My most personally beloved OC story is actually Farmer's Breakfast although I'm shy about explaining it... LOOK at this OLD OLDDD little thing I made for it.
Tumblr media
It's basically a series of chapters strung together following Matthew Campbell (the protagonist) and him experiencing horrors in this small new town that he recently moved to. Matthew is a deputy sheriff in training. He actually was formerly working on a police force in a large city, but he was dismissed due to him being a whistleblower in a sense against misconduct and cruelty that his coworkers were covering up. He's one of those types of people who becomes part of law enforcement out of an actual desire to do good. But, when he sees the corruption, he tries to remain optimistic that it was just a case of that specific city having fostered an environment where bad apples were allowed to flourish. Not that corruption is rampant in this occupation. Looks at the camera.
After being fired, he decides to move across state, in search of new work. And he finds a job offer in an isolated, rural town. Turns out the police department in this new town is small and not particularly picky. The sheriff pretty much offers him the job on the spot, upon meeting him. Despite his record of being fired formerly. And he gets started as soon as he can. Moving into town with his boyfriend. And basically, he starts working but eventually realizes that The Sheriff, his mentor, is also corrupt. He realizes this after they do a police raid on the local Diner and The Butcher is shot and killed. The Baker escaped, presumably through a basement window.
The Baker & The Butcher worked together at the local diner. The Baker had feelings of affection and even romance towards the Butcher but he was such an abrasive and guarded guy, he never told him before he died. Additionally, The Baker had formerly been known to be mean to The Butcher: ordering him around and losing his patience quickly. The Baker was volatile and maybe that's why he became resolved to get back at the police force. Particularly Matthew, who he blamed for The Butcher's death the most. Because Matthew had visited the diner soon after moving in and reported... Suspicious activity happening at the diner to his boss. Basically, The Baker spends the whole story hunting down the police and working his way up to Matthew, who he wants revenge on most of all.
Tbh The Baker is also sort of a protagonist to me. -_- In an opposite side of the story way. ANYWAY. It turns out that The Baker is part of an underground ... Uhh group of people who are business partners in an illegal food production organization making and selling processed meat (questionably and not entirely ethically sourced from genetically engineered creatures called "fleshworms". Fleshworms are actually genetically engineered humans of course. I know it's sort of basic โ˜น๏ธ). This company is the town's main source of income. Almost all of the town's residents are aware of this. Except for Matthew and his boyfriend. So Matthew is stuck in this town in the absolute middle of nowhere being hunted down by pretty much every business owner there. And shenanigans ensue.
But each "Chapter", focuses on Matthew contending with a different, specific antagonist in his efforts to escape. As the story progresses, he learns more about the whole operation and slowly loses his mind. Certain characters are "main" characters who appear across multiple chapters (Matthew, his boyfriend (no name yet ๐Ÿ‘ค), The Baker, The Farmer, a mysterious girl who is later found out to be the Farmer's Daughter). And other characters are more fleeting, only appearing as antagonists for one or even two chapters (The Honeydipper, The Weatherman, etc. etc...) Also, most characters are only known by (and consequently referred to as) their job titles in the narrative. Some of the people in town are willing to be allies to Matthew, but often for a price. I'll leave it there but it's a story I've had for like two/three years now! :DD Don't know what I'd like to do with it yet, but since it's so important to me, it's probably going to be a big, long project (in the future when I've got a couple other projects under my belt)!!!
