7 years ago, I was in the lowest point of my life. It was such a turning point that I did not know if I would be able to get up again. I was broken, alone, and scared - scared that life will be more of a burden than a blessing. I had to force myself to wake up every morning and I was trapped in that hole for months.

Music was my companion. I’m no expert but I needed to have my iPod with me at all times so I can drown out the silence within myself.

One day, I turned on the TV out of sheer boredom and landed upon a music video. The MV wasn’t anything special at first glance but the song was very catchy. ‘Wait, is that Korean I hear?’ I remember saying so to myself. I was so into the song that I had to search for it, even if I swore that I wouldn’t get into KPOP (during that time WG and SJ were really big in PH). I was already into Japanese and Taiwanese music that I thought I couldn’t handle familiarizing another language.

And thus, on that one fateful day, my journey to become a SONE began.

SNSD introduced me into a whole new world (yes, pun intended). By learning more about them, I forgot about my worries and I started feeling more motivated. Here were 9 beautiful and amazing girls who went through years of training, many difficulties and trials but still with a smile on their face. Compared to my problems, how much have they suffered? How can I think that life could be so cruel when my problem is probably just a tip from their experiences?

‘Life couldn’t be that bad, I’m just glad I got to hear their music.’

There was one video that made my conversion to become a Kpop fan and SONE in particular prominent. It was a highlight reel of their days from Girls Go to School to their recent Daesang wins in ’09.

Then came their B-tracks. I got hooked through their Title Songs, but I stayed for their Ballads.

The message, the melody, their voices; when combined together makes one big masterpiece.

I gained strength from their songs. I may have not known the exact translation but I felt it in my heart.

Then came ‘Soshi Bond’. At first, I was pretty doubtful that 9 girls could be that close. But they proved interview after interview; variety after variety that their friendship is genuine. So I came to believe. I trusted and I understood. Friendship doesn’t work one way, but both ways.

I am a pretty indecisive person. I keep switching my interests from time to time. It was evident when I liked too many boy groups. I had 3 faves at the same time along with SNSD. But they were the only girl group that stayed throughout the years. I may have fallen for other groups, but I kept coming back to them.

It’s like the saying... ‘First love never dies’. And I am always thankful that it is SNSD that is my first love, the one that I always come home to. They make my heart be filled with love.

And I guess, that’s what I am most thankful of. I was about to become a cold-hearted person after a particular heartbreak. But SNSD saved me from that dark place. They were like angels in disguise that swooped in at the right time to stop me from taking a bad leap.

I don’t choose between 9 or 8, because in all honesty, J has been such a big part of who I am just as much as the other girls. I thought I wouldn’t be able to take that heartbreak.  I thought my time as a SONE would come to an end. For all the things I believed in, it would seem like my heart would have shattered. But during that time, I wasn’t the same person back then. I took it with a heavy but understanding heart. I didn’t even try to find out what was real or not. All I wanted was for the girls to be okay. I didn’t want to point a finger to either side. Everyone has their own share of shortcomings and mistakes. I’m just glad we were able to spend at least 7 years. And it’s not like that was the end. Here we are 3 years after and both parties are celebrating 10 years. I am thankful. Not every fandom could say the same.

I have been a SONE for 7 years and my biggest regret was that I did not know them earlier. I would have traded anything to be a SONE since the beginning. But nonetheless, I could say that I have no plans on stopping any time soon. D-day will eventually come but until then, I will keep the same love I felt 7 years ago.

Thank you Soshi for being my companion. Thank you for the laughs. Thank you for the love. Thank you for making music. Thank you for being born.

Girls' Generation is the start of them no matter what, I don't think they'll be able to let go and forget Girls' Generation (소녀시대) if they were to say that they are already going on their own. Ofcourse i'll be supporting them when they decided to go by themselves but idk if i'll be able to grasp the idea of Girls' Generation that started from 9 members is getting less and less until they're all gone and then the girl group that I admired is now just a memory of past. #GIRLS6ENERA10N #소녀시대10주년
