G.U.N. getting their hands on Metal Sonic is an unprecedented achievement. By using targeted, EMP-based technology to force his self-destruct capabilities offline (they couldn't simply deactivate him temporarily--Doctor Robotnik's technology is far too advanced for simple tricks), overwhelming the robot and dismembering him for transport had proven easier than previous attempts. That didn't mean there weren't casualties; Weapons, though, were worth it to some in the organization. The plan wasn't without flaws, however. Due to the Doctor's foresight, Metal Sonic's programming had begun to effectively eat itself after the attack in an attempt to nullify any tries at understanding the Badnik's engineering or AI. Rendering the effort almost useless. Almost.

Metal Sonic's physical mechanics could still be studied and, by forcing him to stay offline, the engineers at G.U.N. could delay some of his system's unstoppable restructuring--Which left the Badnik docile on awakening, as they tried to study him while he was being erased. Unsurprising for G.U.N. to care little for the longevity of a Robotnik creation; And the project was meant to stay under wraps...

Hands on a keyboard. "Override Accepted." The power source connected to his central processors activated, allowing for a full boot of Metal Sonic's degrading systems. Still strung up by his back, like a cat held by the scruff, with his legs and arms still disconnected to ensure he couldn't reach top speed should he escape, Metal's eyes flicker on dimly. His engine chirps awake. After several moments of quiet, a voice asks:

When he lifts his head to look at the hedgehog that's powered him on, recognition only flashes due to the understanding of his enemies that's written into the very depths of his existence. Sonic the Hedgehog, his allies--They're part of all that remains in his databanks. He is Sonic the Hedgehog, after all. He should be able to, in the end of everything, remember his friends.

A sound of awful scraping accompany scratching beeps: ">> Help..Shad..ow..."

the arena for the ed’s game was a dilapidated city! i take inspo from central city in fma; quite large, circular, winding streets, tightly-packed quadrants, and at the center of it all, the cornucopia. mutated dogs with the ability to mimic human speech roamed the streets ( and some of them shared an uncanny resemblance to fallen tributes, something that was used against ed after nina tucker died - he still swears that the dog that tore his arm off had her eyes ). the buildings were not a complete safe haven, however! many of them were infested with roaches, flies, and/or rats, all of which carried fast-acting illnesses with the potential to be deadly if you couldn’t score medicine from sponsors.

another thing making the buildings potentially unsafe was the possibility of them suddenly collapsing on top of you. to keep things interesting, the gamemakers would methodically demolish unstable buildings, eventually making entire quadrants completely inaccessible with the purpose of either bringing hiding tributes closer to the center, or killing them ( a good few did, in fact, suffocate under the rubble ).

natural resources were very scarce. much of the water to be found was contaminated; tributes had to either get lucky and snag a filter at the cornucopia, risk trying to filter it themselves, or rely on sponsors for water. rain, while also risky ( and infrequent ) was another option. any scraps found within the city were often spoiled and inedible, so many tributes ( ed included ) found themselves killing the street dogs for meat.

various building materials, however, were plentiful; scrap metal, bits of furniture, even car parts were extremely easy to acquire, opening up the possibility for traps and makeshift weapons if tributes were handy enough.

the game lasted 17 days despite the challenges, likely due to the size of the arena. the gamemakers amped up the demolition and released more dogs by the 15th day to push tributes closer together and increase conflict. late in the evening on the 17th day, edward was declared the victor.

THIS IS SUCH A FUN ASK TO RECIEVE THANK YOU VERY MUCH!! i don't usually get to talk about his origins so this'll be fun!!

nicholas backstory is incredibly non-existant in the canon of the soap opera! the only real 'backstory' we get from humbert is that nicholas is the agent '007 of the underworld. he said so very playfully.

that being said, i have nicholas open to two different interpretations - now, in the soap itself there are conflicting pieces of information, because there is different instances where it indicates nicholas is inhuman - and other instances that indicate he may have been human.

CREATURE OF THE DAMNED.

the first interpretation is that nicholas is a creature of the underworld - never having been a human to begin with. "warlock" being a title of what he is since he practices magic. pretty much a minion and conformed to doing the biding of someone else, which i figure is why he schemes so much to get out and acquire power for his own.

there has been various statements in the series that suggest this might be the case, i'll pull up a few that come to mind at the moment…

being seen as a mortal or human, and showing such emotions, are seen as weak and looked down upon. nicholas himself has stated similiar a few times to angelique. along with this, emotions such as love weaken their own magic abilities…

THE DAMNED MAN.

the second interpretation is that nicholas was once human, a long time ago, and became condemned once he started practicing magic as a warlock.

although dynamite comics are rather unpopular ( i don't enjoy the gore and overtly dark storytelling either ) - i do genuinely love the backstory concept they made for nicholas, along with the art of him! i wish his backstory in this wasn't tied to the collins family though. tragic.

this panel has stuck with me for years. the symbolism with the shattered mirror pieces, his eyes, the text. his reflection, his soul broken up into pieces like the glass.

the panel itself alluded to human nicholas selling his soul in a moment of weakness - i can very much see it as a canon fitting backstory for him. did he solely want power? or was it out of desperation of something more personal to him instead? i really enjoy the openness of this interpretation. and the look in his eyes makes it feel like there is more to his story than it appears to be.

as for me Personally, i lean toward his origins being from the underworld. i find his newfound human love of maggie to be very compelling in that way, i always have. it would be a much more compelling narrative to tell - especially considering how devious nicholas is by nature. he would essentially be going against his very own nature, being from the underworld and inhuman. this is one of my favorite things about him and what drew me to his character!

we love a villain that melts his big bad exterior for a loved one👏

*just a small side-note that humbert confirmed evan and nicholas aren't the same person, and i never viewed them that way either.

+ since i rambled on about nicks backstory, i'll keep the headcanon bit more brief - in a debate of whether nicholas is a cat or dog person, i always felt he is a dog person. he looks like a feline but likes dogs! he values their loyalty and finds their behavior amusing to watch.

“Mating Season”

Nikki is not doing well.

It’s been four days, and he’s already going insane. His skin feels like it’s boiling and there’s a constant, weird fucking hunger everywhere on his body. He is not dealing with this year’s heat well.

He is currently sitting on the hotel lobby couch, his leg bouncing as he tries to keep himself occupied with learning braille. But his mind keeps drifting and he keeps squirming, frustrated and hot and bouncing-off-the-walls anxious for no goddamn reason. And horny, but he’s doing everything in his power to keep his mind off of that part.
