a/n: i was obviously inspired by 'without me' by halsey hehe i hope you'll like this first imagine, sorry if it's bad.

Ever since it began, you knew you would never be his priority.

Min Yoongi was born to make music. It was in his blood, there was nothing you could do about it. Music was his first love, the only thing he could really understand. It was his passion. He was so good at it, so good that his career blew up in no time without neither of you noticing.

Yoongi always tried to maintain a tough guy image, but he had never fooled you. When you had met him, he was extremely insecure. He didn't believe he could achieve anything, refused to look at himself the mirror, considered himself a monster. You had come into his life when he needed you the most, and you had picked up the broken pieces of him. You told him every single day how much of a talented and amazing person he was, you held him tightly in your arms and let him cry his frustration out when he needed to, you tried your best to make him feel better through small but meaningful gestures like cooking for him, coming over to his studio in the middle of the night when he asked you to, listened to him rant about anything and everything... It was nothing to bother you, you actually enjoyed these moments a lot. He did too, and never failed to remind you how much you meant to him. That's how it had started : he was your home, and you were his shelter, his inspiration.

When things had started to change, you couldn't honestly say you were surprised. When the texts and calls had become less frequent, when he would only come home after 1 AM, when the two of you stopped seeing each other as much as you used to... You had seen it all coming. It hurt, but it was predictable, because you knew you would never be his priority. He would always put his music first, and you totally understood that. Who were you to get in his way and claim to be more important, after all? You weren't that type of person, so you had given him all the space he needed to pursue his dreams, and watched him grow from a fair distance.

But what if the price to pay was too big?

You were now standing in the middle of a crowd, right in front of the stage, watching Yoongi making his dreams come true. Everyone around you was going crazy, screaming and cheering, while you just stood there, looking up at the man who used to look at you with so much adoration that it had your heart skipping a beat. And now he was on the stage, on top of the charts, on top of the world, on top of everything, and you shouldn't feel so empty since this was all you ever wished for him, but right now, standing in the middle of the stage and illuminated by the spotlights, he was a total stranger to you. He had barely texted you and when he had, it'd mostly been to tell you not to wait up, as always, because he would have to work late. You hadn't seen him in three months, he had missed your birthday and your four years anniversary. As you looked at him while he performed with his group, you couldn't help but wonder what went wrong. Where did you fail? Was it about you? Weren't you his shelter? His inspiration? That's when it hit you. You had lifted him up when he was at his lowest, you had motivated him when he believed in nothing, you had fixed him to the top. You were the one who put him up there. And he had forgotten that.

Yoongi's voice echoed through the living room of your shared apartment. The lights were out so he could barely see anything, but he could sense something had changed. He took off his jacket, kicked off his shoes and stepped further into the room, searching for you. You were nowhere to be found. He searched for his phone in his pockets and dialed your number while finally turning on the lights. Everything seemed in the right place, nothing had changed, until he entered your bedroom. The empty bed was perfectly made. The alarm clock you always set at 7am and sounded so annoying to him was gone. The small iron box you put your jewelry in was gone. Your phone charger was not on the nightstand anymore. Your laptop wasn't laying randomly on the floor anymore. Your favorite jacket wasn't hanging in the corner of the room anymore. He opened the closet and your clothes weren't there anymore. He went to the bathroom and your toothbrush wasn't there anymore.

"Hello, this is Y/N! I'm unreachable for the moment, so leave a message and I'll try to call you back as soon as I can."

The room span around him as your answering machine ringed through his ears. Could this be real? Were you really gone? He stepped back into the bedroom and finally noticed the small piece of paper placed on his pillow. With his heart beating fast, he unfolded it and read the note you had left.

"How does it feel to be sitting up there? Feeling so high but too far away to hold me."

It was near sunrise, and you were reaching your destination. Not having anywhere else to go, you had decided on staying at a friend's place for a while, in a small town that was only accessible by train. You watched the daylight peak through the landscape, thinking Yoongi must have realized you were gone by now. You hadn't planned on leaving him, but that night, after the concert, you had cried all night and realized that this was how your life was going to look like, that this was all you would ever get from him. You couldn't help the one last tear that slipped out of your eye as you nuzzled your face in your arms. Funny how you were the one who needed a shelter now, because you had lost your home.
