Ever since his divorce, Matt put dating on the back burner. It wasn’t top priority for him at the moment. Some nights get lonelier than others, but he heard too many dating horror stories from his single friends. He doesn’t know if it’s something he could deal with, frankly. Matt settled on being a single— At least for a while.

Matt got invited out to dinner by his of friends. His younger brother, Nick had somewhere else to go, so it was just going to be him. He didn’t mind because Matt knew he was going to have a fun night with his friends.

The brunet headed in the restaurant. His coffee colored eyes glanced around, and he didn’t see a familiar face quite yet. “A table for five,” Matt told the host. The host guided him to a table, and he ranked them. He pulled his cellphone out. Matt typed a message to the group chat, letting them know he was here. The Californian is used to being late to the hangout sessions. He assumed he was a little bit earlier than the others.

Frequently, Matt and Gionna went shoe shopping together. Their friendship was built on their love of sneakers. Whether Matt liked to admit it or not, he wanted more with the younger blonde. He didn't think it'd ever happen with the way things were going. The ever-determined Californian isn't going to give up completely. Matt walked around the shop with Gionna. He looked up at a pair of shoes she pointed out. "You can't reach them?" Matt hated seeing her struggle to try to reach the shoes. "I got it, Princess." The nickname he gave her slipped from his lips. He grabbed the shoes from the shelf. His brown orbs were fixed on the blonde. "You have such great taste, Gio," Unknowingly, his voice deepened a bit. They were in a secluded part of the store, and he leaned in closer. His lips were less than an inch away from her plump ones. "I like that about you." Matt pulled away as he placed the shoebox in her hands.

After the trios match Matt had with his younger brother and close friend, he needed to clear his mind. Matt’s fingertips absent-mindedly the table in catering. The only thing he could think about was the conversation with his ex-wife, his first love. Her words ran through his mind nonstop, “Matt, it’s over completely. I have moved on,” The dark-haired man hoped to reunite with her. Matt and his estranged wife talked about things as if they were going to work things out. He would’ve put himself through the ringer if that meant they’d be back together again. Deep down, he knew they weren’t meant to be. Not anymore.

Matt can’t remember the last time he felt this way. The last time he experienced this much heartache was years ago. If he wasn’t waiting for his brother, he would’ve left the building. His copper eyes were fixed on the table when he heard a voice. A sweet voice rang through his ears. Matt looked over to his side to see the beauty before him:

Jade Cargill.

The Californian knew of Jade, but they’ve never had a conversation. Matt would pass her by in the halls quite often. Her presence is commanding. There is no question the beauty has all his attention. Matt realized he was staring a little bit too long. Matt cleared out his throat, “This seat is not taken,” His fingers ran through his long brunet locks as he let out a nervous chuckle. “You can sit here, of course.”  Matt added.
