Back in my day, if you typed "good for her" into the tumblr gif search, it immediately brought up multiple versions of the Lucille Bluth gif. We used to be a country.

I'm at a point in a series where I finished the third book and only have the fourth book left, but in my reading of the first three books I've realized I really dislike the writing style and kind of don't want to continue. I tolerated the writing because the plot of the first two books was legitimately quite gripping, but the third book was honestly kind of awful and the payoff for a lot of things set up in the previous two books was so underwhelming that I don't know if it's worth it to read the last book. but I actually bought the book with my own money (I rarely buy books I haven't already read but since I did like the first two books I felt secure that I would like it) and have already read 3/4 of the way through. having a real sunk cost fallacy moment. should I just go ahead and read it? but then when I think about reading it, it kind of feels like when you have to do a task you really don't like!
#I've never done this before but maybe I'll look up the ending to see if it gets better#it's extra frustrating when all the reviews are like ''the writing is so good!'_#and i feel like that gag in arrested development#''her?''#it's not awful writing but it's boring and if the plot isn't there it's truly a slog to get through it

just finished under the bridge (2024) and wow... what a terrible way to handle such a sensitive topic. rebecca talking about her book is her/the writers talking about the series and i just don't think their vision came across as intended.
e.g. rebecca says it's about young girls of victoria - about violence and isolation. and one of the final ~poignant lines is "it's mercy and mercy alone that transforms the human heart". i see what they were trying to go for, a look into the psychology of what could make someone do that terrible thing and then the psychology of what could make you come to terms with that and forgive.
BUT it ended up being a lot of focus on how sad it made rebecca and warren feel. and that focus just got more and more intense the further into the story - like, as more about the murder was revealed, it became more about rebecca, rather than the killers and, crucially, reena. just bizarre.
in an episode (can't remember which), rebecca says that she doesn't want to write only about reena because that would make it just a sad story. and.
well.
it IS a sad story.
#under the bridge 2024#this is from like a week ago but wanted to post#felt so extremely weird after watching this show. i didnt realise when i clicked on it that it was a true crime show#probably would have avoided it if so#with these things i always think. if u want to write about how nasty human beings can be. just make something up!#it usually turns out better anyhow. see: sharp objects and true detective#like. rebecca's arrested development and her identifying with warren was super interesting. just out of place. and imo inappropriate.#so make it up! that's clearly the story that you wanted to tell anyway.#i did like cam (lily gladstone's character) and thought the tension with her white police family was good shit. though not concluded well#and i was very interested with her link to seven oaks. but ultimately she (and rebecca) are not really who the show shouldve been about#i really went off in these tags. shush#myposts#rebecca godfrey#cam bentland#riley keough#lily gladstone#under the bridge

Good for her. This one's a still image that's easier to edit in case you need to say good for him or them or any other pronoun.

are you ever just hit with the fact that while you may be physically and legally an adult, for all intents and purposes, you are still a child
#i fear i may have arrested development of some t#kind bc i don’t feel like i aged past 17#and recent events have caused me to grow up like a LOT#and i’m making strides to change things and actually be an adult#as shit scary as that may be#gwen finally grows up at nearly 26 years old#some of that arrested development may be bc the first half of my twenties i was almost completely bed ridden and agoraphobic#(we don’t talk about 2020-22. also i don’t remember those years imao)#so i don’t feel i’ve gotten to experience proper adulthood#i’ve kinda just grasped at it from my bedroom but not actually lived it#but uhhh now i’m kinda starting to experience it#i am grieving#for my lost years#for the loss i am currently facing and all future losses#my teenage self#tho i carry her with me#maybe soon i won’t be crying in the middle of the night in my teenage bedroom#maybe i’ll be crying in the middle of the night in a whole new location#and that weirdly feels good#i’ll probably come back and scream about it later but idk i just feel curious to get to that point#i want the actual experience instead of daydreaming about it#even if it breaks my heart#even if i get unbearably homesick#i need to live!!!#and live i shall!!!#gwen rambles#gwenposting

I’m thinking about Wicked tonight, specifically why Elphaba ends up with Fiyero instead of Glinda in the musical despite Elphaba and Glinda having the more well-rounded relationship.
You could chalk it up to the writers wanting a heteronormative ending (and I’m certain that’s part of it) or the fact that Elphaba and Fiyero had a love affair in the book. But I think there’s a bit more nuance to it.
The whole point of Glinda’s character is that she upholds the status quo of Oz. No matter how much she loves Elphaba or sympathizes with the plight of the Animals, she will always align herself with the current system and those in power. And as long as that remains the case, a relationship between her and Elphaba is futile because Elphaba will not give up her cause.
Elphaba and Glinda represent to different ends of a spectrum. Elphaba resists the oppressive forces in Oz, while Glinda upholds them. But Fiyero is somewhere in the middle. He starts out privileged and carefree like Glinda, but quickly turns to Elphaba’s side. He does become Captain of the Guard, but only to find Elphaba and help her evade arrest.
And therein lies the difference between Glinda and Fiyero as love interests to Elphaba. Glinda would never sacrifice her title as “the Good Witch” and all her power granted from the Wizard, even if it meant helping Elphaba. Fiyero, on the other hand, does give up his privilege, his title, and even his human form for Elphaba. Glinda clings to what the status quo gives her, while Fiyero ultimately rejects it.
Yes, the writing around Elphaba and Fiyero’s romance is a bit rushed and doesn’t have the same gradual development that Elphaba and Glinda have. And yes, I have no doubt heteronormativity played a role in giving Elphaba a male love interest in the end. But I see a lot of people write off Fiyero and his relationship with Elphaba and I just don’t agree.
Why does Elphaba end up with Fiyero instead of Glinda? Because Fiyero makes the sacrifices that Glinda wasn’t willing to.
#also Elphaba and Fiyero are bi4bi to me#They’re not a straight couple#sorry if this an obvious take for me to make#But I had to get it out of my system#shut up elizabeth#Wicked#wicked 2024#wicked movie#wicked the musical#Elphaba#glinda#fiyero x elphaba#fiyero#wicked fiyero#ariana grande#cynthia erivo#jonathan bailey#wicked spoilers#fiyeraba#wicked meta

#oms listing#kimi wa shoujo#nanatsu fuji#mypost#l: kimi wa shoujo#l: f x f#l: lgbt#l: queer & ambqueer#l: queer character#l: ag#l: ag: yf x of#l: younger f#l: older f#l: dom f#personal score: 4#honestly.. pretty disturbing. and not in a good way#how do you write something like that without realizing what you're doing? 💀#i dont think you can just pass it off that realism as a fantasy when you mean to do a psychological character study#and i dont mean to be criptic. it's p much the ole trauma portrayed as love#me saying trauma so i don't say the R word. and yes the adult is classic pee e dee oh etc.. i dont use that word lightly. big ass predator#it's just not a lower score because the stream of psychological development of our protagonist is kinda exactly par for the course#after being r-worded by an adult#it's just a disturbing horrific portrayal of it because it doesn't address it seriously. it dresses up as love#so it's fundamentally incompatible with its premise#seeing her being in emotional arrested development as an adult... 💀 jesus christ#(im only not using the full words here because tumblr deadass hides my posts when there are words they don't like)

Just watched the S23 finale of SVU and I AM CHEWING GLASS OVER OLIVIA/BARBA HNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!
#MY TWO DIVORCEES WHO ENDED UP MARRIED AND THEN DIVORCED TO EACH OTHER#I SHIP THEM SO HARD NOW IT'S RIDICULOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!#“Yeah and you grew up without a father and I grew up being bullied so we're going to see [Stabler] through different prisms.”#FUCKING SCREAMING AT THAT BARBA! GOD I LOVE YOU SO MUCH!#See see see cause I love Alex/Olivia to death obviously#but they're the One True Love Affair; the One that Got Away#They're still fighting the same battle but with very different and conflicting tactics#because Olivia is extremely stereotypically paladin Lawful Good while Alex is so Chaotic she can't even see the law in the rearview mirror#(Arrested Development: Good for her)#The love is still there but they won't work out as a couple#BUT BARBA AND LIV COULD MAKE IT WORK STILL!#I TRULY BELIEVE THAT!#(I don't want to talk about Elliot as a romantic option because I hate it and because Kathy should still be alive)#(but even if we were going to talk about it Elliot and Liv are fighting VERY different battles now. They would never work.)
