brave Friend” and “Bright”.

When Eilonwy and Gurgi were taken captive by Dorath’s men, Eiluned quickly sent Brynach, Briavael, and the other animals to them, while Elyan stayed with Taran, Fflweddur, the Fair Folk, and the warriors.

Commot Heddwch was a village mostly of farmers, but also stone masons, so all the houses were made of stone, and stone walls were common. There was also stone bridges over the Small Avren. 

Think modern Bibury, England and The Cotswolds, England. Though not all of the houses are joined together, some are.
