The Old Chateau - History and Overview
Eterna Forest's Old Chateau (dubbed in recent years by the locals as Mori no Yōkan (森の洋館)) is a sprawling estate situated in the north of the forest, nestled within large throngs of evergreen trees. The style of the manor is perplexing, mirror the architectural style of buildings commonly found overseas in regions like Unova or Galar.
Though a lot of the history of the family that built their mansion there has been lost to time, the style of the building makes sense upon learning of the family's overseas origin. They moved over to Sinnoh by boat, seeking to expand their business in an outside market.
This family, however, was besmirched and cursed by their own misfortune.
The boat ride over had been treacherous, as choppy waters and rough waves unlike any seen before battered the ship. It nearly capsized a couple of times, but fortunately remained righted as they made their first step into the Sinnoh region. With ungodly amounts of wealth, they were able to predetermine where they wanted their new estate built before they had even touched down on the land, having planned it all out long before they officially arrived.
Enough of the mansion had been built already for them to live in at the time, though by the time the manor had actually been finished in the early 1940's, tragedy struck.
The family dined separately from their staff of butlers and maids, and one of their rather old butlers had suffered a fatal heart attack during dinner. It happened right at the table, killing him before anyone could even think to move and help.
Since that day, both the family and the staff saw strange happening in the dining room. An apparition of this ghostly butler often seen sitting in the very place he died, sometimes moving towards the kitchen area. Upon entering, he was nowhere to be found, but the area took on an unmistakable chill.
This would not be the last of their misfortunes. The husband of the family would go on to have an affair with a woman from his now failing business - a secretary - leaving his wife to find out the hard way upon his affair partner becoming pregnant, and then dumping their child on him.
Though his wife was indescribably irate, she would stay, if only for the money.... but it became clear that this treachery had made this a woman most wicked. As the illegitimate daughter would grow older, so would the woman's ire. It was harder to look at the girl and not be reminded of her husband's betrayal.
In a fit of hysteria, one fateful autumn night, the wife would dose her husband's meal with a lethal dose of poison, before locking the illegitimate daughter in an empty, windowless room. With her husband having keeled over within the next few hours of dinner, and the daughter abandoned in a forgotten room, the wife would take the other three children and leave the manor. They left the Sinnoh region entirely, a dead father, a dead daughter, and a dying business left in their wake.
By the time police had arrived to the manor for a wellness check, it was too late. They discovered the body of the husband, sat in a plush chair in the library, eerily still... as if he'd simply fallen asleep, and would wake to return to his reading material at any moment. They discovered the body of the illegitimate daughter next. They took both of the bodies away, and with no way to contact the wife, the manor was condemned and fell quickly into disrepair due to the harsh Sinnohan elements.
The Old Chateau was quickly accosted by various ghost-type pokemon, including a Rotom that quickly overtook the family's old black-and-white television, among other appliances. There was great death in this estate, and the negative feelings and emotions that took hold of the building drew them in in droves.
This forgotten manor became a place of urban myth and legend as well to the locals, with rumors spreading quickly about the ghostly butler, along with the room housing the ghostly spirit of the little girl. In the library where the husband died, there were rumors about a painting with glowing red eyes, and a book that, when moved, housed a secret room behind the shelves.
It's become a frequent spot for teenagers and young adults to take part in 'tests of course' (kimodameshi), though as of late the amount of ghosts and their ferocity has kept many at bay.
In the past decade, the path leading up to the manor had become extremely overgrown with various bushes and small plants, becoming entirely inaccessible to the masses. Perhaps, due to the nature of the manor, that was for the best.

The Old Chateau - Layout
Previous HC - Overview/History
The main grounds
The main grounds of the Old Chateau is incredibly large and sprawling, especially when entering the area behind the manor. White, decayed fencing lines the front yard of the house, housing tall evergreen trees and other various bushes and plantlife native to the Sinnoh region. By now, a lot of the vegetation has completely overtaken the grounds, overgrowing and flooding the area in verdant greens. Moss hangs tightly to the cobble and brick of the mansion, while deep green ivy can be seen snaking upwards along various walls of the home.
The plantlife in the backyard is even more sprawling and dense, with the home having a hedge-style garden. Without the proper maintenance, however, this too has fallen into disarray. Various flowering bushes, and flowers that sprout up from the earth, have gone wild and rampant. The backyard is dotted with pops of all the colors one could imagine. More sturdier fencing can be found here, made of iron and metal, though the harsh Sinnohan elements have caused it to slowly be taken by rust.
One of the most dazzling aspects besides the overgrown garden is a full tile pool, also taken by time. The cover over the pool became heavy with foliage and leaves that fell, however it kept the tile protected. The sight of grime, dirt, and mud in the emptied pool itself is unmistakable, but the tiles used to build the pool originally in the late 1940's has avoided being cracked or shattered. The caulking has worn away in some areas, but the pool itself is in shockingly good condition. A matching hot tub rest not far from the pool, though unfortunately, it is in much worse shape than the pool is itself. Some of the tiles in the hot tub have been cracked and completely shattered, and the same grime and dirt can be seen, similar to the pool.
The interior - First floor
Inside of the Old Chateau is where a lot of the wear and age becomes much more apparent, if the outside wasn't enough of a tell. The main foyer is grandiose in scale, given it was the first room guests would see upon entering - it certainly didn't fail to impress. A large, elegant chandelier still hangs over the center of the foyer, covered in thick dust. Strikingly, it is made entirely of glass and steel. When it was powered properly, various colors of light were thrown iridescently across the entrance.
The doorway that rests immediately in front of the main entry leads to the dining room. A large table takes up the bulk of the room, easily able to seat a dozen guests comfortably. An old and tattered tablecloth rests over the cedar wood dining table, with heavy steel candelabra situated at various points at the table. A smaller, but still equally as impressive chandelier rests over the table - similar to the one in the main entry on a smaller scale.
The kitchen of the home lay to the left of the dining room, boasting two large refrigerators, a large, full sink, and two stovetop ovens. The entryway to a large, walk-in pantry is also present, full of shelving to house various foods and other goods, along with cabinetry to house pots, pans, dishware, silverware, and other smaller appliances.
The interior - Second floor
Two grand staircases wind upwards to the second floor, with tattered red running carpets, lined and edged with gold, resting on the tile flooring. The room on the left side after the accompanying staircase is a room that fell into complete disrepair. Part of the roof on this side of the home had fallen in, and a lot of the interior is damaged entirely. It's hard to tell what this room may have been used for in the past, as various odds and ends is strewn about, along with parts of the ceiling and roofing tiles.
The room on the right is a grand library, with dozens of bookshelves lining the walls. A large, arched window faces out towards the forest, bringing in a peaceful atmosphere for reading or studying alike. A fireplace rests against one of the walls. The room is complete with a set of plush, comfortable furniture (that, like the rest of the home, is in need of care and love), a large rug, and a desk. Dust-covered paintings hang on the wall, depicting portraits of people no longer living.
The doorway at the back of the upper hall leads to another long corridor, this one housing all of the rooms at the manor. The same red running carpet found in other parts of the mansion is seen along the hall upstairs as well. Large, arched windows flank either end of the hall, and lamps cling to the wall between each room for additional lighting.
There's a total of three bedrooms, one of which being the master bedrooms, an empty, windowless room, and a room that operates as the 'living room', along with a standalone bathroom for guests not staying overnight.
The first two bedrooms are large in size, each with their own connected bathrooms complete with a full tub, shower attachment, basin, and toilet. Each room also has a large and spacious window overlooking the pool and back garden of the manor. Like the rest of the house, there's also cedar furnishings within in the form
The master bedroom, of course, is about double the size of the normal bedrooms. Old cedar furniture makes its home in the spacious room, all part of a matching set complete with a vanity and stool, dresser, and two bedside tables flanking each side of the bed. The master boasts two large windows overlooking the back garden and courtyard, along with the pool and a sea of cedar trees.
The master bathroom is equally as impressive, hosting its own bathing room with its own window. A large, clawfoot tub rests by the window for an immaculate view, complete with its own shower attachment similar to the other two bedrooms. There's a drain in the middle of the tile, catching any water that isn't contained to the tub and giving the user more of a traditional Sinnohan bathing experience. Separate from the bathing room is a dual set of sinks with a large mirror in front, and another separate room for the toilet.
The other two rooms are more minor, with the living room housing a classical black and white television, a fireplace (with this room being central, and the fireplaces being the only method of heating the mansion), and a matching set of plush red and cedar furniture with that of the library. Similar to all of the other rooms in the house, there's a duo of large arched windows overlooking the backyard. The other room is entirely void and empty, and is the only room in the house that has no windows of any kind. There is a light fixture, but the bulb has been blown out rendering it useless. Oddly enough as well, the door locks from the outside, with no way to lock it from the inside.

Dawn's phone is specially modified to allow for her Rotom, Sadako, to enter and take over as they please, though her phone can function without Sadako. Dawn doesn't want to keep Sadako away from their home - the Old Chateau - for long periods of time. This modification allows Sadako to come and go as they please, making it so they never feel obligated to stay and worry over how Dawn's phone will function without them. The only time Sadako will stay in the phone for long periods of time is when Dawn travels out of the region, like when she took her trip to Paldea with May.
Sadako can also enter Dawn's Poketch, though this is a less frequent occurrence as Dawn generally always has her phone, and the phone has more features naturally than the Poketch does. Her phone and Poketch are connected, and Dawn can read messages and such from her Poketch, but ultimately, Sadako prefers the phone.
When Sadako is in Dawn's phone, they tend to spend time educating themselves when Dawn isn't using it. Things like home repair and maintenance mainly to help aid Dawn in the repair and renovation of the Old Chateau. They also will look around at furniture and decor for the chateau, keeping a list of things to show Dawn at a later time - usually when she's awake. Other times, they'll watch short-form videos
They don't tend to pry much in her messages or emails, generally only responding for Dawn if Sadako knows the person. Usually, Sadako will respond to any of the Leaders or Elites, and May. It's fairly clear when it's Sadako replying vs when it's Dawn replying. Junk/spam numbers and emails are blocked immediately, though Sadako will save some of the funnier spam emails to show Dawn.

What Dawn’s bond with Giratina entails:
Dawn is better protected than most people who enter the Distortion World. Most people cannot mentally stand to be there for lengthy periods of time, but being Giratina’s champion acts as an extra safeguard. With that, and the Lake Trio’s power protecting her, she came out better than most would, especially at her age.
Ghosts love her. Whether it’s ghost-type pokemon, or actual ghosts/departed spirits. It’s not one-hundred percent, but a majority of them are relaxed and chill around her. She can bond with ghost-type pokemon quickly, and they’re drawn to her presence. She’s essentially like a walking haunted house - ghosts are just magnetized to her because of her aura resembling the ghost queen’s herself.
Dawn can both see and talk to ghosts/spirits. This is something she has dealt with for as long as she can remember, with the first time she talked to a spirit happening when she was six. If Dawn uses a oujia board, or any sort of way to connect with the deceased/departed, chances are it will really, actually work.
Dragon-types, to a lesser extent, are also easy for her to bond with, and generally get along with her. This isn’t as strong as her affinity for ghosts, but it’s there. The same could be said for dark-types, though it’s even more faint, given Giratina was one a dark-type before her death.
Dawn has a lot of cryptid-like qualities. She cannot be clearly photographed OR videotaped against her will, and all photos of her come out blurry, dark, and she has glowing red eyes. Something about her doesn’t seem right either, like she’s just human enough to avoid people’s suspicions, but something is clearly off if you really stare at her for a while.
She can safely get through Sendoff Spring, where most would get lost in the dense fog, collapse, and wake up at the entrance, Dawn can hear the whispers of the disembodied voices and follow them to the lake.
Dawn can feel distortional anomalies, points where the barrier between the universe and the Distortion World are weak, and knows where they are and where to avoid them, to avoid falling through to the parallel realm.
She can feel Giratina’s emotions, and vice versa, also connecting to her directly through her thoughts to talk to her. Dawn knows where Giratina is, even when she leaves the dimension entirely. She also shares in Giratina’s pain, which... can be a bit rough sometimes.
In rare moments of intense emotion, unbeknownst to her (as she's never seen it happen), her eye color can match Giratina's. There are also instances in which multiple eyes can appear on her skin, usually when Giratina wants to 'see' through Dawn.
