     a life that could have been. he’d spent so long wanting, yearning for what others had, what others lived while he watched from the sidelines. yearning for a mark of his own, a rune that would sit proudly upon his skin. he was a shadowhunter, it was his birthright, was he not allowed that much? @theseelie​. lucie was the only saving grace for a life lived in shadow. a half life. but with her it felt like more. like this half life that had been thrust upon him was finally beginning to become whole. but what life could he offer her? she, who was so full of stories and lightness that she had everything to give to the world. she didn’t deserve a life lived in darkness, giving her heart to the ghost of someone who would never be there by her side. he’d felt rage for the first time in years when he thought of the man who would hold her hand, be there for her parabatai ceremony, the man who would impart a wedding rune upon her skin. for that would never be him. the world was cruel like that.
