The origin's version of the char shower scene being set in a swanky hotel and garma's watching him on a video call the whole time
#accidentally overworked my wrist and arms drawing too much recently which is not conducive for blogging so i was reading again for a break#char being a bit more naked than in the show was a little shocking but i was mostly charmed#because he's vaguely built like me from the legs down (mysterious statement)#O-2#gif#〇

Of course, the Unicorn Gundam came from the tapestries that Vist owned, but it's interesting to learn that the Banshee may have also come from one of them as well (and the concept of Laplace's Box).
I had a feeling this uneasy partnership was going to lead nowhere but squabbling between all sides...
It's been a while since there been something that's referencing a real life historical concept almost word-for-word (the Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere is the real life phenomenon for reference). I'll have to read up more on that part of history to see how it applies, though.
I'm fascinated by the use of some Char's Counterattack footage because while this isn't new for the series (see: the A Cosmic Glow flashbacks in Zeta or that one part of the 2nd episode of ZZ), it's been a lot longer between Unicorn and this movie.
He's really gone off the deep end now. Even his hair has less life in it...
This explains a lot.
It's always nice to see Banagher and Marida's relationship. It's probably good for her to have someone around her age to hang out with.
A novel form of Newtype effects, perhaps?
I feel like at the end of the day Full Frontal is just some guy that was forced into being Char-like, but moments like this make me wonder if there's some clone stuff going on or it's really him.
Considering the only moment that's been shown of Banagher's past is him undergoing some some dubious experiments, I feel like he's probably more modified Cyber-Newtype than metaphorical, but who knows.
I've compared Angelo to Mashymre in the past (among other very devoted characters), but him carrying around a rose makes him even more like that guy now.
You can't have Gundam without some "kids are the future messaging" in it at some point...
Next up...probably Banagher's and Riddhe's final battle (at least for the latter).

Opening with the beginning of the Universal Century is a strong choice (and I'll be noting down this name for later because it's surely going to be important).
I genuinely got a little excited seeing some random soldier talking about Minovsky particles in this (Universal Century) day and age.
I suppose it has been just long enough for the One Year War and the ideologies that spawned from that to be taught in schools. It's interesting to see how the Newtype vision is brought up negatively because it's in conjunction with Gihren Zabi's ideas.
I'm already a little concerned for Banagher's mental state from this line alone, poor guy.
Another day, another secret mobile suit project that our main character will definitely not find out about (saying this lovingly).
I understand completely why she wouldn't give out her actual name, but I'd recognize that ginger Garma-esque haircut anywhere...
Assuming this is actually Mineva, I wonder if this show is going talk about how Neo Zeon was under Char from her perspective considering he didn't seem too interested in having her be a mouthpiece like Haman did. Also, if the body double thing from ZZ gets referenced, I will be pleasantly surprised.
This time I'll actually believe that Banagher's Haro is a replica unlike the one that Kamille had just because it hasn't said anyone's name but his for now.
I guess in real life there are pieces of art older than this that are well-preserved, but I'm a little shocked something this old has held up so well.
I feel like Banagher's feelings towards "Audrey" are coming off really strong for someone he just met, but those Newtype (?)-to-Newtype bonds are always like that. Also, the compressed format of an OVA might be contributing to that.
A minor detail that's shown up a few times that's interesting to me is that all the mobile suits and adjacent vehicles have airbags. They don't seem to be as intense as real life ones...
I wonder if this show is going to have a bit of meta discussion on how the series has changed over the years because Vist's comment on how Newtype is synonymous with "ace pilot" is pointing me in that direction. Having a character who's straight up called the "second coming of Char" is another point in that idea's favor. (It will be oh so difficult for me to be mature and not laugh every time the name Full Frontal is said, though 💀)
(wearing shirt that says I <3 KINDA INCOMPREHENSIBLE PHILOSOPHICAL DISCUSSIONS)
The imagery of Banagher alone in the cockpit with blood on his face is striking of course, but also the metaphorical undertones of Vist wiping the blood from his hands onto the younger generation (a sins of the father comparison could be made here too) is really good.
This beast is awesome looking (and the mix of 3D and 2D for it is cool, too).
#not really a comment i can support with pictures but the music is really good too#decided to do the more condensed liveblogging style with this since they're all like an hour long#UC-1#〇

It's not the most obnoxious instance of this kind of thing in Gundam ever, but Riddhe and Banagher talking about promises between men and protecting Mineva as if she's not in the metaphorical room with them was bizarre.
It took me until this episode to realize that La+ being pronounced like "la plus" (ラ・プラス?) is supposed to sound like "Laplace" (ラプラス) because I wasn't really paying attention to any characters saying it before.
I'm not sure how I feel about Full Frontal being the one to deliver all this information instead of it coming more organically, but I actually gasped at him saying this. (Side note: Unicorn surely isn't the first thing to do "what if the acronyms were scary", but my first thought here was the whole "LV = Level of Violence" reveal in Undertale...)
It's not surprising that Cyber-Newtypes are still around considering it's only been a few years since they were last mentioned in the timeline, though I wonder who's handling them these days. Also, is Banagher supposed to be a Cyber-Newtype...? Because Full Frontal bringing up how only one could handle the NT-D system is pointing me heavily in that direction.
Once again, this show definitely feels like it's supposed to be half meta commentary on the series with this being a more obvious example of that.
I had the faintest feeling that Marida was supposed to be related to the Ples because of her appearance, but I wasn't expecting a reveal so soon. Once again, though, I feel like Full Frontal just sitting here and telling us the audience everything is a bit annoying.
Banagher is really taking the Amuro mantle here (with a little bit of Kamille mixed in too).
I'm a little disappointed that Marida's tragic backstory seems to be she worked at a brothel at a young age because I feel like that gets used over and over again for shock value in media. The focus on the damage to her reproductive system (their words not mine) is gratuitous as well, considering a few other of her organs have concerning damage too.
I was puzzling over why immunosuppressants would have to be used with Cyber-Newtypes, but then I remembered some of them (like Rosamia) have genetically enhanced organs. If I assume those are being transplanted in, that must be where the issue is.
It's always fun to see what people entertain themselves with in the Universal Century, like these hologram air hockey/pool type games.
And now there's seals on the Laplace's Box and/or La+ program, the plot thickens...
This lady is definitely going to be up to some shady underhanded activity, but I like the uniqueness of her design.
Discussing the Federation as a merciless overpowering god is an interesting new take on their actions. Also, the Federation apparently being kept in power so long from trying to "prevent terrorism" sounds a lot like what's happened in the real world many times.
Hopefully, the Unicorn Gundam has adequate re-entry protection because I'm not sure how he's gonna get out of this situation otherwise...
#this one took a little longer than usual#because i'm watching with a pal and it's a bit tricky to line our viewing schedules up lol#UC-3#〇
