it's immensely funny to me how andrew lloyd webber read this passage from the book and was like yeah the journey down to the phantom's lair is this really breathtaking magical gondola ride where christine is just captivated by the strange and fantastical beauty of it all (see below)
Tumblr media
when in the novel they're both like in a rowboat in the dark with christine scared out of her mind and confused as hell while erik is paddling like he's out for an extreme day of fishing and just staring christine down for the entire duration of the journey without blinking once . like mind you his eyes quite literally GLOW in the DARK and he's just fucking staring into her soul and silently rowing and probably not even breathing like

Ā  Ā "Why hello, my Dear," The Duke closed his book and looking up at her. "This is a surprise! What are you doing here? You never deliver your stock yourself." He smirked politely. It was true she never delivered herself. She always had some younger men who were strong enough to carry the crates themselves. But here she was, the dealer herself. Ā  Ā "Hello Duke," She said, leaning against his counter and looking up at him. "I had a little... falling out with some of my delivery boys. So I'm out making deliveries myself." she sighed with a polite smile while she poked some trinket on his stand. It spun around for a few seconds. "Anyways... How have you been?" She tilted her and looked back up at him. Ā  Ā "I've been doing well, thank you." he replied. "and business out here has been as lively as ever." He enjoyed her presence. It had been too long since they had spoken face to face like this. She was a fine tradesman. She was always polite and always knew how to strike a deal with him, which was nice since she was the one who provided him with most of his chemicals and first aid supplies from out of the village. She supplied him with mostly everything in his stock that's from outside the village. Ā  Ā Of course, she didn't have the most moral methods to obtaining her stock, but what did that matter to him or any of her other customers? She was very aware of the effect of her actions and trades on innocent people. Her means of obtaining her goods is questionable at best, but at least she got her work done. Ā  Ā While she talked about some new items she's come across and how she had come across them, the Duke had looked up for a second. He caught a glimpse of an older man wearing a trench coat and hat, smoking a cigar and leaning on a building, watching them from afar, a smile on his face. Duke frowned at the sight of one of the lords of the land, knowing he'd only cause trouble. Ā  Ā The Duke looked back at her again. "My dear, you should take care while in town. The people here take notice of outsiders easily," He leaned down as best he could to look her in the eye. "And there are some who love to cause trouble for others. I wouldn't stay in town too much longer." Of course, she didn't take offense to his warning. She knew these out-of-touch villages could be sketchy. She nodded and got back to business with him. As soon as they wrapped up, he said that he would send a couple of workers to unload the cargo and carry it to him. She nodded and wished him well before leaving. Ā  Ā After she returned to her cart, she just had to wait for the Duke's assistants to arrive to lug the goods back to his stall. Delivering to villages and sketchy places in the woods, she preferred a horse-drawn cart. It was slower, but it was more subtle in these small villages that relied on horsepower over motors. Of course, in the bigger and more modern places, she'd use a truck. But it made sense for this place. Plus the road to this village through the woods was almost impossible to take a vehicle through. Sitting in the driver's seat of her cart, she leaned back and crossing her legs. She pulled her hood and hat over her face, thinking of taking a nap while she waited. She had only closed her eyes for a second before she was bothered again. Ā  Ā "What have you got for sale?" A gruff, deep voice asked out of nowhere. She hadn't even heard him walk up. Ā  Ā "Nothing for you. I am no peddler." She said without looking up at the man who had taken interest in her cart. "If you're searching for something to buy, I suggest finding your way to the marketplace." She sighed and shuffled in her seat to turn away from him, indicating she was done talking to him. He chuckled lightly and the Duke's warning ran through her mind again. Ā  Ā She felt the cart rock as it took on new weight. He had climbed up on the cart and sat next to her, leaning close. "Oh come on now. Let me take a look." He said, in a low husky tone, tapping the ash off the end of his cigar over the side of the cart. The way he had said it made it sound suggestive and it made her furrow her brow in annoyance. Although it was hidden under the brim of her hat and hood, he could still sense how much he was beginning to annoy her. Ā  Ā "I don't have anything you'd want. Leave me be." She hissed, clearly annoyed with the man. She hadn't even taken a look at him, but she knew she hated the man already. Ā  Ā "Don't be like that Sweetheart," The stranger chuckled as he sat back and put his arm around her shoulder. The man took a long drag of his cigar before he leaned into her and blew the smoke directly at her. "There's always something I want... and I'm sure you have it." Ā  Ā The dry smell of the smoke had filled her nostrils. It was a mix of his old, cheap cigar and his bad breath. It disgusted her. Lifting her hand, she tilted her hat back up to give him the side-eye. She swiftly waved the smoke from his cigar out of the air. She finally had gotten a look at the man. He was an older man, indicated by his greyed hair and facial hair. His hat and glasses covered a good amount of his face, but she was able to see and take note of the many scars that littered his face. She could see his toothy smirk and frowned deeper before she turned to him. Her unpleasant expression made him chuckle a little. "There we go. Finally got another look at ya." Ā  Ā As she opened her mouth to retort, a pair of young men approached the cart. Her attention snapped to them, the man's focus still on her. "Sorry to interrupt, but The Duke sent us, Ma'am." Ā  Ā "Finally," she said under her breath as she stood up. "Of course. The crates are in the back of the cart here." She motioned behind her, to a cloth tarp that was covering her cargo. The two nodded and headed around to the back of her cart. She looked back at the man who helped himself at her side. "Get lost, old man" She scowled at him before hopping off the cart to follow the two to the back. She directed them to the crates they needed to take. They were almost done and she was leaning against the cart, crossing her arms when felt that unpleasant presence behind her. She snapped her head around to see that man who was too comfortable getting too close to her. He put one hand up to lean against the cart right behind her, watching the boys unload boxes for the Duke. Ā  Ā "What business do you have with Duke?" He asked, looking back at her. Ā  Ā She tightened her grip on her arms and frowned again. She was upset that he hadn't left. Only mustering a glowered expression up in his direction, she turned her attention back to the cargo being handled. She would try her best to ignore the stranger in hopes that he would just go away. Her business here was almost done. Next time she needed something delivered to Duke, she'd be sure to hire new delivery boys beforehand. Ā  Ā He chuckled at her scowl and took another drag of his cigar. He seemed to enjoy annoying her too much. Really enjoyed it. With a smirk on his face, he stepped right up so his body was just pressing against her backside. His large hand was placed on her lower back. "No need to be shy with me, Honey." His hand moved up her back and came around to sit on her hip. Ā  Ā Her eye twitched and she spun around, quickly lifting her leg and stomping down on his foot, purposely digging the heel of her shoe into his toes. He only stumbled back a step or two with a laugh. If it weren't for his steel-toed boots, he surely would have broken a toe. Ā  Ā "Do NOT touch me! You fucking pervert!" She scowled and backed away from him. The two unloading the crates stopped for a moment and looked over. Of course, they knew who the man was and they quickly went back to unloading, minding their business. Ā  Ā "Now, now..." He started and took a step towards her again. But as soon he was about to open his trap again, surely to try and coax her into something she wasn't interested in, bells began tolling in the distance. The ringing came from the large castle that loomed over the village. The man sighed in annoyance and dropped his cigar to the ground and stepped on it, snuffing it out with his boot. "Well... I'm late for a meeting. I'll be on my way..." He smirked again, looking back to her "I'll see you later." He tipped his hat to her and began to walk away. Ā  Ā She only continued to scowl at him as he left. "The only place I'll be seeing you is in Hell." She huffed under her breath before going up to the boys and told them to hurry up. She couldn't wait to leave this village. After they had finished taking the goods out of her cart, she was quick to ready her horses. Soon, she was trekking back down the path she came from, she was just out of the village and into the surrounding woods. She sighed and leaned back in her seat. Until she heard a loud growl. That's when things went to shit. Ā  Ā The horses were lying dead in the road, their throats slashed. Her cart was on its side, its wheel still spinning. Crates were broken open and supplies and chemicals spilled over the ground. She scuttled across the ground on her hands and knees, trying to get away from her cart. She was lucky the cart didn't land on her. Panic was setting in quickly. She could feel it in her blood and her bones. She quickly evaluated herself, making sure she had no large injuries. Ā  Ā The goopy sound of flesh ripping and blood gushing reached her eyes and she froze. She looked around for the source of the noise and her eyes landed on something that made her stop breathing for a moment. A man... Was it a man? It looked deformed and covered in fur. Its teeth ripped into the flesh of one of the horses, its maw covered in blood. It dripped from its sharp teeth. A whinnying made its long ears perk up before it looked over and away from her direction. Ā  Ā One of the horses was still alive and it was struggling. Poor beast. She wished it had died right away. Hoping the sound of the horse would distract the beast still, on her knees, she slowly and quietly backed up away from the scene. She jumped when a second beast hopped onto the cart from above. Where they up in the trees? The sound of the horse must have attracted it. She cupped her mouth to prevent herself from whimpering and closed her eyes. She couldn't bear to watch the gore. The second beast ripped into the horse. The sounds of the horse whinnying as its flesh was tearing. Then there was no more of the horse's cries, just the snarls of the beasts. Ā  Ā Looking back up, she met the eyes of one of the beasts. Its yellow eyes glowed as it growled and took a step off the horse and towards her. It felt like her heart stopped as she made the split-second decision to get up and sprint away as fast as she could into the woods. Her heart pounded so loudly in her ears, but she could still hear the growls and thrashing of the beasts chasing after her. Leaves crunched under feet as she ran. It was early autumn and the leaves had just begun to fall. The woods in this area were so beautiful. If only she had the time admire the view. Ā  Ā Coming across another path in the middle of the woods, she made a sharp turn to jump onto it, almost slipping as she did. Maybe she could find help or even make it back to the village. Her breathing began to burn in her throat and lungs. The sounds wheezing and worried sounds that came with each breath were embarrassing and showed just how much her stamina needed improving. Right now she was running on adrenaline and fear. Further down the path, she saw a few run-down houses. It was on the outskirts of the village. She felt a surge of energy and ran a little faster. Her eyes focused on an axe that was lodged into a chopping block outside one of the houses. Changing her trajectory, she headed to the chopping block. Taking the turn slowed her down a little, leaving room for the beast to come close to catching her. Ā  Ā Just as her hand reached the axe, a claw snatched at her back making her lose her balance and fall to the ground. Overshooting it, the beast slid past her fallen body by a little. She scurried to her knees, gripping the axe and lifting it just as the beast rounded back on her. She didn't even think about where the other beast was at this moment. Bringing the axe down, she was able to lodge it into its shoulder. A spurt of blood splattered over her as it growled in pain and backed off a little. Horrified, she watched as it took the handle of the axe and ripped it out of its own shoulder. It held up as if to swing on her. It could use weapons? It only looked like it was a feral beast... but it had the brain capacity to think and use tools? Struck with fear and confusion, she froze. When it was about to bring the weapon back down on her, a loud whistle from the woods caught both of their attentions. The beast froze its swing and its ears perked up at the sound. It looked to the forest line. Using that opening, she once again scrambled to her feet and ran. Ā  Ā She turned into a small gap between two of the houses, running to find the doors into one of the houses. She didn't care if she barged in on a family. Her life was in danger. Running to the first door she saw, she opened the door and ran inside. She turned to close the door, she froze. She saw four more of those beasts on the roofs of the houses she had passed, then two in the alley she had just come out of, including the one with the axe in its hand. She slammed the door and locked it. She spun around the room and didn't see anyone. Maybe they were out. But she spotted a dresser. Thinking fast on her feet, she went over and pushed it to the door. Luckily she was just strong enough to push it by herself. Ā  Ā Backing away from the door, she panted feeling just how exhausted she was. She quickly grabbed the first thing she found that could be used as a weapon, which happened to be a frying pan. After a short amount of time, there was a severe lack of banging and snarling outside the door. She felt a rumbling and looked around the room, noticing all the metal items were shaking and beginning to lift off the ground. She felt panic settle in her stomach as her situation grew more and more... supernatural. The pan flew out of her hands and she took a few more steps back. Ā  Ā "Here you are." Ā  Ā She spun around at the sound of a semi-familiar voice. She frowned at who stood across the room from her, in front of the door that was now busted down. How did he open it so easily? Ā  Ā "I didn't expect you to get this far." The man from before had almost appeared out of nowhere, blocking her from the entrance. A large metal hammer slung over his shoulder and a cigar in his other hand. The metal that had rumbled around the room now floated peacefully around the stranger. "Good Job." Ā  Ā "What's going on? Wh-what are those... those things?! A-and who are you!?" She asked accusingly. And how did he get past her little blockade? And why didn't those things attack him? Ā  Ā "Just as I thought, you're not from around these parts," He said, ending his sentence with a light chuckle. She furrowed her brow and took a step back as he took one forward. He took a drag of his cigar and sauntered closer to her. "This is gonna be fun." He smirked. Ā  Ā "What the fu--" Cut off by the frying pan she was previously holding hitting her over the head, she fell to the floor. She quickly faded into unconsciousness, the last thing she saw was his stupid smirk as he knelt next to her.

Ok I have finished The Way Of Kingsā€¦
It was AMAZING!! šŸ˜±ā¤ļø Flipping FANTASTIC!! ā¤ļøšŸ˜±
Donā€™t think I will be able to articulate into words how GLORIOUS this book was!
My thoughts: Spoiler free!
Brandon Sanderson is a master of creating incredible world building. It felt so unique and detailed; feeling as if you were there experiencing and seeing the places as if you were the characters yourself.
The plot was so engaging and interesting; how everything was tying together and making sense. All came perfectly together. Yet still left questions that will be explored in the next book, which Iā€™m definitely reading straight away, as I need to know what gonna happen and see the charactersā€™s explored more and developed even further!
Honestly, the amounts of twists and turns especially towards the end was incredible! šŸ˜±
The characters are amazing! They were all so well developed and interesting; I was rooting for every single one. Each one had me happy and sad for them. I love them all!! šŸ˜ (Apart from the betrayers šŸ˜  šŸ—”)
Kaladin, his story about his life and family had me in sobs; where I had to stop and wipe my face as I couldnā€™t see the words. šŸ˜šŸ˜ His determination and the will to not give up and how he cared for his bridgemen was so heartbreaking yet inspiring. ā¤ļøā¤ļø Bridge Four!! Love them all so much!! Also, syl, love her. She is adorable but also so caring and loyal. Loved how she helped Kaladin and was there for him to act as a friend and a constant in his life when he really needed her. Want to know more about her and see her develop into the being she is becoming.
Dalinar is such a interesting character and a good father; his POVs were so engaging, it had me feel really sorry for him, the things he was experiencing, feeling at times isolated and unsure of himself due to what is happening.
Adolin is so interesting and engaging, I loved all the scenes he was in. He is such a shameless flirt but also full of such care and loyalty to his father and his men. I loved his protectiveness towards his brother, how he stands up for him and looks out for him. Canā€™t wait for more of Adolin!
Renarin is really intriguing and I throughly enjoyed the scenes we had from him; I want to know more about him as he appears so sweet and innocent. Always there for his family and to lend out useful information without any judgment.
Shallan is really interesting and I really admired her determination and care for her family, her purpose to help them. Her witty sense of humour had me grinning like a Cheshire Cat, and I felt really sorry for her especially towards the end with certain people and what has apparently happened to her in the past to make her feel troubled and unsure. Found her really sweet but also, stubbornly determined in her cause. (I related to the stubbornness) šŸ’—
Jasnah is interesting and what she said about religion and morals, ethics etc had me really thinking and contemplating about views and about life in general. Found her to be charming in her own way and really want to find out more about her.
Navani is interesting and I want to know more about her past and how she will develop as a character.
All the side characters were amazing; from Wit šŸ˜, to all the Bridge Four members, Szeth, Elhokar. All were incredible and engaging, so exciting to learn more about them!
Tumblr media
So there are my thoughts. Basically me saying how much I LOVED this book! šŸ„°
Not sure if any of it made sense but in short it was a BEAUTIFUL INCREDIBLE book!!
Honestly, had me blown away by how engaging the plot and character were. The plot didnā€™t overshadow the characters and vice versa!
Despite being over a 1000 pages long it didnā€™t drag or feel slow; it felt so engaging and entertaining, that I wanted to keep reading to know more!
Well Iā€™m onto start Words Of Radiance. I NEED to know more about the plot and the characters! So no spoilers for the next book please, thank you!!
