I keep thinking about Mike's false wisdom, how his biggest failures in life are as a parent - he cannot protect and he cannot provide - and how still he brings the trappings of paternalism to leverage in every situation. The way he made Kim and Jimmy feel like small children after their Howard scheme spiraled out of control, as though his schemes were any more defensible. (Re: Kim/Jimmy and Mike, there's a venn diagram of pieces between them like, I hate him for his theory of how the world works that is not working for me, he's a dad figure, he could decide to kill me but I don't think he will today, I can work with this.) How Kim and Mike barely knew each other, and basically their only interaction is him projecting that he will protect them, and no matter how competently he handled the aftermath, he failed.

The hollowness of his authority brought out her rage and her flight instinct, because once again it was demonstrated that no one else was going to save her, that even parsimonious words mean nothing, and it was a mistake to let someone try. The way Kim's choice to leave parallels not only Jimmy's choice to stay, but Mike acting like there are no more choices for him. He's a father, his path is set unlike the children in the narrative who are still being formed. It's a horrible kind of found family. Jimmy wanting a father figure who is a wolf vs. Kim's apparent allergy to the idea of a dad at all is part of the wedge between them; regurgitating his bad advice about suppressing trauma was one of the final straws when she left him.

After all that, people still take his words and say, "tell me how to run my life the way you told them." Like, that is Mike's personal confidence game tactic working through the screen, and another way the show almost breaks the fourth wall and makes the audience almost complicit in the character's bad decisions.

1. if you could switch bodies with anybody for only one hour who would it be and what would you do?

Hmmmm. If it was ‘anything’ I’d switch with something with wings. But if it has to be a person then I guess the next best thing? Like a Circe du Soleil arial performer? Yeah, I think that’d be cool, but also after an hour I’d be kinda done. Perfect.

2. whats your most trivial / dumbest hot take?

I don’t have baths after dark. No one should. The nighttime monsters are gonna get you, if you’re wet after sundown. I don’t make the rules 🤷🏽‍♂️

3. If you had to teach a college course what would it be in?

Something animal related. Or problem solving and problem prevention. Like, I always say you can’t teach common sense but… maybe I could try?? Cause I think I’d be pretty good at it! Maybe not college. Get them earlier. While they’re malleable. Teach them how to spot shit that’s about to hit the fan. And what they can do to prevent it! Teach them how to walk into a room and register the 13 things that need to be addressed / fixed / saved / cleaned before they walk back out of the room. Yeah. I’d be good at that.

4. season 12 of shameless is suddenly happening and you’ve been put in charge! what plot point(s) are you gonna make happen?

I want them all to be settled and happy. I don’t need life to be perfect. But just…

I like Lip being into the building and decorating, but he’s soon gonna miss using his brain, so I’d like him to move into either the architecture side of things or the business management and franchising side of things.

I love Ian & Mickey being happily married forever and ever, and they’ve gone through so much shit, they should just get to be happy, but! I hate that all mentions of Ian’s bipolar were cut from season 11. This doesn’t just go away. Show me how well they deal with it now, but also how it’s still hard, and how it touches a part of Mickey’s hurt and trauma that he doesn’t want to achonowledge, and how sometimes it makes Ian self-loathing and mean and Mickey scared and angry, and when they get like this they lash out at each other. And then show me how, even when things are hard, they continue to fight for each other and choose each others, because they will ALWAYS choose each other.

Sandy is going to come back and Debbie and her are gonna make a real go of it.

Carl is going to buy and run The Alibi and it’s going to be awesome.

Mouse was named after Michael ‘Mouse’ Tolliver (Tales of the City) by Ruth and after Mouse the Temple Dog from Jim Butcher’s Dresden Files by me. Full Name: Mouse McFeathers.

Howard was named after the foreman in charge of a big building project at the farm, at the time when we rescued him as a kitten. Howard Alan Crisp, giving his name to our three kittens Howard, Alan, and Crispy. Full Name: Howard ‘Bonk Bonk’ Bambino.

Wiggins was named after the cyclist Bradley Wiggins, because he was big at the time, and it was better than Froome, which was the other name on the table, and closest to Arthur, which is what I wanted to call him. In the end we let Mouse choose by writing all the names on pieces of paper, folding them up, and picking the one she swiped off the table. Full Name: Wiggins Dangerbean.

Just a small post about some HPE items still in stock that I really like, starting with

The mini version of the Gherkin that's coming my way. 😍. i love how the colors are inverted. I'm sad to say that my dragon brain would have definitely got this if it was a medium, even though I'm sure it would just be display* only. i can't believe it's even still in stock, but that just goes to show that my tastes are definitely a bit... Mmmmm... yeah.

This large, soft Isonade, which would complete my Isonade collection. I'm still very much on the fence on if I even want a large, since the small version is such a perfect size. i just love a pink tip and highlights over grey... speaking of which,

You know I love a good match. i love how the grey highlights over the pink spines. ugh, dreamy! This is a small, soft, which is what I'm wanting, but I'm still holding out for a perfect pour. There are dings- a lot of them. They chime at least 10 seconds from each other. My sleepy brain doesn’t want to make sense of it. They go on two more times, then it stops. Now I can’t go back to sleep. Groaning, I pick up the phone.

In total darkness, my phone emits enough light to be a star. Not looking forward to the big reveal of who’s been texting me, I dismiss the lock screen first to turn the brightness down. Once done, I bring the notification center down. My sleep-crusted eyes grow tenfold. 

Malcolm had been texting me.

Before I can respond, an incoming call from Malcolm appears at the top of the screen. I groan again. He could’ve given me some time.

“Are you awake?” Malcolm asks. He sounds tired himself.

I roll my eyes. “No, Malcolm. I’m answering from the grave.”

“M’sorry. Didn’t mean to wake you. My weed guy’s not pickin’ up.”

Really? At this hour? Who would've thought?

“I don’t know where you can get weed, Malcolm.”

“That’s not why I called!” He spits. The line goes quiet for a while. He must be collecting himself. “I didn’t know who else to call.” 

“Everything okay?” I ask.

“Remember my date today?”

Eye roll again. Good thing he’s not here. “Yeah.”

“She never showed up.”

How stupid I look with my jaw dropped would cheer him up. I should take a picture. “You’re lying.” 

“I tried calling and everything. No answer. I dunno what I did wrong.”

When Malcolm first told me he’d been talking to someone, it was the happiest I’d seen him. But God, did I hate that someone else was making him happy. Through concealed jealousy, I did what I could to prepare him for his date. All for it never to come to fruition. And he’s blaming himself. I feel terrible.

“It’s not your fault Malcolm. For her not to call, she probably had a good reason.” I can understand flaking at the last minute. “Maybe she had an emergency.”

He goes quiet again before continuing. “Yeah. Things happen.”

“You’re a good guy, Malcolm.”

I can hear liquid pouring. “Are you drinking?” I ask.

“If I say yes, will you hang up?”

I sigh. “No.”

He pauses. “Yeah. It’s my good wine too.” He chuckles dryly. At least he’s at home.

“Save some for me. I’ll come over tomorrow to make sure you’re still alive.” I’m not good at consoling, but I can try to lighten the mood.

“You don’t drink.” I can hear him smile through the phone. “I’ll be fine.”

“You promise?”

“I promise. I’ll be okay.”

I want to give him the whole spiel about meeting new people, but I’d be lying. I don’t want to see him with anyone else. Malcolm probably doesn’t want to hear it. I’d hate to say the wrong thing and play a role in his fractured self-esteem. 

It’s silent for a while, but it’s comforting. It was nice knowing that Malcolm was on the other end, and he was going to be okay. I’d hate to ruin it, but something’s on my mind.

“Malcolm, can I ask you something?”

“Yeah.” I can hear the bottle pop off his lips. He must’ve gotten tired of pouring glass after glass.

“Why did you call me?”

“...The weed guy wasn’t answering.” Believable, but why call me afterward? He usually would want to be left alone in a situation like this.

“Wow. You know how to make a girl feel special.”

“It’s not like that…I…uh.” He murmurs something unintelligible. It was wrong of me to put him on the spot.

“Forget it, Malcolm. It’s ok- ”

“You’re the only person I’ll listen to. Like, when you say I’ll be okay. Or I’m a good guy. I believe it. ‘Cuz you’re sayin’ it.”

I felt like the wind was knocked out of me.

“Oh.” It’s the only thing I can say.

Malcolm lets out a long, drawn-out sigh. He’s been waiting to exhale. “Yeah. You’re probably well off without me.”

I was worried he’d spiral. “Don’t say that.” 

“No, no…I’m not trying to upset you. Shit. Puck, I- uh.” He’s overflowing now. He can’t stop leaking. “I think you’re amazing. I really do. I just think that we…should talk about something else.”

I felt like I got off the world’s most disappointing rollercoaster. I loathe where I am right now.

I can’t get a refund, and I popped my balloon on the way home.

What a ride.

“Hey,” Malcolm continues, “you’re still coming over tomorrow, right?”

“Yeah, I am.” I hope he’s too drunk to hear my annoyance.

He clears his throat. “Before I called you, I ordered a puzzle on Amazon. It’ll be here tomorrow.”

I chuckle. “You should know better than to shop and drink, Malcolm.”

He laughs too. It’s refreshing when it’s genuine. “It’s a penguin puzzle. 1000 pieces.”

“Penguins. Sounds cute.”

“You’re cute.”

“Huh?” 

I want to make sure I heard that correctly.

“You’re…coming tomorrow, yeah?” He laughs it off awkwardly. “A thousand pieces isn’t easy alone.”

Why is he doing this? 

“Yeah, I’ll be there. Drink some water and go to bed, okay?” It’s getting late. Or early. I want to hang up and put my head in a hole. It’d be perfect for the scream I want to let out.

“M’kay, only because you asked me to. G’night.”

I say goodnight and hang up. I rub my temples, attempting to rearrange every thought in my head. Did Malcolm just call me cute? Did he always think I was cute? Why couldn’t he admit it? Why couldn’t I tell him how I felt?

 A massive fumble. I’m going to bed.

Surprisingly, I was able to sleep. When I woke up, Malcolm was on my mind. I thought about how stupid we are for keeping secrets. How dumb I was for not realizing why he’d always confide in me. Last night in it’s eternity, could’ve been avoided.

Picking up my phone, I saw that Malcolm texted me this morning. He sent two messages and an image.

For writing : our favourite characters we've made are Venos and Myrin (veh-noe-ss & meer-in)

For Rick and Morty : Rick punches us directly in the autism lmao

Writing : We've been writing since we were like . . . 6 ? According to some stuff our grandma has kept

Cannibalism : We fell down a Wikipedia rabbit hole a couple years ago , and it evolved from there .

Rick and Morty : We grew up on Futurama because it's our dad's favourite show , and someone once told us Rick and Morty was similar ( idk if I'd say it is , lmao ) , so we watched it . That was like 2 years ago I think .

Moths : Our most recent special interest , and currently our most intense . Could be a hyperfix , but generally we can tell when smth is a special interest early on .

✖️️ Is there something you don’t like about your special interest?

Writing : Can be extremely hard to do for us sometimes , esp since our physical disability makes us unable to handwrite and makes typing for a long time very difficult .

Cannibalism : People judge us for it, and assume we romanticize irl cannibalism . We don't . Cannibalism is extremely bad for your own mental ( and often physical ) health , and to do it nonconsensually is just as bad as the murder you probably had to do to get to it . Consensual cannibalism is also wrong bc of the health thing , and also I don't think people should be able to consent to that . Cannibalism in the name of general survival is a necessary evil , and not something to glamorize . We do romanticize the hell out of entirely fictional and often very unrealistic cannibalism ( like in NBC Hannibal )

Rick and Morty : The show can be problematic at times , which is hard for us to accept . The use of the R slur , even though said by an autistic character and likely written in by an autistic person , is a big example of this , bc the VA is probably not autistic . There are also other bad things the show has done .

Rick and Morty :

"He's meta, Morty. His life doesn't matter. Yours does. That's why we need to get back."

Rick says this to Morty , but when he says "yours does" he looks directly at the camera . It sounds stupid , but reminding myself of that part really helps when I feel like my life doesn't matter akdjsjsjsjs .

"I'm not touching that thing. I'll get neurotypical cooties."

Rick says this in reference to a drill ship made by the president's scientists . It's another acknowledgement that Rick's autistic , which is rad , and also it's just hella funny .

Cannibalism : The disease associated with cannibalism ( called Kuru , often compared to Mad Cow Disease , which is a different TSE ) is actually only transmittable by eating brain tissue , coming into contact with infected flesh , or if one or both of your parents have it . So you won't get mad cow disease from eating someone , and you probably won't even get a similar disorder . Avoid the brain and the chances you'll get it are slim .

OMG I have fallen in LOVE with your Android!Billy harringrove AU! My brain dreamt up a part 3 last night when I got the notification about part 2, so I was so happy!!🥰🥰😊 So in my brain's dream version of part 3, Billy and Steve are finally semi getting along, due to Billy showing an interest in Steve's writing. Their relationship is slowly leveling up, until one day, a kidnapper squad hired by a rival businessman to Steve's dad comes to take steve hostage. Steve is injured and panicked, and Billy goes full Rambo on the goons using a frying pan and a rolling pin. Afterwards, Billy rushes to Steve and worries about him, and Steve tells him he's okay, before he passes out. I love your stuff soooo much! You write really well!

Oh❣ So glad you like it so much thank you. This is defiantly not where the story is going (I’m in the middle of part three and I already started a lil porny bit that will hopefully be in part 4 if I managed to keep it in line of what I am planning) bu,but but❗❗❗

This is such a fun take though and I could totally see it. Like in a slow build where they spend more time easing into thing, instead of Billy trying to give Steve vitamin supplements via his cock first thing the next morning >o< and Steve is like yeah absolutely not instead of lapping it up. Steve all cagey and resistant to all of Billy’s attempts in the beginning but eventually he wearing Steve down with his genuine interest and he ability to not be a little shit all of the time. Billy sits there dutifully listening to Steve work out his story idea just offering the minimal encouraging comments, he’s being Steve’s rubber duck. 🦆

Steve’s dad us doesn’t know or care about keeping his family safe, no one would dare touch his wife wealthy and connected in her own right but Steve his only heir is left unprotected except by Billy so of course his competitors thing Steve is an easy target. It’s one of the few times he goes out without Billy right there trying to get better about it because Joyce wants him to work on it and he’s trying. Gets snatches a short distance from the house, far enough away that Billy can’t hear the commotion, doesn’t realize something is wrong until he finally breaks to go follow his Steve. He isn’t supposed to Steve told him to stay home but he can’t help worry after his fragile human companion.

Billy sees red when he finds evidence of the abduction and he defiantly breaks more than a few laws in order to track down who took Steve. They aren’t holding him that far away and Billy notifies Mrs. Harrington and then goes to get his Steve. The kitchen happens to be the least defended area to make his entrance which is how he ends up with a frying pan 🍳 and rolling pins for weapons, they are very effective, Billy plans to take them home with them. None of them survive once Billy finds Steve bloodied and beaten.

Steve defiantly tries to put on a brave face for Billy but passing out just makes Billy panic even though he can read all of Steve vitals. Still he is reluctant and refuses to leave Steve’s side even when EMT’s arrive and Mrs. Harrington and her arsenal of lawyers are the only reason Billy is both aloud to go with Steve and why he isn’t decommissioned.

Billy being an over protective nurse maid and not letting Steve go anywhere alone ever again while a little much for some are absolutely what Steve needs and he’s definitely making heart eyes 😍 at Billy. It a few weeks later when he’s more healed that they finally have sex and Billy is finally given full permission to take care of all of Steve needs. Refusing anything more than slow and tender until Steve is fully healed regardless of Steve’s insistence that he can take more.

dream job: i don’t know if it’s the old age talking but over the years i’ve realised that i would probably be happy and fulfilled in any job that allows me to fully utilise my skills/creativity and makes me feel indispensable to the company. i would love to actually sit down and write a full novel or screenplay one day tho. my friend and i told ourselves that we’d do this before we turn 30 but uhh... the clock is ticking lmao
