Its black plastic eyes mirrored the neon colors of the arcade, while dandelion yellow fashioned its beak and bottom flippers. You'd been attempting to win the specific stuffed animal for twenty minutes, and each attempt had ended in failure. A combination of shame and frustration caused your knuckles to turn white as your fingers grasped the joystick controller firmly. When did claw machines become so challenging? Had you overestimated the challenge of winning a little stuffed animal? You nibbled on the skin of your lower lip as you cast a downward glance at the two coins you still held. They were your only opportunity at the time to win the stuffed animal since you didn't want to acknowledge how much money you'd already spent trying to get it. You sighed in frustration as you inserted one of the sparkling coins into the slot and firmly grasped the joystick controller. As you cautiously tilted the joystick, your other hand hesitantly lingered on the button that often made the claw encircle its target. When you thought the claw was in the perfect place, you hit the button and watched as it descended steadily toward the stuffed penguin. You held your breath, pushing forward against the glass to see as its mechanical fingers wrapped around the penguin's left flipper. “Please...come on...” You murmured as the penguin was raised in the air and precariously transported towards the metal chute that would deliver the stuffed animal into your hands, where you believed it belonged. Your heart started to fill with hope as you thought that perhaps this effort had been your lucky one. That thrill abruptly vanished, though, as the metal claw encountered a problem with its metal track, allowing the penguin to escape its hold and tumble back into the stack of stuffed animals below.

Your lips quivered in defeat, and your forehead dropped forward to helplessly rest on the tempered glass. When you heard quiet giggles coming from behind you, your skin pricked, and you looked over your shoulder to stare at the individual. Your parted your lips to say something to the stranger, but you came to a standstill as you recognized a familiar face. Huening Kai, a boy who went to the same school as you but was in a different class. “Do you want some help?” His rich brown eyes shifted to look into the glass of the claw machine behind your frame as he inquired, smiling innocently at you and catching sight of the stuffed animal you had been trying so hard to win. A pout formed on your lips as you cast a peek down at the lone coin that was still in your palm. “There is only one coin left. What happens if I don't succeed this time?” You replied, hating the way the disappointment in your voice made it sound smaller. Stepping closer with a smile, Kai put a warm hand on your shoulder before reaching for something in his pants pocket with the other. When he opened his hand, you could see the coins that were scattered inside it in a succession of jingles. “I’ve always got more.”

He offered his small pile of coins, and you hesitated before accepting it. However, you knew in your heart that you would return the favor the next time you saw him at school. He beckoned you closer as you saw him deftly slide one into the metal slot on the lower left panel of the coin machine. He positioned you in front of him, and your brow furrowed in perplexity as your hand naturally sought for the joystick controller. Your confusion was quickly overcome, though, by shock when Kai covered your hands with his own. He leaned over your shoulder to have a better look inside the machine's glass cabinet. His skin was warm and somewhat calloused, easily encompassing your own. “It’s all about timing and strategy.” He spoke near to your ear, and the proximity of his breath caused goosebumps to rise all over your frame. You stole a glance in his direction, a bubble forming in your throat as you realized how near his face was to yours. He had always been attractive to you in passing, but up close he was absolutely captivating. His dark eyes were framed by long, dark lashes, and the higher nose in the center of his youthful face was complemented by a strong jawline. You hadn't even realized how intensely you had been watching until he turned to face you. The tip of his nose brushed yours, and a lopsided grin adorned his pink lips. “Eyes on the prize, okay?” He spoke, interrupting your daze. A flood of butterflies erupted in the pit of your stomach, and you nodded wordlessly before directing your attention back to the machine.

His hands guided yours in as calm and gentle a manner as he could in the 15-second time limit set by the game. It felt so natural and effortless with him. Your mouth couldn’t help but drop open in shock when the plush penguin this time landed directly into the chute. “No way.” You spoke quickly before flashing the brightest smile. After bending down to acquire your new prize, the stuffed animal was quickly shrouded in the comfort of your clothed chest. You burst into a series of giggles, and you caressed the penguin’s silky head with your smooth cheek. “Thank you so much! I promise to repay you.” You spoke, looking at him joyously. You were once again greeted by his previous handsome, lopsided grin. “Who cares about a little coin? I can think of something way better?” He hummed and shuffled his hands bashfully in his jeans' pocket as he swayed on his heels and smiled boyishly.

huening kai kamal (02) – (aka my bias! well i’m really ot5 but… i am just a…….. lil bias to kai)

defining features – cute nose bump, heart shaped lips, unique eyes, moles !!!

we’ve come to the diamond maknae, huening kai! he’s often called a variety of things, huening kai, hyuka, kai, ningdungie, ning ning, kamal (but rarely! fun fact, did you know ‘kamal’ means perfection/completeness/wholeness in arabic? his parent’s knew what why were doing lmao).

he has the cutest bump on his nose which is a charming point, but look out for his height (he’s the second tallest!) and legs! they’re kinda unique, cause he has a thigh gap, even when his legs are together! his hair is usually brown, except for his recent blond and mint, which are now gone, so don’t orient yourself on it too much! what you can definitely track him down with his cute, but loud dolphin laugh! plus his voice is naturally a bit “cute”, since it’s slightly nasally, and he has a lot of natural but also intentional aegyo

he moved a. lot. !! he is mixed, half white, half korean! he was born in hawaii, moved to china and then moved to korea, and can now speak a total of 4 languages, (5 including peng), chinese, english, korean and japanese! he also mentioned knowing a bit of portuguese and that he was lenairng it with his dad recently!

speaking of family! david huening, his father, is also a musician, and released an album in china! (a few of people have asked why both his parents aren't together in recent family pictures, this is because his parents have unfortunately divorced and his father has a new partner). his two sisters, lea and bahiyyih are/were also idols! lea is no longer active as an idol, but does post on youtube and models frequently. bahiyyih recently won second place in the idol reality show girls planet 999, and had debuted in kep1er! (try and find a triplet that looks more similar istg-)

last but not least, kai is quite affectionate, known for his tummy pats, a habit he picked up as a child after losing his pillow, and patting his father’s stomach instead! (watch his and soobs old vlive to hear the full explanation). he’s a connoisseur, watch yeonjun and his asmr video for a full explanation of what soob’s stomach feels like lmao. he also has an obsession is plushies, namely molang, to the point where is bed is overflowing!
