⠀⠀YEONJUN⠀⠀was unbeknownst to the sight of utter turmoil waiting behind him. piles of dough-splotched mixing bowls scattered across the kitchen counter, its surface barely visible. heaps of whisks, spatulas, measuring spoons, and whatnot awaited him in the murky waters of the sink. and there he crouched patiently in front of the oven, amidst the heart of the chaos, with his mitten-gloved hands ready to grip a fresh tray of biscuits.

he glanced to and fro at the blinking digits of the timer, anticipating a ring to reach his ears any time now. instead, his ears were pleasantly greeted with the familiar sound of metal keys jingling and a lock turning. yeonjun craned his neck towards its source, where his eyes met your figure shuffling into the entrance.

“hey, honey, i’m home.”

yeonjun immediately frowned at your tone. your voice was monotonous with lethargy, thin and croaky. you let out a dense sigh, eyes clamping shut as you tried to rub away the lack of sleep from your eyes. it was obvious that your day hadn’t been the greatest, and it made yeonjun’s heart sink in a sea of hurt.

“oh, baby…” he sighed pitifully as he pouted, his shoulders dropping. yeonjun slipped his oven gloves off and set them aside, striding toward you.

his arms encircled your tired figure from behind, enveloping you in his endless warmth. the both of you swayed gently like leaves tickled by the wind in the entrance of your home, a pillowy silence forming. no words were exchanged, just a mutual acknowledgement of each other’s presence - enough to ground you from your sky of worries. it was the breath of fresh air you longed for after holding your breath for goodness knows how long.

you began to stir, peeking from the fluff of your pillow. the mattress sank with a familiar weight on your shared bed, an unmistakable serenity washing over you. rolling over, you let out a smile at the endearing sight - hongjoong with his tousled black hair, legs tucked beneath the duvet and lips ever-so-slightly parted. his hands were cupped close to his chest, as if cocooning his delicate heart.

unconsciously sensing your lovestruck gaze, his hands pulled away from their protective stance. you let out an amused chuckle as hongjoong's arms needily stretched out toward you, inviting you to bask in his body heat. oh, how you were so fain to his touch. without a second thought, you huddled up against him, hongjoong's figure immediately caging you in his warmth.

the room was filled with a pleasant, cosy silence you relished every morning, even up to this moment. it felt as if it were only two of you in the world - in each other's arms - dozing back off into the new day.
