old news I know, but Trek writers' ineptitude with romance is just so predictable and yet so extraordinarily varied!
#rewatching early S2#Kira has... fucking remarkably good + charged dynamics with several men#and no not in a gay way sorry I get where that reading comes from but like nope#but the MINUTE they decide that dynamic is SUPPOSED to be romantically charged#splat it goes#(with the quasi exception of course of Miles!#not that the romantic part is any good writing wise ofc just that it doesn't torpedo the entire dynamic#because obv it was never written to be 'real')#man o man#this post is not exclusively about it but Kira/Odo does have a strong claim imo#for absolutely most bungled piece of garbage in the franchise#SEASONS and SEASONS of believable and interesting and well-done material that ABSOLUTELY could have served as a basis for that#perfect themes!! whole point of the damn show is those themes!#and then. that.#ds9 tag#(<- ...that sort of thinking is what leads me to spiteshipping and from there to sincerity#but we're gonna have to give that one some more time. there's badly executed good/fun/fun-terrible premise#but none of the others offend me so deeply on a technical level aaaarg)
