Yokai Watch Busters 2 Website Update

The website for Yokai Watch Busters 2 updated with more information again, so I will go over and translate most of it, as usual.

Naturally, this contains spoilers for the game, so proceed with caution.

Mastertag for pre-release Busters 2 information.

Aside from the website updating, Corocoro has also been released, however it seems to mostly contain either the same information as this update, or go over older information again (like Super Chance Time, for example).

Therefore I will simply go over and translate the website’s updates, and only feature something from Corocoro if it’s something that is notably different or not on the website.

Bolded is the original Japanese; for reference and in case someone who is better at Japanese than I reads this, and feels like correcting something.

Bolded and italicized is my translation.

(Number) Indicates I got a specific comment to make on that part in the translation notes.

Please keep in mind that I’m a beginner when it comes to Japanese, so it’s possible that I make mistakes, too.

First of all, the "About" page got some updates.

「カラクリ島」は形の変わる不思議な島だった！

今作の舞台「カラクリ島」は、ダンジョンで手に入る「不思議なねじまき」でどんどん形を変えていく！！

It turns out "Karakuri Island" is a mysterious island that can change its shape!

This work's setting, "Karakuri Island", will steadily change its shape, with the use of "Mysterious Wind-up Keys", that can be obtained in dungeons!!

第三形態 Third Form

最終形態ではどうなってしまうのか！？ What will happen once it reaches its Final Form!?

Some new yokai have been revealed, though two were in the anime already. These are specifically yokai who will appear in either version of the game.

Corocoro actually listed the tribes for some of them as well, so I will mention those in my notes.

アレ・バッチノー大秘宝妖怪ヨーデルセン復活のために暗躍する妖怪。汚れが気になると掃除せずにはいられない。 Are Bacchino A yōkai who is acting behind the scenes, to revive the Great Hidden Treasure Yōkai Yōderusen. He feels uncomfortable about dirt, and can't stop cleaning.

Notes:

His name literally translates to "That's dirty!", just written as if it was a western name.

He appears to be of the Shady Tribe.

ガシャどくろT 冒険家が遺跡の中で転がってくる岩に襲われるのはこの妖怪のせい。今作ではガシャマシン担当でもある。 Gashadokuro T When adventurers are suddenly attacked by rolling rocks in ruins, it's the fault of this yōkai. In this work, he is also in charge of the Gasha Machine.

Notes:

The "T" in his name is read as "Treasure".

Gashadokuro is known as Gutsy Bones in English, and the Gasha Machines are known as Crank-a-Kai.

シンディ・J インディ・Jの妹。大秘宝妖怪ヨーデルセンの力で人間にされてしまたが、意外と気に入っている。 Cindy Jaws Indy Jaws' younger sister. She was turned into a human by the power of the Great Hidden Treasure Yōkai Yōderusen, but she suprisingly enjoys it.

Note:

She appears to be of the Slippery Tribe.

キャプテンドード七つの海をまたにかけ、数々の宝を手に入れてきた大海賊妖怪。自慢のヒゲの手入れは欠かさない。 Captain Dōdo A great pirate yōkai, who has travelled across the seven seas, and obtained many treasures. He's always grooming his prized mustache.

Notes:

I am unsure of where his name comes from. I'd assume it's taken from the Dodo, but there could be more to it.

He appears to be of the Mysterious Tribe.

徳川マイゾウ「トクガワノマイゾウキン」と呼ばれる宝を求めて世界中を駆け回る妖怪。それが何なのかは分かっていない。 Tokugawa Maizō A yōkai who is running around the world, looking for a treasure called "Tokugawa no Maizōkin". He doesn't know what it is.

Notes:

"Tokugawa no Maizōkin", literally "Buried Gold of Tokugawa", is a hidden treasure supposedly left behind by the Tokugawa clan.

Togukawa Maizō's name seems to be derived from this treasure, and the symbol on his forehead plate resembles the mon of the Togukawa clan.

Togukawa would be his family name, while Maizō would be his given name.

He appears to be of the Shady Tribe.

バスコダ・ガマ世界中の珍しいものを探して旅する大商人妖怪。道具箱の中のアイテムは、商売だけじゃなく、戦闘でも使う。 Vascoda Gama A travelling great merchant yōkai, who looks for rare things all around the world. The items inside his toolbox are not just for business, he also uses them for fighting.

Notes:

Name is derived from Vasco da Gama, and ガマ/gama, which can translate to "toad".

He appears to be of the Slippery Tribe.

This bit reveals the names of the opening theme songs for both verions of the games:

Sword’s opening theme is called “剣の舞人” or “Tsurugi no Maito”, which can be translated as “Sword Dancer” .

Magnum’s opening theme is called “タイミマシーンをちょうだい” or “Taimimashīn o chōdai”, which can be translated as “Give me a Time Machine ” .

Next is the page describing the version differences.

Two new version-exclusive legendary yokai have been revealed:

This one is exclusive to Sword:

モリガミレックス島の守り神である恐竜の妖怪。怒ると体が熱くなって暴れる。氷河期を生き残ったのは前の日にともだちと大げんかして体がホカホカしていたから。 Morigami Rex A dinosaur yōkai who acts as the guardian deity of the island. When he gets angry, his body heats up, and he rampages. He survived the Ice Age because he had a big fight with his friends the day before, so his body was all warm and cozy.

Notes:

Name is derived from 守り神/mamorigami, which translates to "guardian deity", and “t-rex”.

I can't say for sure wether he fought with just one friend or multiple ones, it could be either.

This one is exclusive to Magnum:

カネクイヒメ人の金運を食べて生きる妖怪。５つの口で人々の金運を一瞬で吸い取り、貧乏にしてしまう。実は頭の上にも口があるがダイエットのために封印中。 Kanekui Hime A yōkai who lives off of people's fortunes. With her five mouths, she sucks up people's fortunes in an instant, turning them poor. She actually has a mouth on top of her head too, but its sealed away for a diet.

Notes:

Name literally translates to "money-eating princess".

What I translated as “fortune” is 金運/kin'un in Japanese, which specifically refers to one's luck with money, not one's literal money, from what I can tell.

Like earlier, Coroco actually listed their tribes as well. Morigami Rex is Tough, and Kanekui Hime is Shady.

Exclusive bosses are also shown, two of which are new ones:

While these two new bosses have no description here, they actually did have those in Corocoro, so I will go over them. (images source)

輪NEW道爆走するタイヤの妖怪！！「夜露死苦」と絶叫しながら走り続けれう！ WaNEWdō A runaway tire yōkai!! He keeps on running while screaming "Yo Ro Shi Ku"!

Notes:

Name is derived from Wanyūdō and the English word "new".

The phrase he is said to be screaming is 夜露死苦/Yo Ro Shi Ku, which is derived from the Japanese greeting "yoroshiku", but written out with the kanji for "night", "dew", "death", and "suffering" instead. This is a phrase associated with biker gangs and graffiti.

ダークマスター凶悪な姿のネコ妖怪。とあるダークヒーロー妖怪に似ているとのウワサだが……。 Dark Master A cat yōkai with a fiendish appearance. There's a rumor that he resembles a certain dark hero yōkai...

Wakame-kun is known as Wiglin in English.

Kuwano Bushi and Musha Kabuto are known as Beetler and Rhinoggin in English.

Note:

Yōki basically is "yōkai ki" or "yōkai energy", and it’s a term used in the Japanese versions of the games. As of Yokai Watch 3 I believe, yōki also exists as obtainable items that can be used for various effects.

さらに！祭壇にはカラクリ島に深くかかわる特別な仕掛けが…！？ Furthermore! There is a mechanism on the altar that is deeply connected with Karakuri Island...!?

妖怪を倒したときに現れるギアソウルを妖怪ポッドに取り込むと、トレジャーギアを使った攻撃ができるようになるぞ！

The Treasure Gear and their energy, "Gear Souls"!

If you take the Gear Souls, which appear when you defeat yōkai, into the Yōkai Pod, you will be able to attack with Treasure Gear!

ギアソウルとは…？

敵の妖怪が落とす、火、水、雷、土、氷、風の６属性のかたまり。トレジャーギアのエネルギーとなり、下画面の「きりかえ」��イコンを押すと、属性が切り替わる！うまく活用して敵の弱点を攻めよう！

What are Gear Souls...?

Clumps of six attributes, fire, water, lightning, ice, and wind, dropped by enemy yōkai. They become the energy of the Treasure Gear, and if you select the "Switch" icon on the bottom screen, the attribute switches! Take advantage of the enemies weaknesses when attacking!

十字ボタンでトレジャーギアを切り替えて、有利にバトル！ Switch Treasure Gear with the D-pad, and battle advantageously!

マグナムビームの連射が可能！ためると相手を後ろに押し返す！ Magnum You can fire a beam! Keep it up and push back enemies!

水属性の攻撃！アツい妖怪には大ダメージ！？ A water-attribute attack! It does great damage to hot yōkai!?

チェーンソード回転斬りで薙ぎ払う！ためろと回転数が増えてたくさん攻撃できるぞ！ Chain Sword Mow them down with a rotating slash! The number of rotations increases, so you can attack a lot!

風属性の攻撃！じめじめした妖怪に有効！？ A wind-attribute attack! Is it effective against damp yōkai!?

スナイパー遠くの相手を確実に攻撃！ためるとクリティカルヒットで大ダメージのチャンス！ Sniper Attack from afar! Multiple critical hits are your chance to do great damage!

おとも妖怪のように操作キャラに追従して、周囲のコインやギアソウルなどを回収したり、プレイヤーには見えない隠しヌーキューブを発見したるする機能を持った、頼れる相棒型トレジャーギアだ！

What is the "Hyūdroid"...?

A reliable partner Treasure Gear, which possesses the functions of following the leading character like a friend yōkai, collecting surrounding coins and Gear Souls, and discovering hidden Nu Cubes, invisible to the player!

改造するとこんな成長が！ If you modify it, it can improve in the following ways!

１回収範囲の拡大ギアソウルやコインなど回収の範囲が広がる！ 1. Expanding its Collection Range Widen the scope of collecting Gear Souls, coins, and the like!

２探索性能の向上隠しヌーキューブを発見するスピードがアップ！ 2. Improving its Search Performance The speed of discovering hidden Nu Cubes goes up!

３性格の変更玩具「DX妖怪ヒュードロイド」との連動か、ゲーム内で入手できるアイテムで性格を変更できる！アイテムは入手困難なレアもの！性格は一日だつと「普通」に戻ってしまうぞ！ 3. Changing its Character When linking with the toy "DX Yōkai Hyūdroid", you can obtain items in-game that can change its character! The items are rare and difficult to obtain! Master Denjin: ヒュードロイドは　偶然に発掘された古代のアイテムなんだ。 The Hyūdroid is an ancient item, that got discovered by chance.

Notes:

Denjin is known as Signiton in English.

ダンジョンに落ちている半透明の箱、ヌーキューブ！攻撃してHPを０にすると中身を入手できるぞ！

Treasure Chests that are opened by destroying them!? "Nu Cubes"!

The Nu Cubes are translucent boxes strewn throughout dungeons! If you get their HP to 0 by attacking them, you can obtain their contents!

攻撃＆破壊！アイテムを入手! Attack and Destroy! Obtain Items!

ヌーキューブにも属性があり、大小とサイズの違いもある！大きいものほど良いものが入っているが、その中身は様々！見つけたら攻撃してみよう！ Nu Cubes have attributes too, and they also come in different sizes! The bigger they are, the better the things they contain, but their contents vary!

Challenge the Hidden Treasure Dungeon and become friends with Hidden Treasure Yōkai! You can increase the probability of befriending them by using a special yōki!

超強力な秘宝妖怪たち… 絶対仲間にしたい！ Super powerful Hidden Treasure Yōkai... you definitely want to befriend them!

大秘宝妖怪ヨーデルセン Great Hidden Treasure Yōkai Yōderusen

秘宝妖怪にまつわる神聖な雰囲気のスペシャルなダンジョン！ A Special Dungeon, with the sacred atmosphere that surrounds Hidden Treasure Yōkai!

秘宝妖怪エンブレムのQRコードやゲーム内で入手できる専用のストーンを使ってチャレンジできる検定ダンジョン！秘宝妖怪を８体そろえると、大秘宝妖怪「ヨーデルセン」の秘宝ダンジョンが開放される！ A dungeon to test your strength, which you can challenge by using either the QR codes of Hidden Treasure Yōkai Emblems, or special stones you can find in-game! When the 8 Hidden Treasure Yōkai are gathered, the Hidden Treasure Dungeon of the Great Hidden Treasure Yōkai Yōderusen will be unleashed!

Now, this bit has finally showed us Yōderusen up close, alongside the 8 Hidden Treasure Yokai that act as his seal, and in Corocoro there was a similar segment, However, that one actually has a bit more information I find interesting, so I will go over it. (images source)

First of all, this page actually shows that Yōderusen is of the Mysterious Tribe.

The yokai that act as his seal also each got a description, however, from what I can make out from them, they’re basically the same stuff we already know of them from previous news.

The part I want to focus on is at the bottom:

ヨーデルセンの封印とは別の秘宝妖怪も存在！！その実力は上の８体に勝るとも劣らない！！仲間にしようぜ！！ There exist more Hidden Treasure Yōkai besides the ones that act as Yōderusen's seal!! Their power exceeds that of the previous eight!! Let's become friends with them!!

So, this bit clarifies that not all Hidden Treasure Yokai are tied to Yōderusen, and shows off three of the unrelated ones.

日ノ鳥日ノ神が不死鳥へと転生。たとえ倒れても炎の中から復活する！！ Hi no Tori Hi no Shin has been reincarnated as a phoenix. Even when he falls, he is resurrected within the flames!!

アンコールデッド背中の飾りからアンコールを受けて、破壊をくり返すゾンビ妖怪。 Encore Dead A zombie yōkai who keeps on destroying, as he receives encores from the decorations on his back.

These two were revealed before, in fact, Hi no Tori was already in Yokai Watch 3, but I still felt like translating their descriptions here.

The third yokai here is new though, and she was added to the website as well:

アーマーテラス世界を優しく照らす女神。弟のスサノオがいたずらをするので部屋に隠れたが部屋から引きずり出されたのでブチぎれて武装した。

Āmāterasu (or Armorterasu) A goddess who gently shines upon the world. She hid in her room because her younger brother Susanoo was being mischievous, but because she got dragged out of there, she snapped and armed herself.

Notes:

She is based on the Shinto deity Amaterasu.

Her name is derived from both Amaterasu and アーマー/āmā, a Japanese spelling of the Enlish word "armor".

She appears to be of the Charming Tribe.

Next we have a page talking about Big Bosses that will appear in the game.

Note that while the next two bosses are seperated visually on the page, I don’t see anything that indicates they’re version-exclusive.

新ボス「ミイラーボール」に挑め！

Challenge the New Boss "Mīrror Ball"! (1)

華やかな世界を夢見る恥ずかしがり屋さんの想いが集まって誕生した妖怪！独学の独特なダンスで仲間たちと夜な夜なレッツダンシング！ A yōkai born from the gathered feelings of shy people that dream of a gorgeous world! Let's dance our self-taught, unique dance with our friends, every night!

踊りながら攻撃してくるパーティーピーポー！？ A party dude who attacks while dancing!?

仲間の「まんまミーラ」を呼び寄せる！ He calls his "Manma Mīra" friends! (2)

必殺技「朝までフィーバー！」！巻き込まれたら一溜まりもないぞ！！ His Special Movie is "Fever 'till Morning!"! Once you're caught, you're helpless!!

Notes:

Name is derived from ミイラ/mīra, which means "mummy", and "mirror ball".

"Manma Mīra" are mummy yokai that where introduced in an update of Yokai Watch 3 and appeared in its Busters T Mode.

新ボス「血魔ツリー」に挑め！ Challenge the New Boss "Chi Ma Tree"! (1)

樹海の木が人々への憎しみを吸収して妖怪に！？命を粗末にする人には喰わせろ！と襲い掛かってくる！ A tree of the Sea of Trees absorbed the hatred of people and turned into a yōkai!? (2) It'll charge at you and attack, while going: "Let's eat people that dont value life!"

I feel like pointing out that in Corocoro, the line instead said that it had “absorbed the hatred of people that dont value life and turned into a yōkai“, which is slightly different from the text here.

自前の斧を活かした強烈攻撃！ A strong attack using its own axe!

チャンズになると幹が割れる！？ You get a chance when its trunk cracks!?

植物の体を活かしたツリーな攻撃！ A tree-like attack, making use of its plant body!

必殺技「血祭大乱投」！巨大な斧をブン投げてくる！！ Its Special Movie is "Great Revolt Bloodbath Throw"! It'll throw its huge axe!!

Notes:

Name is derived from 血/chi ("blood"), 魔/ma ("demon"), ツリー/Tsurī (Japanese spelling of the English word "tree"), and 血祭り/chimatsuri, which literally translates to "blood festival", and can refer to ritualistic blood sacrifices, but is also used to refer to anything where lots of blood flows, so, a "blood bath".

The Sea of Trees is one of the names Aokigahara is known as.

バイKING 世界中のバイ菌の頂点に立つバイ菌の王様。かつては部下を率いて海で船を襲っていたこともあったがあまりの臭さで船に乗りこむ前に相手に気づかれ全速力で逃げられることが続いたため傷ついて遺跡に引きこもった。 BaiKING (or ViKING) The king of bacteria, who stands at the top of bacteria all around the world. He used to lead subordinates and attack ships at sea, but because his smell is too strong, and their opponents would repeatedly notice them before they could board their ship, and escape at full speed, he was hurt, and retreated into ruins.

Note:

Name is taken from 黴菌/baikin ("bacteria"), "king", and "viking".

オリファルコンオリハルコンという非常に硬い金属の体を持つ鳥妖怪。刃の翼を飛ばし、遺跡の侵入者を撃退する。 Orifalcon (or Orifalcum) A bird yōkai with a body made of a very hard metal called Orichalcum. It fights off intruders in the ruins, flying with its blade-like wings.

Note:

Name is taken from "Orichalcum" and "falcon", which in Japanese are spelled almost identically.

カニ坊主カラクリ島周辺の海の主。背中には顔のような模様がある。正面の巨大なハサミと背中の顔が唱える妖術で海を荒らす者を襲う。 Kanibōzu The master of the sea surrounding Karakuri island. He has a pattern that looks like a face on his back. With his huge scissors at the front, and the face reciting magic spells on his back, he attacks those who vandalize the sea.

Named for and based on a crab yōkai called Kanibōzu.

This next page introduces us to the newly revealed “Successive Generations of Great King Enma”, or “the Great Kings Enma of Past Generations”:

The existence of the Past Generations of the Great King Enma is revealed!

In this work, the Great Kings Enma, who have been supporting the Yōmakai for generations, will also make an appearance!

時空を超えて歴代エンマが集結！！妖魔界の賢者たち選ばれてきた、妖怪の頂点に立つ存在それがエンマ大王！！代々その座を務めてきた王たちは、当然みんな最高の力を持つている。各エンマが何代目かは、周囲のヒトダマの数で分かるぞ。 Crossing time and space, the Past Generations Enma gather!! Chosen by the sages of the Yōmakai, standing at the top of all yōkai, is the Great King Enma!! As the kings who have served as such for generations, naturally they all possess the strongest powers. You can tell which generation they are by counting the hitodama that surround them.

Now, before we move onto the information on each individual newly revealed past Great King Enma, let me explain something about how their individual titles work.

What I translate as "Great King Enma" is エンマ大王/Enma Daiō in Japanese, sometimes written in all kanji as 閻魔大王, and it's a pretty literal translation.

For each of these individual Enma, they get their own little "title", which is basically "Insert Thing King Enma", where they simply replace the 大/dai kanji, meaning "great", with another kanji that describes them.

５代目エンマ大王閻魔猫王マタタビ The 5th Great King Enma The Cat King Enma, Matatabi

伝説のフドウ雷鳴剣を封印した歴代閻魔の１人で５代目。５代目に選ばれてから背中にくっついたヒトダマが気になり、ついついじゃれてしまう。 One of the Enma of successive generations who sealed away the legendary Fudō Thunder Sword, him being the 5th. Ever since he was chosen as the 5th, he's been anxious about the hitodama stuck to his back, and playfully attacking them.

Notes:

His given name, Matatabi, is the name of a plant that has an effect on cats similar to catnip, and thus is a popular cat treat. It could also be related to the Nekomata, a cat yokai.

His personal title, which I translated as Cat King Enma, is 閻魔猫王/Enma Nekoō in Japanese, using the kanji 猫/neko, which means “cat”.

The Fudō Thunder Sword, or Fudō Raimeiken in Japanese, is a sword that will play a role in the 4th Yokai Watch Movie.

仲間のステータスもあげる大技！ A great technique that boosts the stats of his friends, too!

10代目エンマ大王閻魔羅王テッカク The 10th Great King Enma The Ra King Enma, Tekkaku

伝説のフドウ雷鳴剣を封印した歴代閻魔の１人で１０代目。彼の剣技は閻魔史上最高で専用武器エンマブレード・轟は一振りで全てを破壊する。 One of the Enma of successive generations who sealed away the legendary Fudō Thunder Sword, him being the 10th. His swordsmanship is the best out of all Enma, and his special weapon, the Enma Blade Roar, destroys everything in a single sweep.

Notes:

I am unsure where his given name, Tekkaku, is derived from. 適格/tekkaku does mean “competent” in Japanese, but yeah.

His personal title is hard to translate. It is 閻魔羅王/Enma Raō in Japanese, and literally translated it would be “Gauze King Enma”, as it uses the kanji 羅/ra, which tranlates to “gauze” or other lighweight fabrics. However, this kanji is not to be taken literally, as it is likely a reference to another name the deity Enma (or Yama) is known as, 閻魔羅闍/Enma Raja, which is a phonetic transliteration of his Sanskrit name “Yamarāja”. Either that one, or other spellings of his name that utilize this kanji. Because this can’t really be translated literally into english, there is probably no ideal way to translate his name.

(I even considered going for a Chinese pronounciation of “ra”, and calling him Luó King Enma, since that seems to be at least slightly more well-known in English.)

２代目エンマ大王閻魔冥王マカ The 2nd Great King Enma The Underworld King Enma, Maka

伝説のフドウ雷鳴剣を封印した歴代閻魔の１人で２代目。子供の嘘をみやぶる能力を持ち嘘つきの子供の舌をエンマペンチで引っこ抜く。 One of the Enma of successive generations who sealed away the legendary Fudō Thunder Sword, him being the 2nd. Having the ability to see through a child's lies, he pulls out the lying children's tongues with the Enma Pliers.

Notes:

I am unsure where his given name, Maka, is taken from. The closest to a possibility I could find is the term 摩訶/maka, but I don’t really know anything about it, so I can’t say for sure.

His personal title, which I translated as Underworld King Enma, is 閻魔冥王/Enma Meiō in Japanese, using the kanji 冥/mei, which can translate to “underworld” but also “dark” or “hidden”.

His habit of pulling out tongue’s is in reference to the fact that according to a Japanese superstition that is told to children: "If you lie, Lord Enma will pull out your tongue".

９代目エンマ大王閻魔竜王ミズチ The 9th Great King Enma The Dragon King Enma, Mizuchi

伝説のフドウ雷鳴剣を封印した歴代閻魔の１人で９代目。癒やしの力で霊を救おうとするが外見のせいでみんな逃げる。自分分の心は癒せない。 One of the Enma of successive generations who sealed away the legendary Fudō Thunder Sword, him being the 9th. He tries to help spirits with his healing powers, but they all flee from him due to his appearance. He cannot heal his own heart.

Notes:

His given name, Mizuchi, is the name of a Japanese type of dragon.

His personal title, which I translated as Dragon King Enma, is 閻魔竜王/Enma Ryūō in Japanese, using the kanji 竜/ryū , which means “dragon”.

Corocoro notes that besides these new Enma, the familiar ones will also appear in the game, and the website also shows them off:

Note that God of Time and Space Enma is exclusive to Sword, while God of the Sun Enma is exclusive to Magnum.

God of Darkness Enma can only be obtained by utilizing a special yōki called “Adventure Yōki”.

From what I understand, on the day of Busters 2′s release, there will be a special level in Puni Puni, and if you beat it you can obtain either Punijiro or Punifuyu in Busters 2 and Puni Puni.

Punijiro can only be obtained in Sword, Punifuyu can only be obtained in Magnum.

This page here simply explains the method of obtaining Fudō Myōō which I went over in previous translations:

Basically children who go to see the upcoming 4th Movie may receive a little charm that has a QR Code on it that is needed to obtain him in-game.

And that is it for any specifically new information added to the website or featured in Corocoro that I could find.
