Iβm thinking about Kimimaro as a tiny five year old thinking himself selfish for wanting to be around Orochimaru, for tentatively asking Orochimaru to play with him, or train with him or read to him. Kimimaro right from the start thinking himself unworthy of being around Orochimaru only to become one of Orochimaruβs most treasured apprentices ππ

Β Β Β Β Β Β To tie it up with this headcanon about Kimimaro's kekkei-genkai, I wanted to talk about just how strong his bones actually are in a way that can be understood properly. We've seen in canon that his bones are strong enough to withstand being buried under the sand by Gaara, which isn't so crazy when we keep in mind that: one, his bones are not normal human bones, and two, in general bones are only/mainly made to withstand compressive forces.
Β Β Β Β Β Β Normal human bones are approximately four times stronger than concrete, given that a cubic inch of bone can in principle bear a load of 19,000 lbs (8,626 kg), and if comparing by weight, a human bone is actually stronger than steel since a bar of steel of comparable size would weigh four or five times as much while having about the same compressive strength.
Β Β Β Β Β Β A key thing to keep in mind also when talking about Kimimaro and his unique ability, is that bones are live tissue. There are hollow cavities, porous areas, and really dense areas in different parts of a bone. With that in mind, one of Kimimaro's canon abilities is to increase the density of his bones at will, and that is what he does to use his skeleton as a weapon.
Β Β Β Β Β Β Compressive force resistance is not enough to make him the deadly shinobi he is, he needs impact strength resistance and that is only achieved by him by having denser bones. But denser bones mean heavier bones.
Β Β Β Β Β Β Steel is generally used for most things that require compressive resistance as well as considerable impact resistance due to its ability to get stronger. Ballistic steel is a tough, bendable, long-lasting, and weldable product with a wide range of applications, it has higher fracture toughness and hardness than most other steel types, making it more resistant to impacts from projectiles or explosives. Other important properties include corrosion resistance, strength-to-weight ratio, and flexibility.
Β Β Β Β Β Β The thing is, steel us much heavier than bones, and Kimimaro has the ability to carry the weight of steel-like bones and change it at will. This ability is one of the reasons Orochimaru considered him his ideal vessel, a walking bulletproof vest, capable of using his own bones as weapons of mass destruction and shields able to withstand explosive damage.
Β Β Β Β Β Β Another thing to add is that Kimimaro is heavy, he doesn't look like it and if you were to weight the amount of fat and muscle he has on his body, he would be considered thin but because he can alter the density of his bones at will, he can get extremely heavy as in tons. If you need another example, you could use Kimimaro's bones as support beams and pillars to build houses and buildings, but just as easily use it as a bulletproof shield.Β

Β Β Β Β Β Β Kimimaro is a child whose heart belongs to spring. He thrives when flowers are blooming and the fauna is a live, it is as if the forests around Otogakure are brought back to life and it flows through him as well. It is a time of the year where the weather is warm but not overwhelmingly so, and April showers fall abundantly watering the land. Kimimaro enjoys the poetry of spring, the worldly version of flowers growing over graves.Β

Β Β Β Β Β Β Kimimaro is a gemini, but not in the usual sense it is used to refer to a person. Kimimaro is a gemini as someone who hides behind a facade, a gemini as the duality of the ocean - placid and beautiful but merciless and dangerous. A gemini as someone lost within himself, struggling to find a purpose within himself and only finding it in another. A gemini as the eerie atmosphere of a lake in the winter, or the unsettling feeling of an empty cemetery. A gemini as a shadow, always portraying a different someone depending on the light.Β

I don't think people fully understand the complete devotion kimimaro has/feels for orochimaru like there is nothing, absolutely nothing kimimaro wouldn't do for orochimaru. if orochimaru asked him to gauge his own eyes out for him, kimimaro would do it without a single second of hesitation, if orochimaru asked kimimaro to chew his own arm off he would do so too without even blinking. there is nothing, absolutely nothing he wouldn't do, no one he wouldn't kill for orochimaru. he lives and breathes for orochimaru, that is his sole purpose for existing, which is why losing that purpose due to his illness was so devastating to him.

I won't expand too much on it on this blog, since it doesn't really matter to my portrayal of Kimimaro as much as it matters to my Orochimaru, but from time to time I come across posts of people being confused and angry(?) at the shinobi villages for not going after Orochimaru and it reminds me that most people don't think further than what they see or read in the source material. There can only be two reasons for the fact that Orochimaru has never been actively hunted down and arrested, one of them beingβ¦most villages don't care about him that much, he only canonicaly has conflicts with Konoha and Suna and even those villages didn't care to look for him with the intensity one might have expected which brings me to the second and most probable reason: the villages know where he is, especially since in canon otogakure is not a real village, all other villages includin konoha know where he is and don't care to find him. And why? Because he most likely provides them with services, being primarily a scientist Orochimaru is probably working on a plethora of projects that he later on sells to these villages for money. Thus securing his and his children's safety. That's why any attempt at warning Hiruzen about his presence in Konoha was promptly ignoredβ¦that's why Orochimaru took Sai so easily into his hideout.

Β Β Β Β Β Β Kimimaro was/is a very strange person, and part of that strangeness comes from being raised by Orochimaru (konoha's number 1 weird kid). Kimimaro was constantly scaring people or making them feel uneasy by how willing he was to pull out bones from his own body for the simplest and most ridiculous reasons. Someone just "damn, i can't get that from up there" and Kimimaro goes "here, use this" and hands them his femur. He continues to do that from childhood to 'adulthood', completely unaware of how it makes people feel unsettled and uncomfortable.

Β Β Β Β Β Β [Β @sagemomΒ ]Β π±πππΈπ΄π³ ππ·π΄πΈπ π³π΄π°π³Β > What is a dream and/or a nightmare your muse had and can't forget? <
Β Β Β Β Β Β If we are talking literal dreams and nightmares, Kimimaro is unable to have any. Ever since his illness manifested he suffers from what we ( in real life ) call CharcotβWilbrand syndrome (CWS), which is specifically characterised by an impairment in recognizing visually presented objects, and loss of ability to mentally recall or "revisualize" images, a patient loses the power to conjure up visual images or memories, and furthermore, ceases to dream during his sleeping hours. As a very young child, he had dreams and nightmares, as childish as they were, but is no longer able to remember them.Β
Β Β Β Β Β Β Now if we are talking figuratively, his dream is to become Orochimaru's vessel, is to be what Orochimaru needs him to be. And as for a nightmare, that eventually comes true and crushes that very dream he had, is to be unable to fulfill his purpose. Not being able to serve as Orochimaru's perfect vessel is a nightmare come to life.Β

Β Β Β Β Β Β Kimimaro and food had never had a good or common relationship. He spent most of his early life, surviving on scraps that were thrown his way by his clansmen, scraps of spoiled food, any thing that was left after their own meals, was given to him. Fed only enough not to die. It is only when he is taken in by Orochimaru that he finally is allowed to eat like a normal person.Β
Β Β Β Β Β Β Even then, Kimimaro really doesnβt care much for food. He eats because it is expected of him, because he needs to care for his body β because it will one day become Orochimaruβs body. In Otogakure he starts to discover his tastes and what he likes and doesnβt like.
Β Β Β Β Β Β Kimimaro prefers plain foods, not too much seasoning, only salt and pepper if any. He dislikes heavy meals, things with too much oil or red meats, he also dislikes sweets, preferring more bitter flavours. His favourite food, isnβt really a food, but rather tea β he is a fan of black tea, as well as more flowery blends such as jasmine and rose tea.Β
